USS Constellation tour - Baltimore Inner Harbor - Historic Ships

USS Constellation is a sloop-of-war, the last sail-only warship designed and built by the United States Navy. She was built at the Gosport Shipyard between 1853 and 1855 and was named for the earlier frigate of the same name that had been broken up in 1853. The sloop's primary armament was 8-inch (203 mm) shell-firing guns and four 32-pounder long guns, though she carried other guns as well, including two Parrott rifle chase guns. Constellation's career as a front-line unit was relatively short; after entering service in 1855, she served with the Mediterranean Squadron until 1858, and in 1859, she was assigned as the flagship of the Africa Squadron, where she served with the African Slave Trade Patrol. During the American Civil War from 1861 to 1865, the ship returned to the Mediterranean to patrol for Confederate vessels. In late 1864, she returned to the United States to be decommissioned, as most of her crews' enlistments had expired. She spent the rest of the war out of service.

Was there in 2014. Spent almost 2 hours touring her decks. The USS Constellation is a national treasure.

I remember going on this ship with my parents when we lived in Maryland. The USS Constellation, the Natural History Museum, and Baltimore Aquarium were places I went to once as a child and never forgot about them. I especially want to take my husband on the ship since I think he'll like it. I was born in Baltimore Maryland and live there till I was 11 when we moved. And some days I worry for whats going on in Maryland. But it'll always be the place I call home. And as a kid I used to call it beautiful. I hope I can one day again.

There is a beautiful hotel right on the Harbor I booked a suit for Valentines one year , my husband & I went and saw a car show & bridal show. At the time I sold cars & MaryKay & hubs sold houses so the two shows we were able to network a lot. Friday night we saw a show ,Sat car & bridal shows, a band played in the hotel various floors had different music venues. Sunday we saw the aquarium it was great .

I was on this ship 30 plus yrs ago as a young man. Hope I get the chance to return very soon .. She is a lady , beautiful. And I hope she gets out to sail

unfortunately she will never sail needs a complete overhaul and the politicians will never have the funds for that

Love this ship but am disappointed that the cannons on the ship now are made of plastic. Our government had them melted at the scrap yard!

Agreed! It would have been better if they would have kept the cannon.
