I'll say it. Fort Steele, another place near Creston. Both places can be looked up pretty easily on google. If it's not on a claim and it's a rec reserve or at least somewhat known public spot I say everyone should share those spots there's more than enough to go around and the more people that are panning the harder it will be for the government to start closing all the rec reserves and introducing more restrictions on the hobby. One thing I'll mention that'll help anyone out is if you're wondering where to go that's not on a rec panning reserve is to first look for a bridge and then look for the holes! Lots of people don't fill their holes or holes are poorly filled in(you need to dig down to find the stuff) so you can spot areas on crown land to pan that aren't official rec reserves. Found one spot as you turn up towards Sandon, there's Cherry Creek and a few other spots around Cherryville. Just check the map make sure you're off a claim and off private property and you're good to go.

I did some panning at Fort Steele. Old timer there said the river is full of flakes. There’s hardly ever a pan with no colour. It’s usually only a few small flakes, so you’re not going to making any big time bucks, but hey, colour is colour right? Further downstream, my dad has a buddy that pans south of Golden and he’s had some decent luck there too.

Keeping your head covered with a toque also helps you r body heat the areas that get cold easier like hands and feet. Those contact losses of heat are hard to fight, working in -40 with steel tools is similar and can be rough.

This flashlight would be perfect for clipping on to a Hi-Viz Work Vest. The Vests almost always have a Horizontal Strap at Breast Height that works well. White light for work, Red for Yard Travel during those Canadian... days. I lived in Edmonton, North of Calgary, and during the Winter you could actually Piss the Day Away... because the dayrimes were so short.

The Chinese have jackets with batteries that warm for several hours , they have a gloves too .They are advertised as "waterproof" but I'm not sure they suit to be in the water. Anyway I found another ones called "Warmthru G3 Heated Gloveliners".They can be used under your waterproof gloves

I do have my wetsuit... But we'll have to see how brave I'm feeling :) My availability will hinge on whether or not we get some parts in for the highbanker build or not. Are you in AB or BC right now?

@ I am currently in AB. We can build you a viewing bucket to help with the cold temps, that and chest waders with the wetsuit will work well for the cold, however it would most likely be above freezing there all next week

I'll let you in on a secret when you get out of your car wash your hands in the snow then dry them .your hands should stay warmer.
