Great video, as always. Another basic might be to be as neutral a presence as possible (whilst moderating). No leading questions, no over-explaining either the system or the tasks, no biasing the participants in any way. As much as possible, just sit back and observe.

Really good summary as always. However I'd challenge the advice to ask users what they expect to happen before clicking something during a usability test. Interventions like this go beyond reminders to thinkaloud and have been shown to impact participant behaviour.

Thanks Liam. I agree that asking the "What do you expect to happen?" question may influence behaviour because it may get participants questioning themselves: "Actually, why AM I choosing this link?" But whether or not you ask this question depends on the goals of your usability test. Sometimes you do want to find out about participant expectations.
