@louie45

Actually there’s males and females that are in the tank and eaten, not all females can have eggs, if a female is ever caught with eggs they get the V notch and that signifies that can never be kept, however if a female is caught without eggs it’s then assumed it’s one of the females that can’t carry eggs and is kept as long as it meets size requirements.

Thank you, from Maine! Our lobster fishery is one of the best regulated in the world. Out of the volume exported from our waters, this is a single mistake.
@mikalmos369
@mikalmos369 Ай бұрын
While I agree it's a very well regulated and complied with fishery, I highly doubt she was the only one and I doubt very many of them actually make it back into the ocean. I bet it's very unlikely you will find many lines staff in a restaurant that not only would recognize this was an egg bearing female or a female at all for that matter and or realize how important it is to rescue them or care enough to do something about it. This Lobster was very lucky. Red Lobster understood this was a marketing opportunity for them because their business is highly at risk due to the collapse of multiple species populations that feed their restaurant chain throughout the world. I think in this case it was more about the staff but I'm sure corporate Red Lobster made a few calls to a few news outlets. Sadly I doubt this one Lobster made very much of a dent in the problem, however the awareness spread by the story might help a little.
@alfmagoo
@alfmagoo Ай бұрын
@@indowneastmaine I am not here to gripe because I know what I am talking about. One mistake does not mean it happens all of the time. It just means it can happen. I know the fishermen do not want to destroy the hand that feeds them. Who cares if corporate called the media. It's nice to see a story with a happy ending. Not all eggs survive in the wild is common knowledge. All people can try to do is their best. In this case, they did

If her tail wasn't notched yet and her eggs weren't visible, then the lobster fishermen don't know she's a breeder. Therefore, as far as they can tell, she's a legal catch. Now that her tail is notched though anyone that catches her will immediately toss her back in the ocean. Also if she's caught and the notch is starting to go away (it happens as they shed their shell) then that fishermen will give her a new and improved notch.

How much carbon was blasted into the atmosphere to transport that lobster? This is why "green" is a joke

It makes me wonder how she got caught anyway. Lobstermen will keep females who aren't notched and don't have eggs because it's assumed they aren't producers. Would she have been eggless when caught and then boom, there they were at the restaurant? Otherwise, I would be highly disappointed in the crew that caught and sent her along.

"A female was mistakenly sent to the restaurant." That's a bit harsh, exposing Dean like that.
