"Put the answer first, THEN the details?" BRILLIANT. Interesting... this is how newspaper articles work. They put the important (or at least "the most pertinent") info first, then as the article continues they drill down into details. Fascinating! Keep up the great work, my friend, -Beau

So glad I found this! I knew there was a way to do this and with your video I seen the light! Praise be to all that is holy Batman! So this is what I wanted to do and thanks to your great video, I was able to do it. When you are filming say, birds like I do a lot you are grabbing that awesome audio and then all the sudden you want to grab some epic slo mo, but by the time you get lost in the menus, the bird has flown South for the Winter, NOT ANY MORE! I set up C1 as my go to Cin-D and I'm golden, then I want to grab some slo mo, so I have that set up in C2, then to pull up my frame rates I have that saved to F2 button, HOLY TIGHTS Batman, this is ridiculous! Can't wait to try this out today!

Hey hey Doug! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I'm so glad you got value from this video! Nah, you're not late, the GH5 is still one HECK of a filmmakers/creators camera. I actually have 4 of saved presets with each one has its own C1,2 and 3 settings. For example, in my "5500" file contains all of the settings at fixed 5500K with C1 for C4K 24fps (Manual Mode), C2 for C4K 60fps (Manual Mode), C3-1 for FHD 120fps (Manual Mode), C3-2 for C4K 24fps (Aperture-Priority) C3-3 for Anamorphic 4K 24fps (Manual Mode) - and all of them set in V-Log L. In the ones that has VFR, I mapped a VFR shortcut to change from 60fps/120fps to whatever I want. I have others for fixed 4500K and time-lapse. The new Blackmagic Pocket 4K will have similar, which got me excited.

You are correct, I used the large Xrite color checker for video: amzn.to/2MgT3dW (Affiliate link) I originally was going to get the small passport version but decided it was more useful to have a larger one to for when I'm checking colors and levels.

I've come to really love the presets. But, what I haven't figured out, is how to access C3-2 and C3-3 after I've created custom settings for those slots. Do you know how that's done. Also, when shooting slow motion, how do I change the shutter speed in relation to the frame rate? When I'm shooting 60 fps, I probably should change shutter speed to 1/120. But, I have not been able to find the steps to do that. Can you help?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 6 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Todd! Thank you so much for checking out another video! To access the C3-2 and C3-3, you will need to set the dial to C3-1 and then when you go into your menus, the top one should say "Custom something" and from there you can jump t C3-2 and 3. I'm not exactly sure if there is a benefit use for jumping Cust. Settings through the menu when you're on C3, but I'm sure someone has used it in that manner. You are correct, the shutter speed's general rule should be two times the frame rate. However I've been wondering about that because I generally do not like the feel of 60p and I think shooting at 1/120 might adds to the crispness further. This of course is only pertaining to narrative films, but I kinda want to see what happens if I drop down to 1/60 and shoot a scene that way, will it give me the same feel as 24p shot at 1/48. You should be able to change the shutter speed via the rotary dials on the camera, either the thumb or the index rotary dial. If that's not working make sure you go into your menu, and I think its the first Videocamera icon where you can choose your exposure mode, make sure its on Manual to have full control of everything. Hope this helps!
@AllThingsFilm1
@AllThingsFilm1 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I accidentally came across shutter speed before with the dials. But, I can't remember how. I'll have to play more with the dials. I wish the manual walked you through it, but I couldn't find anything in the manual that made any sense.

The only huge problem that this C1-C3 modes goes back to the settings you have saved. So if you change some settings during shooting without saving them through menu - they will not stay like this after switching off/on the camera. As I know its impossible to change. Bad, very bad...
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Pro Speedflying! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Yes and no, for the most part I actually use these C1-C3 as a starting base for narrative work. I know that I always want to start with ISO 400, 1/50th, F/2.8. I have C1 with these settings set at WB 5500k, and C2 at WB 3200, and C3 is my wild card if I want to go slow motion or something else. Depending on the shoot I will change these Custom settings to fit the needs for the day so that the camera crew can quickly move through different shots. That's how I tend to use it for a narrative film production where it's always changing. I get it though that if someone turns off the camera and forgets to set things back, it would be a problem. But if that was the case you'll probably just want to stick to the normal movie mode where it remembers what you last set it at... Though that being said, it would be interesting for Panasonic to implement a turn on feature where if you turn it off and turn it back on in a Custom setting that it will ask you if you want "Saved setting" or "last used" while in that Custom setting.... that would fix it! @Panasonic USA Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

@@TLDR_filmmaker Thanks for your answer! I anderstood your style of shooting process. For me it will be much usefull if the camera will remember the settings in c-mods like in the normal mode. Hi. Is it possible to set custom white balance once, and use the same WB for all custom c1 c2 c3??? It's really annoying to set and save WB for all videoM ,c1, c2, and c3 separately.
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Greetings Bass Bas! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Nope, you do not need custom WB each setting individually if they are all using the same Custom WB profile. The Gh5 has 4 Custom WB you can capture. So let's say you use Slot #1, just make sure you captured that WB in regular Movie Mode instead of one of the C1-3 modes. Now that Slot #1 remembers that custom WB forever. So as you set each setting and save them to the C1-3, it will always remember that Custom WB value. The only I don't know is what happens if down the line you accidently used the Slot #1 for a different WB... I don't believe the C1-3 will suddenly change, but it might. Hope this makes sense! Thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you in the next one!

@@TLDR_filmmaker unfortunately c1-3 modes doesn't remember and follow my regular movie mode WB. When I switch from regular to c1-3, WB changes to my saved previous custom WB, until I set my new WB for c1-3 separately and save it to custom c1-3 settings. As I see, these custom WB can be different for every c1-3. The problem is, that I don't need it, I just need after setting my WB with grey/white card to go with the same WB for every c1-3. Can you please test it? Maybe it's just my gh5 settings wrong somewhere, I don't really know.

Oh I gotcha with what you meant now. Unfortunately the WB will not transfer over into your Custom settings, those settings are meant to always stay consistent no matter what you do in regular movie mode. One person has stated that he knows what he always uses for his keylight both Daylight and Tungsten. So what he actually did was set the the customs to his custom WB daylight lights, saved the cameras full setting into the memory cards he uses. Then set his custom for his custom WB tungsten lights, then saved the entire cameras settings into the memory card. What this has effectively allowed him to do is immediately load up the camera settings from his card depending on what his keylight is. Its a pretty genius thing he did, however this really only works if you have your own lighting kit. Not so great if you are doing run and gun documentary. Would be an interesting use case if you contact Panasonic and let them know it would be nice to have a Custom WB slot that will change into the Custom Settings after you set it. What you want makes total sense since WB is a variable that will change while the shutter, ISO, and other stuff are more likely never to change. Hope they eventually will add something like this, definitely give them a email and see what they say!

What's the difference between doing this and just saving a preset as a .dat file?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Flying High! I haven't done much in terms of saving presets via the GH5's internal save-to-SD card feature. But I assume that if I did save a preset and wanted to have another GH5 match up by loading it, that it will also load all my Custom C# sets as well. These Customs C# sets are mainly for modes that you personally shoot in often, for me my C1 is for youtube talking head, and C2 is for my product shot table. Hope this makes sense.
@moreapropos

@@TLDR_filmmaker Wow. Thanks for the fast response!! It seems like the .dat files are good for sharing settings online, but I do notice when you format the card, it erases them, which isn't so great. I do notice that once you store a Custom setting, it stays whether you format the card or not, so I'm assuming it is stored somewhere in the camera's memory. I guess best to use Custom so no need to worry about erasing it.

@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Nicolas! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Hmm... I unfortunately have never played with a G9, on the GH5 there is a video menu that asks us how we prefer to get our exposures, though I'm guessing you already did that with the "(manual)" note. Last resort is a quick google search to see if this is one of those "quirk" limitations that Panasonic did to further differentiate the cameras from each other. In that case.. GAHHHH PANASONIC! lol. Definitely frustrating. The last thing I would check is to see if you accidently set recorded your setting with Auto ISO because this custom setting will remember everything you set no matter how miniscule. Hope this helps!
