I’ve been making drinking horns for years now and I used to do this type of long and involved cleaning process before I discovered that it’s all unnecessary. All you have to do is melt some bees wax, pour it into the horn and roll the horn around to line the inside with the wax, and pour out any excess wax 🤷🏼‍♂️ (after it’s been washed with soapy water to clean it.) It’s quick, easy, effective and it’s actually how it was done traditionally in the old days. It works great 👍🏻

@@melissae3337 yes. you fill the horn with wax, slosh it around, then empty the wax out while it's still runny. leave the remaining wax to coat the inside of the horn and harden.

@@fatihalpay4903 it depends on what you think is hot I suppose. Something like coffee is typically around 165°F but Beeswax melts at 145°F. So I wouldn’t do much more than warm otherwise you run the risk of melting the wax (which is still totally safe to drink even if you did melt it into the drink, you’ll just have to re-coat it)

When doing production for drinking horns we soaked in a bleach water solution and scrubbed them out. After the bleach we would soak in clean water. Soaks were usually 2-3 days each. Sometimes 2 rounds with clean water to remove the bleach smell. Bleach will kill off any bacteria and remove any meaty bits left in the horn. It never seemed to discolor the horn or weaken it either.

Oh, the horns have no smell at all. I ended up mixing soap with a lot of baking soda, and then rinsed it off with Odoban. The skull, however, apparently DOES (according to my mom because I kinda have a bad sense of smell) so now I'm just going back to that lol

I bought a set of norse viking hand crafted serving bowls. They smell like sulfur. I'm soaking them in water, soap, vinegar, and baking soda. Been a few hrs, Smell still there, real strong. I didn't realize they were 100% bone. Realized after I went back to description. They are beautifully made. I am going to try and soak them for a few days, leave outside in sun for a bit. If fails, will repeat, and add peroxide. Thanks for tips.

Thank you for this. we've been fighting with those sheaths stink now. You and I spoke with a while ago. That we had issues getting off. We found out that someone used glue to attach them before they were properly cleaned.

To replicate this method you will need: ¹Bucket/bin (large enough to fit your entire horn inside) ²Soap ³Water ⁴Baking Soda ⁵Mixing Bowl (or similar container) ⁶whisk (or similar mixing tool) ⁷Scrub brush w/flexible handle (long enough to reach the length of your horn ⁸TIME (72+ hrs) Step 1- Soak A. Pour a bin/bucket with enough water to fully submerge in soapy water B. Place horns in the water C. Let sit 12-24 hr Step 2 - Clean A. Remove from soak B. Scrub out the inside C. Rinse D. repeat B&C til clean (no membrane visible or in rinse) E. Let horn dry Step 3 - Deodorize A. Make a baking soda water mix (pourable paste consistency) B. Pour mixure into the horn C. Coat the entire inside of horn D. Let sit 24 - 48hrs E. Rinse F. Let dry. G. Perform sniff test. H. Repeat C-G until desired odorlessness is reached. Note: adding a 12-24hr 3% hydrogen peroxide inner soak can help

After I cooked horns for half a day - outside of a house and as far as I could - I threw that stuff from inside horns in bushes, where wild animals with weird taste already gathered. Then I put each horn on its big, healthy anthill, standing proudly in full sunshine. Ants runned outside so cheerfully! Next day horns were perfectly clean, smelling only on sun, grass & wind. It was more then 10 years ago and horns are perfectly clean and smell nice. No soap, no chemicals, no water to clean them (except 1st cooking).

I have also been told you can use sand and water (shake until arms almost fall off) and and then let it sit with cola for 24 hours. Haven't tried it yet. Good to know there are other options!

Sand and water will act as sandpaper in the inside, there's no real cleaning involved, you'll still have to use something to kill the bacteria.

Hey Hunter, I do have one question about the peroxide. Does the peroxide bleach the horn at all? Or just make sure it doesn't run over to the outside of the horn sheath?

Yes you are on the right track, if you let it sit on the outside long it would whiten it.

Step one will eliminate most of the odor. That twenty four hours soak with soapy water/peroxide and then scrubbing it out... The biggest challenge to that is being able to scrub the smallest part of a long sheath. It really is the membrane for the most part producing that smell so being able to scrub that out of the smallest part of the horn Is the biggest challenge but probably most important. So now I am challenged with trying to find a way to get at that part of the horn with a scrubber. I'm thinking I'm going to lace an old wire hanger with green Scrubpad material.

Hypochlorite mix25 to 1 ,soak for 12 hours, rinse thoroughly then Borax solution for 12 hours is best way I've found.

The Best thing to do, is after removing the insides. Put it in a big Ant 🐜 Bed 🛌. This allow the pheromone of the ants replace the stitch that was caused by the flesh of the Ram. This the natural way that they did it in Israel 🇮🇱. Thanks.

Supaya manusia itu menjadi makhluk yang hidup. Tertulis di Kitab Kej 2:7. Kejadian 2:7 (IMB) Dan YAHWEH Elohim, membentuk manusia dari debu tanah, lalu Dia mengembuskan napas kehidupan ke dalam lubang hidungnya, dan manusia itu menjadi makhluk hidup. ketika itulah TUHAN Allah membentuk manusia itu dari debu tanah dan menghembuskan nafas hidup ke dalam hidungnya; demikianlah manusia itu menjadi makhluk yang hidup. KEJADIAN 2:7(tb). Akan tetapi di PERJANJIAN BARU Tuhan Yesus mengembuskan Nafas ke manusia itu supaya setiap manusia menerima ROH KUDUS. Yohanes 20:22 (IMB) Dan setelah mengatakan hal itu, Dia meniupkan NAPAS kepada mereka dan berkata, "Terimalah Roh Kudus! YOHANES 20:22(tb). Dan sesudah berkata demikian, Ia mengembusi mereka dan berkata: "Terimalah Roh Kudus. Ada 2 ayat firman TUHAN yg menulis tentang TUHAN meniup SANGKAKALA/SHOFAR: A. 1 TESALONIKA 4:16(tb). SHEVARIM. utk mendeklarasikan keinginan Tuhan utk menerobos batas2 & menghancurkan setiap perlawanan yg tdk sesuai dgn kehendak Tuhan. 3.THERUAH -sebuah alarm atau suara yg mengejutkan,digunakan utk Mengumumkan secara tajam kedatangan BAPA YHWH di tempat itu. 4.THEK GDOLAH -mendeklarasikan kepenuhan & keseluruhan perpanjangan dari kemuliaan Tuhan & kekuasaannya. Suatu kemenangan terjadi. Gbu
