It's hard for me to find anything but oak leaves locally, but my terrestrial isopods do really well on oak. What is it about oak that makes you recommend other hardwoods along with them? If it is either the tannins or the toughness, would cooking them briefly help? I'm very interested in putting my hand in to help the project along.

You mentioned that the green water will settle without the air flow keeping it in circulation; would this mean that I could take a sample of it and put it in a feeding dish for use as a concentrated algae dinner for tank inhabitants?

Just found your channel and I am stoked to see a fellow natural aquarist! 🙌 The goal for my tank is replicating a slow-moving, cold water stream habitat and it’s certainly an ever-changing, ever-growing project-I love it! Are you trying to replicate a specific habitat? Just discovered what is likely to be a few stentor colonies yesterday and I am excited to get them under the microscope. 🤓

This is an amazing video! I just found my first scud in my shrimp tank today and I was panicking, but now-I’ve changed my mind. I’m just more cognizant of how often I’m feeding my shrimp. And maybe not SO tedious with my plant trimmings. I love learning new things!!

my niche is finding which smaller cichlids are compatible with plants. i suggest pterophyllum, mesonauta, apistogramma, nannacara, many more genii are plant compatible. these will all predate on crustaceans and other micro-fauna in your aquarium(s). it's about finding balance in behavior as well as chemistry. fascinating.

Assimilating is an OK word to use in biology. Good video explaining this part of the food chain. Complexity in a system brings diversity, which we know is great for longevity.

I was pretty sad when my betta killed pretty much everything in her tank, although that's what theyt there for. I started a jar for seed shrimp, and another that will hopefully have isopods here in the next year.

I received my 1st order of iceopods from you. There in my 5 gal natural tank with 2 cherry shrimp,1 guppy, 2 small catfish, and some snails. I thing I’m going to take the fish out and put them in one of my other tanks, because I haven’t seen the iceopods since I put them in. I just ordered 2 bags of bugs from you. I’m going to put 1 bag in the 5 gal and 1 in a glass jar. ✌️

I need to start a culture of these when the ice goes out in the spring next year. I have scuds in several of my aquariums. Both regular and Vietnamese White Clouds seems to be avid scud eaters. I recently got some of each. I put the some of each species in a couple of tanks. When I first got the, the White Clouds ignored any food I put in the tanks for the first week. Haven't seen any scuds in either tank for several weeks, though there may be some stragglers hiding in the gravel.
