I did CCA in Phoenix and was at station North West. We had 61 mail routs and I started at 61, then after my 8 hours I’d had to go help other career carriers with there route. Call for a very long day. Never really knew my day off because at that time we did Amazon Sundays. So I only had 1 day off. Had 3 bosses, and everyone said something different and had one following you on your route. Broke down twice and was attack 3 times by dogs. We had to scrounge for a uniform until your clothing allowance came thru. I did a hop-n- stop which covers over 12 miles on this route. All of this I did in the summer heat but no ones tells you about bathroom break and were to take the. Most circle k don’t allow you to use there bathrooms. You’re given an orange time card which you slide it every time you come back to the station. To become career it would take 3 years of this, oh and COD had to be the exact amount. Worst job I ever had and worst people I ever knew. You can’t call in sick or they would let you go. My first day I was given a warning because I was late getting back to the station, union Stuart was there and said nothing. I lasted almost a year and called it quits because I’ve been asking for two days off four months in advance and didn’t get it. Money was good and that’s why I stayed but I just wasn’t worth it. I had no set route, didn’t know when my days off would be, could plan anything with family, and the heat on the road, truck were just to much. Some. People that became RCA are still there and enjoy it. Now I own a motorcycle shop and I love it. Happy you enjoy your job, just telling you what I went thru and suffered thru 117* heat every day for 5 months or more.
