My pop who just passed at age 97 on 8/26 was the radio and sonar man on the Bergall. I came very close to never existing. I was an artillery crewman in Vietnam and dud rounds did happened but not often. I probably owe my existence to a 10 year old girls mistake on a Japanese fuse assembly line.

All I remember is the Admiral at the end saying we'll be back in a minute with our special guest (s). I was 6 or so in the 60's. Nothing on the idiot box compares to series like this today. (2021). Thanks for the uploads. Those boys were hero's, thanks guys.

I wish the current generation had the guts and balls of the old generation that these stories are about.

To my dad who served on her in '45 and '46. Wish I asked more questions. When we were feeling ill about the gills, he's always offer up some fried bacon. Something about tradition...

Me too! Mom's Go to! Was a "BLT" all her family, and Dad's served in both wars, I still do "BLT's" as a recovery, or guilty treat.

In the Bible many times the Lord would discomfort the enemy to fight themselves in confusion. This war was before my time but I've heard that many Americans constantly prayed for their loved ones in the military. And of course the military in general.

Incredibly well produced series. I was a child at this time. World War II is part of my history. So is Vietnam. ☮

I always have sympathy for those "special guests" as many obviously aren't too comfortable being on camera. Being in front of a retired Admiral and knowing this was going on TV must have been like, "Don't screw this up, don't screw this up..."

How many crew did they say ? I listened twice. Didn't quite make it out. Sounded like a good bit more than I thought was on a sub.
@amadeusamwater3 жыл бұрын
Some of the bigger subs had 90 to 100 crew on board. Bergall's normal complement is listed as 80 men.
