Hey friends! As promised, I went through four tips that I think will help you stand out after taking a UX class or a UX course and possibly land that first job as a junior UX designer. There is going to be more and more designers entering the job market each year, so getting a job won't be easy, but with those 4 simple steps, your chances will dramatically improve!

My major problem is to TAKE ACTION, because I can be reading stuff all day long (and actually It happened to me many times). But now I'm pushing myself to create something and to avoid the perfectionism that often freezes me. You're the best UX/UI sensei, thank you.

I am into course 6 of the Google UX design course and want to say, it feels that the number of participants has really fallen off. In the first one there were thousands of comments and people asking to review projects but now in course 5 it is very quiet. I'll be interested to learn later how many actually get this far through the course and actually have a completed portfolio. It is a lot of work for someone completely new to the process, tools and deliverables. Great content and keep on teaching!

Thanks, I plan to also finish the course and review all parts, but currently need to also takeover a couple of client projects from one of our designers (until he comes back) so going a bit slower than I thought with everything. I expected it to get a little quiet later on, especially when in Course 2 you already had stuff to make to be peer-graded that required a lot more effort than clicking on some checkboxes :)

Andrew, I tried to search more on the Google UX course but not getting some information. What is the duration of the course? I believe I read it is 6 months but since it is self-paced, can one complete it sooner or does Coursera drip-feeds the course so that one is tied to the system for 6 months?
@julianp3244
@julianp3244 2 жыл бұрын
@@heynomann You can complete it sooner, many do. Personally, I took my time and took about 8 months, if you complete it really fast it's a red flag you aren't absorbing the material. I also was able to extend the deadlines from time to time- so I really like the experience because my life has been chaotic this year. Good luck!

Got a job after college as a Junior UX/UI designer for a med device company.. Only took 4 years, a poorly paid internship while studying, working on a personal project from 9am-11pm mon to friday for a year, a website, freelancing experience, some code and a kick ass portfolio... You'll all get there - all it takes is hard graft and the ability to tell yourself the truth even when it's not nice to hear. Design is collaborative - consistently talk to users and really listen, find mentors, stay curious and learn every day

Thank you for your videos! I'm currently taking the Google UX course on Coursera. I go through cycles of finishing a project- spending ages agonising over whether it's good enough, and then being stunned when I have to go through the peer review system. Decently finished projects are pretty rare (although refreshing when I come across them). I think it might be giving me a false sense of security, and I don't know how to feel about it.

@@MalewiczHype I just don't understand WHY!? Are there genuinely people out there who will give them a job based on obtaining a certificate, or do they just believe that? One that I reviewed produced 49- FORTY NINE screens for a user flow. They were awful screens, but surely in that time, you could produce 4-9 decent designs? I don't get it!

@maddysutherland3166
@maddysutherland3166 2 жыл бұрын
@@chronos5457 It is obligated, yes! It's probably one of my main pain points. There's no guarantee that the person reviewing your work is committed to learning,understands, or has a better understanding than you. Often I've been marked down for not doing something that I DID do, simply because the big brain marking me didn't realise how Adobe XD worked... somehow... I've resubmitted and got full marks. It's not a live stream, no. You put your work up to be graded against a rubric. It's rubbish- I've had someone plagirise me before, and I only realised when it came to me marking my OWN work! X

I personally fall victim to the procrastination by planning pitfall. I want to feel like I'm accomplishing something every time I sit down to work, and the lowest hanging fruit is to continue optimising and adjusting my plans (creating tasks in my task manager for individual UI edits/improvements, adjusting my calender, watching videos on how to improve my process, etc.). This becomes especially true if I find myself in a rut with the project I'm working on and don't know which direction to take it. The key take away I got from this video is that output matters, taking action matters. You'll never get where you want to go by putting all of your time and effort into planning. Sit down, eliminate distractions, set your mind to something, and put in the hours. You have to actually do something. That is really the only way to make progress. Thanks for another great video @Malewicz

Hi Michal, TY so much for the great content. I am about to join a BootCamp in January. There are a few that are popular. And they are all somewhat similar in tuition and syllabus. Is there one that you would recommend? Thank you so much :)

I'm not really a fan of bootcamps because they're often really expensive. Of course they have some upsides too (like being able to ask instructors questions as you go) but I'd probably recommend starting with some basic UX course (like the google one, even the free part) to get a bit more knowledge in before a bootcamp. And then for UI it's all about practice, daily. (My UI courses can help too, but practice overall is the most important)

There are many out there, but there is no single template that's "accepted" as the norm" You can use any template. I made a course on how to create one yourself too.

Reading design stuff on websites like medium or reading design books 📚. which one or both would you advise @Malewicz Thanks for the amazing video really helpful🙌

You can start with Medium posts as they're often free (or that $5 a month for full access, but that's relatively low comparing to what you're getting). I got asked for this a lot yesterday, so I plan to do a list of authors to follow soon :)

are the courses from 2-7 from Google free? I completed 1st part but for 2nd it shows to switch to coursera premium. I don't care about the certificate , so is audting the course = free class + no certificate?

I've heard there's some way to "audit" them and learn that way, but no idea how it works - I never tried it.
