The Si7432 mod module is a better Receiver plus improved DSP filtering versus the IJV firmware only For 14MHz and below to AM Broadcast Band the Si7432 module board is superior receiver for sure Only downside is this modification requires hardware and some will not have the skills required to work with doing the soldering and fine SMD 0204 soldering work and can damage the radio in the conversion process ! Actually, the existing unmodified Receiver on HF Frequencies and SW Band suffer from images from FM Broadcasting, Air Band images and spurs destroying the sensitivity of the Radio due to lack of filtering. The new Si7432 module actually is superior due to superior receiver image rejection and superior HF and SW Receiver Sensitivity compared to a Radio with only firmware like IJV, sorry IJV, it is not very good, but the new Si7432 DSP receiver is really a technical breakthrough compared to all the firmware only mods available out there ! You will need new hardware if you really want a better HF and SW Receiver for the Quansheng UV-K5, you will need a Si7442-A10 to get the superior Rx HF and SW Receiver performance ! At HF and SW, the existing hardware receiver in the stock UV-K5 suffers greatly by poor image rejection ( big time ), only hardware or external added filters can fix it unless you add the new Si7432 DSP HF and SW Receiver Chip to your existing UV-K5

Yes, I also like how efficiently it is there arranged. I wish this screen was the same also in VHF/UHF mode. VHF/UHF mode looks more like an original chinese firmware.

Hey buddy, great video. I have a few questions for you. What firmware version are you using? Is there any effect on transmitting for the existing frequencies that this radio is capable of transmitting on? The aim for me is to have extended receive but retain full transmission capability. Can you do a video testing power and spurious transmission? Now that you have done the upgrade are there any lessons learnt I.e. any things you would do differently?

You may want (if possible) to make antenna input impedance around 1M. That will further increase sensitivity. I assume it is loading antenna with 75ohm or even 50ohm input impedance. But, excellent job!

This was not a fair comparison because you can increase the gain on the IJV radio on the right. Long press #1 key and go to Manual Mode (M+0). Now press F and then UP arrow to increase gain or down arrow to decrease gain. I'm sure if you increased the gain it would sound as good as or maybe even better than the modified version. But I do like the idea that you can expand the frequency receive range in the modified version.

Yes I know, but this test was originally intended for their default gain, because on modified receiver is not possible to add more gain.

I have also done this mod, but my initial impressions are that while it is a very cool experiment, the UI is hard to use and the stability and Audio output is lacking. IJV 3.0 will stay as my daily driver, but regardless, I will keep experimenting with this mod and see how it progresses... 73

i think it was mentioned that the fm receive pad on the chip was not connected, so while it have the ability to receive, it'll get only the strongest stations, unless you solder a separate antenna

If it did TX, it would do a terrible job. Because of the filters and the amplifiers. (They're designed for 2 m, 70 cm bands) The spurious emissions are terrible. Example: you will transmit all of this whether you want to or not. 27.2 mhz tiny power 54.4 mhz tiny power 81.6 MHz tiny power 108.8 MHz decent power (You are in the air bands now😮😮😮) 136 MHz decent power! It's a hot mess! You're better off with a dedicated CB radio
