You are back!!! I am so excited. I have watched all your knitting video's tons of time and link them on FB all the time :)

Yes I am back. We had to replace our back porch and it took pretty much all summer to do so. Then momma Robin took her nest back this year but 2 different times and we wanted the babies to grow up and leave the nest. But I am now on catching up with my recordings. Berda

I am so happy to hear that, if you can at some point, get a bulky machine, then you will be all set for the different yarns, then a choice of which machine to use.

Glad to see that not only the 1 that wanted to see this, but many more. I know a few that do this on their standard machines. I did this on my sk360 with srp50 some years ago and it worked for me then, so in a pinch, one can use their standard machine as a bulky. Just be careful with the yarn as some yarns will not work well this way. Berda

Sorry for delay on responding, I was not contacted with comments and there were over a hundred from the summer that I didn't know were there. I think Google is doing things to where it is a bit harder for some of us. But I do want to get to all those that posted in the last 3 or 4 months.

Glad you also was able to use this way. I know many will get a standard machine and not knowing that when they want to use a thicker yarn, like worsted weight (8 or 10 ply in some countries), the bulky machine would be the way to go. But then I see those that try and sell them for outrageous prices. Those greedy people will pay for what they do eventually but you just wait and the bulky will come with a decent price. Berda

Yes, things are falling into place. My ex is just selfish and wanted everything we had. Well he found out by dragging his sorry butt, the law is good when it comes to selfish people.

I've done this on my LK150 with 12 ply and some tryout stuff on my 322 with 8 ply (DK) and wondering if you've tried to make the ribbing. I've tried but no success.
@RobertaRoseMeads7 жыл бұрын
I have yet to do that on my LK150 but it can be done. In the manual for this machine, it does show to use EON with thicker yarns. I did not try it myself, I do tend to get out my bulky when I need that for the Worsted Weight yarns (sure this is 10 ply in the UK) and I still have the Magic Knitter that will do the thicker yarns that the bulky machines will not. I did have another person try it with his standard double bed for rib and they got it to work. But then one yarn wasn't good for that. So I guess it is all up to the yarn one uses. Berda

Thanks for your video! Some machineknitters say this method would damage the needles although it is mentioned in both brother and silverreed operation manuals. What is your opinion, please? Thanks!
@RobertaRoseMeads7 жыл бұрын
And some state not to use WD40 but I have on different occasions plus a lady I know has only used that for some 40 years on her machines. Besides WD40 repels dust where some of the other lubricants do not. So if I couldn't get a machine preferred lubricant, I would be using WD40 on all my metal bed machines. Now some yarns are not good to use this way but in a pinch, this would be the way to go. But it is better to get a bulky machine as the needles are more suitable for the thicker yarns. Berda

Hi Roberta! I have a question. So if you were to do just standard 'stockinette' (like no color changes or punch cards or patterns or anything) - will it still look like mock rib? Does it always look like mock rib whenever you skip a needle? Finally, if it is always mock rib whenever you skip a needle, is it possible to still have a stockinette look to it? Thank you so much for this wonderful video.
@RobertaRoseMeads2 жыл бұрын
Yes it will, but when your done with the EON and #4 yarn, after it is off the machine, then pull the fabric from top to bottom and then left to right, it will help set the stitches normal.

How do you cast on with bulky yarn on this machine? I am having trouble. Also, is there a way to cast on with a finished (nonraveling) edge?
@RobertaRoseMeads3 жыл бұрын
I do prefer to use a cast on comb, the singer type machines do not come with one, but you can get them on eBay. Or you can use the ribber comb on the knitter only starting out with WY. kzbin.info/www/bejne/onrCZ4aFg7mVmNk

Hi Berta, what is the number of the card? Do you keep the card not moving? Thank you
@RobertaRoseMeads7 жыл бұрын
See even I forget to make things a little clearer. The #1 card for pretty much most punch card machines, at least the ones I have used is: Every Other Hole punched on one row, then the next row it is the opposite EON that is punched.

I don’t quite understand how to get a 12 card? How does that work for a bulky pattern?
@RobertaRoseMeads4 жыл бұрын
So you will have to punch a card to use as a 12 st pattern. Here is my video on how to punch it, but then remember when you look at the number strip, you have to start with the right most needle for that section. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJ_akn6Xgr2GgKM

can I apply this principle to a 4.5 mm kh820 machine? I have too many worsted weight and many chunky that I am now unable to use because I bought a 4.5mm machine. Why did I? That's another story. I didn't know the difference between bidding and offering on EBay, so I had to pay for the purchase. I am still hoping that they allow me to cancel the order. I'm trying!!
@RobertaRoseMeads7 жыл бұрын
You should have no problem using your standard as a bulky this way, this is how many did before the bulky machines were available. I would and did use the newer slippery yarn that will work easier but some WW yarns may be a problem. We live and learn, if you had found my contact me via my web pages, I would have answered you much faster. Now if that seller if an honest person, I am sure they will allow the cancel but hope you did mention that the 2 carriages were not there and that machine would be useless to you or whomever got it. Well unless someone has those carriage someplace to make it whole. Also that machine I would think needs a deep clean, take everything off it to sand and then paint up the inside of the cover and case is needed to make her whole again. Berda

Thanks for viewing my videos and very happy to hear that they do help you. It is comments or emails I get like this that keeps me going. I get to a point where I think there isn't anything else to record but then someone asks me to show something or I find a new technique or a way of doing things that I have to continue recording. I know that The Almighty has blessed me with people like you that I get to help but also to where I can record something new or help in another way. Keep on knitting and if you have any questions, I am always here. Berda

i have an 8 hole card brother kh800 i think. what holes to you have punched?
@RobertaRoseMeads7 жыл бұрын
I do mean to get out my 710 to show that, but you would of course use EON to make that work out as a bulky machine and then press every 4th button to work up the Mock 1X1 Rib. The good thing with the Brother type machines or more so with the button machines, you can press the buttons and then move your handle to see if you have the right buttons. If not, then move the selector over 1 or press the next buttons is all. I would just move the selector out. Hope you and others understand that.
@jesebsp7 жыл бұрын
would I just press the tuck button going left leaving all the other levers and such to regular knitting?
@RobertaRoseMeads7 жыл бұрын
If you are doing Tuck one way. But if your using this machine as if it were a bulky, then all you need to do is move that lever (sorry but I forget the name of it) that moves the marker from 1 to 2. I do plan on getting my 710 out to show that but also to work out a lace pattern also. I just need to finish up with my bulky first with Christmas presents. I hate to be late with them but if I can get them done by the end of this month, I still have time to mail them out. Berda
