UX/UI design has to be the most confusing job in todays world of technology, while for big companies like google its more specific and you get to work with a big team, for smaller companies you get paid waaay less and you also tasked to be the (graphic designer, web designer, animator, content creator, UAT reporter & in some cases coding developer.. this needs to change, we need more information to be distributed.

It's the oldest art in human history. It even could be found in cave paintings! It's not confusing, you don't have the necessary foundation. Don't confuse being challenging with being confusing. Learn the basing and hone your skills, then if you don't success just give up, your talent is something else.

Thanks for this. Can you also answer what is UI with this same video analogy for more clarification.
@MrUtoobee
@MrUtoobee 4 жыл бұрын
@@akshaytiwari4994 The simple example of UI is usage of color red for the timeline, which basically is used as its the key brand color of the KZbin brand. The 2nd key color is gray. The comments that we put in KZbin is set in a certain color and font size. The icons of like dislike and comment icon or for that matter your user name and the number of months that your comment are all in a fixed color and font size. When you hit like or dislike the state of the button changes to blue, which is also the color of send button after you finish entering your comment. The photo next to your comment is also UI. So all these are the UI aspect of youtube.
@MrUtoobee
@MrUtoobee 4 жыл бұрын
@@akshaytiwari4994 Also, The timeline is colored in 3 different colors. 1. Before the video starts its a hairline outline colored light gray. 2. If the video has loaded until a point, it shows that in white color. While the indication that white line is at certain point depicts UX, because it passes the information to the user about the loading status of the video. The color chosen for that line is part of UI and UX both. The red color line is also UI and UX. UX bcoz it represents or shows the user the current state of the video. You can probably take the analogy of a wall. The wall is created by using cement and bricks and binded together to make it strong and then smoothened to give shape. You then choose to color it with your choice of color. That becomes UI. Even with bad mixing and lack of proper smoothening will still make the wall look good but the foundation will crack some day. That is UX, the wall color is UI.. But wall is also part of UX because a bad color will lead to bad experience for the user. So you can see how UI is part of UX.

@@MrUtoobee First of all thanks a ton for explaining with such detail man! Good UX from your part ;) My understanding from this is - UI is more about the physical elements that the user interacts with. UX is the information/experience conveyed to the user. A good UI is about good design sense, a good UX is about understanding a person's psychology and defining the best way to appease or be useful to that user. These two can and do overlap at times. I hope I got it somewhat right?

Best way to explain UX and UI. Simple, take our body as a product and Soul as the user of the product. In order for the Soul to experience mortal life, what would be the ideal body for the Soul? As UX Designer, we would try to understand what Soul needs to do on Earth as a Mortal and then design the overall structure of the body, which includes Skeleton, positioning of each part (bone, organs, head, eyes, legs, etc), how each bone would behave, how each part would behave, movement limitation and many other). When all that is done, you then hand it over to the UI designer, who would then add the Visual appearance of the body (Skin color, eye shape, and color, the texture of the skin, the look and feel of everything. Change of skin color on the face when feeling shy). You can then pass this work to an Interactive designer who then can add hair movement, how your butt would giggle when running, how the skin would react when pressed, how certain body parts change in shape when blood flow increases). I hope you are more confused now lol. Technically, UX is a multi-disciplinary field. UI is just one part of the UX, just like UX researcher, Information Architect, UX writer, and many others. All working together to provide a meaningful experience for the user.

Not sure UX and UI analogy of paved road vs unpaved is accurate. One can promote UI as a layer added to UX to offer additional points of interaction to enable a stronger UX. Hence unpaved road with visual wayfinding or markers is a more realistic approach to describing UX and UI, if that is the analogy that we belive works.

Glad I stopped everything to watch this video. I'm not alone with my thoughts about being a UI/UX Developer in my company. It's not easy to be trailblazer in a company who doesn't understand what it is. Which is ironic. Lots of companies are boasting their tech, websites and apps, but wonder why nobody visits their sites or uses their apps. They don't because they care little what UX means. And this is why other companies thrive, they listen to the people they hire.

Hi guys, i need your honest opinion I'm confused in choosing between Data Scientist or UX Designer There are few questions about this topic, but i want to ask from different perspective I am right now a content creator, was a videographer so i do edit videos and such Visualization is always a part of me, i like to vizualize things like when i hear music i can imagine the videos that fits the music But what i asked is much bigger than that I know lots of people talk about what you're more into, if maths go with data science, if creative go with ux design However, i want to know how's the life of both careers? Which one offer better work life balance? Because when i did creative work, i didn't really have work life balance, i did a lot of overwork stuffs, because creative work sometimes requires you to think constantly or out of the box that really absorbed your attention even outside of your work hours. When i go outside, my body is in holiday mode but my mind is not there, thinking of the unfinished project. Then second, which one is more important and irreplaceable? Because i see lots of websites now offering design templates which mean maybe in the future, companies don't really need ux designer since they can use good templates from the internet. Cmiiw Third, when you become the CEO of the company. Which skill is best to master? Data science or ux design? That will absolute critical as someone in that position. Like to hear your thoughts about this, thank you

I liked every answer to the questions except the UX UI difference. That answer made no sense and was not helpful in clarifying the purpose of UI and UX. It just made the person sound like she thinks UX is better than UI when that is not the case. Here is a better analogy: UX is the architectural plans, the blueprint. UI is the interior design of the finished blueprints. One is the structuring and the other is deciding how the structuring will look, which is also important.

Hey Abhjit, thanks for your feedback that the example sounded condescending. UI design is absolutely crucial to building good products and it was not my intention to knock it. I would revise the path metaphor like this (I don’t think it came across quite as I intended with the stock footage they chose to show in the video) Good UX and good UI: A path leading directly to where you want to go, beautifully paved. Good UX and bad UI: A path leading directly to where you want to go, but not nicely paved so get dirt on your shoes and it’s not pleasant! Bad UX and UI: A path that takes longer to get to where you want to go which is annoying, but at least the path is beautifully paved and you don’t get dirt on your shoes. Bad UX and bad UI: It takes long to get there and your shoes are dirty! Lose-lose :( In this sense, both good UX and UI are equally important.

@@sandywoodruff2806 Well if you struggle with this and you're cool, I must be cool too! I appreciate you taking the time to notice me and reach out. It's comforting to know I made the right choice. I just started a post graduate program for UX Design in Toronto. I was feeling out of place as before this I worked in Petroleum Engineering. You're doing great, keep up the good work! I would have never known you weren't comfortable, you really POP on camera haha. Take care, Sandy.

yikes. why are some people in the comments so negative? I thought UX designers are supposed to have empathy? I feel that she isn't able to articulate some words. I had the same experience in a UX conference where UX designers are so full of ego and trying to correct the speakers and mumble in their seats. *sigh*

Cool input! But please stop using these stock footages. These images did so hard not match to what was said so that what was said was bended to a wrong direction.

"everyone around me got fired but I enjoyed the opportunity to get all the experience I needed so fast" Sorry but why does this sound so ingenious and dishonest? Vulnerability, anyone? Leadership and qualities to look for when putting people in to the spotlight ought to go beyond brands we work for. It's not 2010 anymore 🙄

Hi M, Thank you for your comment, it really made me think. I cried when my coworkers were let go. It was a scary time and I didn't know if I was going to be the next one to be let go. But we helped each other through it and because of that, many found jobs afterwards or moved on to better things. But you're right, I think I tried really hard to gloss over the pain and find some kind of positive in the situation. I didn't find the courage to say that in the context of this video.

most ux-ers I've met were very narrow-minded. I mean is nothing wrong with it, but is like knowing broad spectrum of design is something uncommon. I love (ugh!) working in team of 20 uxers team and solving one small fucking thing. Now process are more complicated just for sake of it! Is like limiting handyman just to hammering nails and nothing else. Where is fucking creativity??

If this is a UX design video and not a packaging or graphic design then why do we see designers with Pantone shade cards. When was the last time you used a Pantone shade card as a Web/UI or UX designer? I mean seriously we use hex codes and not shade cards. Let's get over colored pencils and shade cards for once!

Wouldn’t be a sight to Interview talent other than the conglomerates. These companies monopolize innovations, built products with no ethics, and send trend/norms by hashtags. Talent is everywhere. In the epoch of inclusiveness-this interview attaches to the same old norms.

Bad examples. Who said people take a walk in a park needs that efficiency. I would be wandering around with a paved path, not a wild path with the wild animals. That's a statement, not the UX design.

you are not wrong, yes voice interface is still a user interface, but being interviewed or working at google doesn't mean she always right all the time. i guess just stop pointing something like that, makes you look like you envy her and thought you deserve more just because you know something better than her.

Hey Bardzosz, thanks for pointing out a piece that I wish I had been more clear about in the video. You’re 100% right that a voice user interface is still a user interface. What I meant to say was, when designing for voice there may be less of a focus on things commonly equated with UI design, for example buttons and page elements that have some aspect of visual design. UI design is of course a crucial part of the UX process it was not my intention to devalue it. Cheers!
