What a sad end to such a majestic ship what impressed me was the amount of anti aircraft batteries she had on board once again a well done video that I enjoy very much

You said, "1.1 millimeter quad mounts." I believe you meant to say, "1.1 inch quad mounts." Otherwise know as "Chicago Pianos."

As we said in the Navy, and I say it to the crew and to the USS Pennsylvania's history: Well done. ☮

I wonder if the screw Pennsylvania lost while en route to Bremerton could be located and recovered. Since it is solid bronze the prop could be intact. On display ashore, it would make a fine memorial to that ship and the other "standard battleships" that gave such good service to the United States and the Allies by providing gunfire support to ground forces and escorting convoys through dangerous waters. They didn't get much glory after Pearl Harbor, but we could not have won the war in 1945 without them and the millions who survived that horror might have died young in 1946.

That would be far harder than finding a needle in a haystack. A better option would be to find the ship's actual resting place.

My brother's first ship was the USS Richond K Turner, a missile crusier. Sadly, its now a reef off the coast of Florida.

Sad ending to a fine ship. Still survived both A bombs though. Good on her. Just wish she'd not been contaminated. 😢

I have always thought it a terrible shame that the state of Pennsylvania didn't request the Uss Pennsylvania as a war memorial ship before she could be used in the atomic bomb testing. She would be the only survivor of the U.S. "standard battleships" if she were around as a museum and war memorial today, as Texas is the only "Dreadnougt type" left.

One ship that should have been saved to be a museum ship, since she was the Arizona's sister.

She didn't look like the Arizona when she was decommissioned, and she was radiologically hot.

And how did the crew that boarded the ship after the first atomic test make out? Poor bastards.

There are WWII submarines that carry 24 torpedoes. You're telling me a battleship could only carry 24 torpedoes?
@robertyoung39925 ай бұрын
Battleships carried zero torpedoes
@lennyhendricks46285 ай бұрын
@@robertyoung3992 - you may be right but the video says at 2:10 that she had two 21" underwater torpedo tubes and carried 24 torpedoes -- and it shows pics of them at 2:14.
@jeboblak58293 ай бұрын
They could have carried more than 24, but 24 is what they carried. Additional Torps mean fewer shells. Battleship torpedoes was a bad idea that was largely eliminated in the inter-war period. .
