In my experience, I've found that large product companies will have people who specialize in one particular face of UX (like user research) and comprise them of teams. You'll have your product designers, visual designers, technical writers and user researches. With smaller companies or startups, I've found that you'll have a smaller UX team that will be putting on all the faces, so accounting for that user research, wire framing, low fidelity mockups to prototyping (including visual design) and the words that users will read. It's a cool industry and I'm entering as previously a graphic designer, so I still have lots to learn! Thanks for creating this video though, we need more people in UX especially as technology changes.

I'm in a similar boat. I live in NYC and I just graduated from College with a Computer Generated Graphics IMagery Degree and I took things like Cinema 4D, Adobe Creative Cloud Programs, and I also have some computer science background. I did rush through my CGI classes tho. I'm looking into doing a general assemble boot camp for it or just getting a certification for it. How is it going for you so far?
@BowlofIndoMee5 жыл бұрын
@@kristink184 Hi Kristin, what is the basic requirement to enter this profession? I only dabble in Photoshop and illustrator with no knowledge of computer language
@kristink1845 жыл бұрын
@@BowlofIndoMee I initially pursued a diploma in graphic design which I'm about to graduate with this coming June, and I began incorporating a lot of user interface design and considering how my designs will impact the user experience into my studies. The Daily UI email subscription had helped me emerge myself into UX/UI design, though it's specifically UI design, you can go above and beyond to think about how a simple "user profile page" (one of the prompts by Daily UI) maps to other parts of a fictitious app and consider all your decisions in the name of the user , it helped me pivot my thinking to be more user-centered. Considering who you're designing for and doing research before making design decisions is a huge part of UX/UI design. I was lucky enough to have connections in the industry which landed me an internship and I've learned so much. I do not code, but I do have a basic knowledge of HTML/CSS which I've learned through a few books and 1 course I took during my diploma program. Coding isn't necessary to know, but it will help you communicate better with your developers who are programming your designs. As for tools, my toolbelt consisted of illustrator and Adobe XD in the beginning. I never used illustrator for web design, I used that for iconography and illustrating. I got into Adobe XD (prototyping and design tool) when I started doing the Daily UI prompts. When I landed my internship I began using a standard design tool in the industry, Sketch - very powerful design tool. We also use Inivision for prototyping because it allows you to share and collaborate with your team. Beyond that, I'm using FramerX on my own time which is another design and prototyping tool. With all that being said, If you're looking to enter into the field - read, read, read! There are so many resources right now that are online and courses that are relatively cheap. UX is more than just UI, and there are a lot of processes that contribute to finding a solution. My favorite UX/UI analogy: "As you enter the restaurant, you see the tables, chairs, plates, glasses, and utensils. Whatever you see my friend, that’s UI. UX is everything from the food, to the service, background music, parking lights and so on. If you leave the restaurant with a smile on your face, that means you just experienced a good UX."

This is awesome, thanks for this! I am finishing up my degree in Computer Science this May and will be starting as a full-time software engineer this summer. I specialize in front end software engineering, however, I feel like that I might like UX or UI design more. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I want to do, I really enjoy creating designs and graphics, I also like creating prototypes. At the same time, I worked on a UX research project one summer and really enjoyed getting input from the client about how to improve their experience. I also still enjoy the software engineering aspect where I love to write my own code. So I'm kind of all over the place honestly. But I'll definitely be watching all of your videos!! So helpful!!!

I'm learning every day... In 2017 I learned HTML, CSS and now I'm learning best practices when designing apps. @@aaronlampman5008 Yes go study UX/UX Design, not graphic design. Build your UI/UX portafolio. If you have an app or website idea create a list of what things you will need to have in your app/website then create quick wireframes in your notebook, download to your computer Sketch app or Adobe XD then design it, you can learn online about best UI/UX practices for Android at Google Materials or for iOs at Human interface Resources by apple.
