This is my favourite class of modern destroyer, and will be building the Flight IIA USS Bainbridge DDG-96 in this scale, in respect for her rescuing Captain Richard Phillips, from Somali pirates back in 2009. I also own two great reference books in assisting my build, Warship Pictorial series from Classic Warships, and Squadron/Signals book. Though, this does not show the physical build, this just helps fuel my desire to complete my version. Thank you for providing the world with your great talent. Take care, and all the best.

Thank you very much! quality wise, it's not 100% flawless but not far off, all panel lines well scribed, hardly any flash. If you shop around, you should be able to get it at a very good price.

Just ordered this model, it will be my first since I was a kid. I wanted to clarify your steps: Paint, Gloss, Decals, Gloss, Weather, Final Varnish is that correct? Can that process be achieved with brushes? Thanks!

Hi Michael, yes, the order is spot on! You can paint with brushes of course but would suggest a rattle can varnish - it will make things so much easier for you! Best of luck with it!

What's a good entry point into ship building? I have plenty of airplane and tank building experience but ships are new to me.

Brennnan Bauer A good first step is to consider which scale you want to build your model in. Ships come in 1/350 like this one, or 1/700. Not all ships, but as a general rule of thumb. I'd say either this Hopper kit or maybe the Oliver Hazard Perry would be a good place to start. Is there one kit you've got your eye on?

There's always the Ticonderoga class cruisers - a little larger, less fiddly? Or a trimaran hulled Coronado?

I can't quite remember all the colours I'm afraid, built this a few years ago now but remember that the hull colour is Tamiya sky grey

Hello jj im going to order this kit and I would just like to know the paint that you have used thank you and do you have to paint the hull?

Good choice Sir! I used two main colours for the main hull, Tamiya Sky Grey and a medium grey for the decks. As a waterline kit you don't even have to attach the lower hull, but if you do, it needs painting. I used 70% flat red and 30% flat brown on the Hopper

David Hliva It will be very hard finding prebuilt model kits unless you get lucky on eBay. I believe there is a range of die cast ships available though with limited ship choice
