What you are doing here is not only spreading knowledge but giving hope to others. I really like how you encourage your viewers ... My own manager is not that encouraging he keep saying that you don't know anything as you switched from a Visual designer to User experience field.... Keep up the good work bro👍

Hey Kevin! I just stepped into this idea bubble of transitioning from a writer to a UX Researcher. Binge watching your videos for a couple of months, you've no idea how strong hold you agreeably have on this skill of UX Research. I feel literally content watching your videos that yes this transition is worth taking and my thoughts are not meaningless. Each video of yours is worth a hundred lessons learnt together. Also, my gallery is stuffed with screenshots of your texts (and your weirds stills ;) which is ofcourse complimentary) that you keep in a black flag kinda alignment usually towards the left side of your videos. The content you put in your videos is truly helpful. Have just started with this particular series. Expecting to gain tons of knowledge on different UX Methods. Thank you so much for the effort you are putting into making these videos. Much love ❤️❤️😘. PS: Forever looking for your following video:):)

Great video Kevin! Not enough people talking about user testing out there nor do most UX designers see how easy it can be to just sit in a coffee shop to get people to try out your website or app. Keep up the great work :)

I've never conducted testing myself but my boss used to run tests with people by limiting how many branching paths the prototype had and handing it to them. All he'd say is, "Do whatever you want, just speak out every time you're thinking or making a decision." We always got some really cool and useful insights. The best part was however that he justified his method by saying "Almost no-one read the patch/update notes so that's why I throw them in blind."

That's a great story! We can't expect people to read updates at all and that's probably the way most people will go into it: blind!

Hi Kevin. It seems so late to watch your 3-year-ago videos lol. I just wanna express my thankfulness for your incredibly helpful sharings about UX, which still quite a new field in my country. I'm also a newbie to this field and luckily I ran into your post on LinkedIn and more amazingly this KZbin channel. Your videos have helped me clear my mind while I feel so confusing of what a UX researcher really do and what value a UX researcher can bring to a project. Thank you again and Hope you are doing well. Peace!

It looks like the intention behind the Zara page was to have a clear non distracted call to action after scrolling down and that is to join the newsletter. Also, did you check that the links were actually still there after scrolling? Maybe they weren't there at all, so it might not have been a matter of negligence. The text/links are anchored but if they weren't you wouldn't be able to click them after scrolling either. So instead of disappearing beyond the top border of the screen, they disappear in the middle. I think the design is quite neat.

I hovered and the links were there, invisible. Whatever the intentions, as a user I was confused 🤪

Kevin could you please talk more about metrics- I redesigned a website for a startup and I am currently trying to do usability tests with the target users but I am struggling to find actionable metrics to use because we were not taught this in school.
@zerotoux
@zerotoux 5 жыл бұрын
Metrics you can measure include system usability score, single ease question, task time etc...Usability tests are used to identify major problems that impede a user's ability to complete a task. These are useful if you have a point of comparison, otherwise an average score of "5 out of 7" means nothing to stakeholders. You'll want to track these for your own comparisons in the future to benchmark against. In terms of presenting recommendations, it's less about numbers and more about the why - "this is happening because xyz is hidden/not discoverable. This may cause dropoff. Consider fixing xyz". Hope that helps!

@@zerotoux What do you say to people on your time that say "how can you conclude this from testing 5 people?" I understand that usability testing is mostly qualitative data, but how do we convince others that testing 5 people is alright?

Awesome video, Kevin! Question, please: How do you define experience definitons when creating scenarios for usability testing? Hi Kevin.. thanks for this really insightful video. I however had a doubt. What should I do if one of my stakeholders asks me to increase my sample size? And for a survey, should I go for a sample in 100s or 1000s? I think this depends upon the budget (is it only budget?).. but for a qualitative study, it's more about the time (and diminishing returns) that we have to complete the research in. Am I right? Please guide. Thanks.

Hi Kevin! I'm completing a UX design course, and I need to start testing my low-fi prototype (ahhhh!) If the concept is unusual, is it practical/ commonplace to brief participants on the goals/ aims of the app I'm creating, or would this bias the results? Thanks!
@zerotoux
@zerotoux 2 жыл бұрын
It depends! Are you testing usability? Or seeing if people want/need this? (Concept test) Imagine you weren't there. How would a real user come across this concept? What should a user already know or not know about it? I suggest giving people a scenario and go from there

Hi Maria! Competitive research is understanding what your competition is doing and what they they offer and how you compare. you can certainly conduct usability tests on competitor apps! It's good to do your due diligence but it really depends on your scope, budget, and time
