I have got to say, the music at the very beginning is the best Star Trek music I have ever head... it follows the fine tradition that all of the feature films offered, all the way back to TMP. The beginning battle scene is excellent, and even the shots of the space station which looks like Jupiter station from Voyager, it’s great to see yet another Federation bar populated by races of humanoids that we have seen, including those guys from “let that be your last battlefield“ from TOS. I had seen small sections of clips from the show but I didn’t realize it was connected to hidden frontier. Excellent. Actually this is quite interesting, I see what people are talking about with the green screen not really being synchronized to the background. It’s kind of distracting, but I am halfway through this movie, and as far as the story goes I like what is being told. I love that a sword came straight out of a shape shifter and speared the captain of that one ship ha ha. And that it was the captain of the Excelsior ha ha Ha. All of the CGI for the shots in outer space are done very well, I understand this was all lightwave? when I think about the state of computer technology in 1998, it’s frankly amazing that these movies were able to be made because I was familiar with the technology back then, it was very difficult to work with. I used to deliver software to an animator that worked third party up the freeway from me, he had a large array of G5’s and G4’s, and one Windows 95 PC for one format that only worked on that platform. he had been adding scenes to movies like “the perfect storm” and whatever else was released that year. They would hire this guy when they needed something that the main effects house didn’t provide. And with the state of computer technology, we could not even watch the videos he had created on any of his machines because the resolution was too high. Of course today we would be able to watch it on most PCs that have a good video card. But back then, he would create an animation that he couldn’t even watch. It was all Avid codec. It’s funny because I do home recording and my A to D converter is an old Digidesign Digi-001, and the version of Pro Tools that it uses can only work on windows XP, so I set up an old Core Duo machine. It can’t utilize more than 2gb of Ram, but that’s what the Digi hardware requires. I have a limited function for editing audio for MOV files, but I’ve never used it. It makes me appreciate these old fan films more, knowing the difficulty in using those old systems.

CGI was good but the green screen was not very good. I have seen several videos using green screen in that time area that were excelent. Looks like the producer or producers skipped corners produceing this video. Still I enjoyed the video.

The 'green screen' effects are a bit too noticeable but acceptable considering when it was originally done (nowadays it would be considered awful). // There is a bit of 'over acting' and 'tap weirdly on the control panels' from some of the actors - maybe, in future episodes, they'll relax and seem more natural. // Love the warning on the weapon- 'Warning CGI budget empty' - lol. Also, love the security (are they the 'marines?) - these black shirts are better than the red shirts on TOS.

Why does everyone in the 24th century decorate their homes in late 20th / early 21st century style complete with genuine 20th century antiques? J/K Seriously though I never cease to be impressed by HF's work.
