I love that "shoot your own match". The higher level guys are quite a bit faster than me, though that gap is closing. But put some long range, tuxedos, with no shoots in front of me...and I'm taking your lunch money. I've only been at this a year so there's definitely room for growth.

Thank you for sharing!, I recently was forced to take a break from my shooting and it has given me the time for reflection! Your mentality is where I am at and it feels good knowing there are others out there struggling like us! Thank you again and may your life give you your hearts desires! Safe shooting!

I'm 48 yr old male and shot my first match. This is a new sport for me and I'm super competitive but this seems more chill. I have learned it's more about being yourself and having fun but safe at the same time. I want to be as fast as everyone else but I always come back on may of these guys have been doing this for the last 10+ years. Trying to slow down is the hard part for me.

This is an awesome video. I've been out of USPSA for a few years due to "one of those people". These are great reminders for me going forward. Thanks for this.

Thank you for for making us thing of things differently. These are things that will save others time, money, and tons of stress. Great video.

I started primarily to get better at defensive shooting. For me, competing is high level practice. I am shooting, have shot, beginner’s league to learn “the game.” If you aren’t having fun, why do it?

I’ve been shooting competition for 10 years. I’m on my 6th pistol and 2nd PCC!

Felt. I would still consider myself one of the younger guys but there are still many people my age or younger in a different tax bracket who can blow me out of the water because they can afford to live, eat, and breathe shooting every week. By definitely focusing on yourself and making friends with the ones who are there for the right/same reasons, it keeps the sport fun.

For number 1, definitely agree for the most part. One little caveat I'd add though is that you should put thought into your gear beyond just the gun, or even the belt, holster, and mag pouches. Sometimes its stuff that isn't even shooting specific. The biggest "game changers" I've had in terms of gear weren't from getting a "nicer" gun or a race holster... it was suspenders and knee pads. I hated the feeling of my belt starting sag, and at long matches I'd be readjusting everything a few times so it felt secure - suspenders eliminated that and I actually shot better just because I wasn't feeling paranoid about my belt falling off in the middle of a stage. And knee pads let me drop down to a knee much more aggressively, especially for indoor matches where slamming down onto a concrete floor isn't going to be pleasant. I'm not saying go out and buy suspenders and knee pads yourself. But it can be helpful to think about your experiences while shooting matches, and think openly about what kinds of problems you've run into that you might be able to address. The examples I gave were to deal with things I experienced that I was finding annoying. You might have other issues. Maybe you hate dealing with the sun while shooting outside, and shaded eye-protection would help. Maybe you've slipped on grass a few times but you're wearing tennis shoes and would benefit from getting some trail runners. These are just hypothetical examples. It doesn't even necessarily have to entail buying more stuff, maybe you can address these problems by changing behavior rather than buying gear.

Maybe I've just been lucky so far. I'm new to competition, but in the 7 matches I've been to. No one has been an ass. In fact everyone has been pretty helpful, and welcoming.

LOL! A black cat that acts like a dog? Clearly some flavor of a Bombay. Hands down, best cat in the world, IMO. Regardless, if some kind of Bombay picked you, you really have no choice in the matter anyway. Nice video too. That was very helpful to hear about your experience!
