Let's take a moment to appreciate Eric in this practice match. It isn't easy trying to not embarrass himself and of course not embarrass our star, Winston.

This video is the best example of levels as you’ll ever see. Winston is a really good 4.5 player, but watch Eric’s body language during the points. He’s totally untroubled, no stress, smooth and easy footwork. Then Karue comes in with such a heavy and penetrating ball that all Eric’s comfort and confidence is gone. It’s just crazy how the levels go up and up.
@grimson Жыл бұрын
@@WinstonDu And you did! What amazed me is that you hit a really good ball that would have excellent club players in all kinds of trouble. But Eric is a different level & then Karue’s level is just another planet!

Exactly. Man, this game is in levels and when you watch Karue hit with Giron you see they are stepping it up another level. Thanks Winston and Karue for this content.

@bkatbamna Жыл бұрын
Looked like Eric was going at about 50% there. Great match to see. It is difficult to realize on video how high an ATP pro's level really is because they are playing against another ATP pro. Watching Karue hit against even a good player shows the contrast.
@dustyroot4708 Жыл бұрын
Kudos to Eric for holding back for the benefit of this lesson. You could tell he was going about 50% and he was still doing well against Winston, who is no slouch. This video had some great examples of the difference between a 15, 11-13, and an 8 UTR. Always room for improvement.

That was insane watching Eric cruise the first couple games and then Karue came in and just pieces him up for two points. I thought Eric wasn’t going to get manhandled that much, man Karue is good
@chubun6631 Жыл бұрын
If you comparing Karue's serving motion with Winston's, it does not appear to be that much faster if at all, but somehow the ball just has so much more pop on it.
@MrFunkyko Жыл бұрын
@@chubun6631 That's what I'm saying, if you watch all three play by only seeing their court side with no result shot, you would think they all would be around the same level because they've all got nice form and great strokes to watch, but damn the ball that comes out with less effort from Eric and Karue is wild

This is great stuff watching Karue coach a pretty good player with some deeply ingrained habits! Probably won't be easy, but Winston hitting balls while falling back has been pretty noticeable in your videos, especially on your forehand. I think a lot of 3.5 to 4.5 players have this same issue and it's one of the visual cues that distinguishes a higher level player. Thanks to both of you!

Man what great rallies once Karue was able to motivate you the correct way. For some reason when I watch his videos his teaching isn't as impactful as when I see him giving you pointers and seeing it improve your game makes it pretty darn good. Also it's crazy to see how us Normal players (I used to be a 4.5, at times I can play at that level but definitely more of a 4.0 or less player now) play against a D1 player... get outclassed but then see a player like Karue step in and you gain a huge difference in perspective on how far apart a former pro player is to a D1 (and a 4.5 player). I hope we can see more videos like this! Love the 3 way collab, man I doubt I can ever get to Karues level but somewhere between where I'm at and Eric's level is amazing. Also Winston you've definitely improved significantly from when I first saw your videos, keep it up man! Also we miss Lotti 😉

The collabs are insane! Love it! I like Karue’s style of coaching. His feedback is very simple and easy to apply. More big picture focused rather than tiny detail fixes (which there are an endless amount of in tennis lol). Winston you may as well make a run for an atp point at this rate 😂

I just started tennis this year, but I have destroyed my opponents in district and school tournaments, and now am getting serious about tennis, and my coach says I can go varsity as a freshman!
@johnnyblackrants7625 Жыл бұрын
One thing I think Karue should mention - the degree of difficulty of the shots he wants you to attempt is MUCH MUCH higher than the degree of difficulty of standing back and letting the ball drop. Seeing the ball clearly is harder, spacing it is harder, and timing it is harder. Everybody misses a ton when they start trying to attack, because offensive tennis is a lot more difficult than neutral tennis. Eventually, the attacking forehands will become close to as high percentage as your current forehand, but only after a lot of practice. If you needed to win a match *today*, you probably shouldn't do it, although, long term, it's clearly going to make you better.

@WinstonDu this guy used to be a UTR 13 and you're more like an 8 and you held two solid games against him with a (relatively) poor serve. Incredible progress! Normally when the UTR gap is that big you'd expect a 6-0 thrashing, and you would have almost guaranteed that if you played your regular game where you just stay back - you'd have nothing to trouble him. Your rally forehand is good but its not going to trouble a player of that caliber. Awesome progress, loving this series and jealous Karue is not coaching me!

What I notice is that Eric had plenty of time against Winston's ball and took many balls on the rise taking time away from Winston. That's why Winston was always on his heels and difficult to take control of the point. And it's simply amazing to watch Karue play a few points and it's all too obvious his shots are faster and heavier.

I'd be interested to know Karue's thoughts on Eric's footwork. From my chair, it looked like Eric had plenty of time to setup for each groundstroke in the longer baseline rallies. Is this just because his footwork is really solid, or because Winston wasn't hitting at a pace that Eric found troubling? It can be hard to tell how fast both players were hitting from video compared to in-person.

Higher level players also anticipate very well, so it always seems like they are in position. I saw Serena play some years ago, and it looked like she was barely moving. But it was really because she anticipated so well, it was crazy. I also think Eric is used to seeing harder shots than Winston’s too.
