Many thanks to Renukaji for capturing this. Many thanks to Carstenji for uploading. I think these were simpler times. To eat, rest and begin to practice. Now we are bombarded with email notifications and djs making a racket during weddings.

I already have wrote too much in the chat I am so excited about this documentary and precisely 10 years after this magnificent musician went into eternity This is no coincidence for us lovers of Hindustani Sangeet this is an unexpected beautiful gift Thanks to Srimati Renuka George for her effort in presenting this

It made my day to see it when the man in the audience pointed to Ustadji on the sam and Ustadji looked back at him and was smiling. And everyone was so happy. A wonderful moment.

The film medium is a blessing today as it allows us to capture great, pure souls like Ustadji. Their existence, their thinking about music, their love for their instrument, their sincere Sadhana, and the wisdom that they received from its formless, yet ever-sacred gifts shall always be worshiped by small listeners, students, and melody seekers such as ourselves. I always feel that documentaries like these, made with a student's love for the art, really exude a certain power that my eyes end up welling with tears by the end. The last interview with Ustad Sayeeduddin Dagar, the documentary made by Pandit Shantanu Bhattacharyya on the lives and music of Pandit Prasun & Vidushi Meera Banerjee, Kaushiki's documentary on Guru Jnanprakash Ghosh, and now the one posted here on Ustad Asad Ali Khan are all like temples within which we can get a glimpse of these humble Gurus and human beings. These documentaries will always be our little treasures, keys to inspiration. Never take this down! Thank you Carsten Bhaiya for your offering to us. 🙏🙏🙏

Well, like the eternal temple is always to be found inside ourselves, we also carry the pearls of memory of the masters inside our hearts. But of course these living memories in form of audio and video are as well real gems in the treasure trove of music.

The sitting posture he teaches is interesting. I have heard it said that formerly some players of the surbahar also sat in this fashion and that it is one of the authentic and original postures for that instrument (probably in imitation of the been), but one does not see it in contemporary surbahar peformers as far as I know; almost all of them were mostly also trained as sitarists. This same posture is also occasionally recommended for the sitar, but again I have not seen contemporary performers adopt this posture. Of course there are a variety of postures used with the been, too, but I wonder if any other gharana maintains the posture taught by Ustad Asan Ali Khan Sahab. It is similar to a typical seated posture in Japan.
@RudraVeenaАй бұрын
Vajrasana is the authentic sitting and playing posture for the traditional playing of the Been. Beside energetic effects it allows a natural straight upper body that beneficial for the control of the breath and with it on the sure of the instrument. It was used be other musicians as well, vocalist and instrumentalists. Today most people have physical restrictions that let them shift to Sukh Asana, which certainly is more comfortable, but also lesser effective in the control of the body and instrument.

Sir I am currently learning Raga Jaunpuri now so could you please upload a video of yours or Khan saab's of Raga Jaunpuri so that I can how to do the vistaar. Thank you 🙏
@RudraVeena3 жыл бұрын
Well, as much it can be useful to listen to the old maters while studying a Raga. The recordings should not be the base of the studies. That should be taken from a living Guru. Regarding Jaunpuri, I will upload a video sometime soon where Khansahib talkes about its character and exploration.
