so the sample absorbs the light? ive been reading on uv vis spec, and what ive come to understand is that the sample absorbs the light, but it can also excite the electrons in the sample as well im trying to understand how uv fitr etc work with gemtone analysis, when the gems absorb the light this would theoreticaly change the makeup of the gem yes? if it absorbs the radiation and if the beam ecites electrons in the gem wouldnt the gems structure change slitely?

I think it would be a better order if you ran the standard solution (known concentration) to create a standard curve before measuring the unknown samples. Less confusing for students.
