"V for Vendetta" for me, is The best superhero movie ever, simply because it`s a good movie. From the complex central theme or idea to the pacing of scenes and events happening in the movie, V for vendetta outshines most of the superhero movies as well as blockbuster action movies.Sure, it is does not study other characters from the fascist government side as good as the comics but it does it`s best in the given run time... thanks "A Matter of Film" for examining this movie and please keep on doing this...

Nice video. Very well-produced. I will say, while I do enjoy the movie, I do think the graphic novel is a much better meditation on the themes of freedom, mainly because it plays things a bit more ambiguous with V. The movie does this too, but by the end I get the impression the filmmakers want us to see him as a hero. That's fine, but the source material is a lot less clear, with the anarchy V spreads being in some ways just as dangerous as the fascist government he fights. In short, I think the book does a better job asking questions about what freedom costs and what avenues of resistance are available in a fascist state. That said, you do a good job arguing how the movie speaks to these themes well and it's also probably the best film adaptation of Alan Moore's work.

If you crave happiness you lose, if you don't accept unhappiness, you lose. @PondererOfThings6 жыл бұрын
Awesome thanks for the quick reply too! Happy to know that movie is still appreciated. Shame that the sequel doesn't live up to its prowess. I love V for Vendetta as well and this was a great analysis. Although, my opinion probably is a bit biased because I love Natalie Portman haha. At first, I found it odd that V chose Guy Fawkes to be the symbol of freedom for his revolution because of how Fawke's revolution ultimately failed and how he was publically executed after giving away the names of his fellow conspirators. But you hit the nail on the had that this movie isn't a superhero movie, it's about an idea. It didn't matter that Guy Fawkes was a religious extremist that was failed to overthrow Parliament. It didn't matter that Fawkes sold out all of his fellow conspirators and was ultimately became more meme than man in England's culture. (I still think it's awesome that the 5th of November, aka Guy Fawkes night, aka Bonfire night, is legitimately celebrated in England via large firework displays, and you guessed it, large bonfires annually) What does matter is that the mask of Guy Fawkes was a recognizable representation of an oppressed citizen rising up against a government that they believe to be tyrannical. V was able to use this revered historical figure of the people to inspire hope and to spread the ideas of freedom and it was absolutely brilliant for Alan Moore to correlate the two in his graphic novel. Looking forward to your future content. Keep up the great work :)

The character V is actually satan, if yall didnt know. The author admits this. Also, he chose the figure of Guy Fawkes and his mask to be the hero and inspiration. ... why? Cause he was paid by the jesuits of Rome to kill King James the 1st, why? To stop him from printing the King James Bible. Jesuits murdered over 55 million Christians and hate the Bible. They are the antichrist kingdom.

I always thought it odd people think he wants full anarchy instead of just overthrowing an extreme right wing government yeah you could argue he uses the anarchy of the masses at the end of the film to de-stabilize the oppressive government. But it's more like a revolution then an actual call for anarchy as a way to go. I doubt he wants full anarchy where crimes go unstopped and unpunished such as theft murder rape etc in fact he is wanting justice against the crimes of the state. I say it's more a call for progressive policy towards human rights etc. But to be pro-protest against oppressive totalitarianism. Such as the awful far right wants goverment to be like in places in the world. I say this judging the character of the film not the comics though, I know the comic artist is pro anarchy.

I think it's worth remembering that it's VERY easy to say, in 2018, 17 years after 9/11, that the movie is beyond it's era. I disagree. Everything exists in it's era and is consequence of it, that's not a positive nor a negative thing intrinsically, it's entirely contextual. So I think critics are very founded in saying that the film was a tad edgy for the era. Remember this is 2005, this stuff was still very close to home back then. as always tho, excellent video.

so my analysis is he was probably a higher class man born into it or through fighting. then one day who realized the monster he was. driven mad he most likely practiced everything which is common for people with a power an or emotional complex. this explains his overall skill. sooner or later he couldn't hide it anymore so it started to alert the others he lost alot on that day. what makes me assume this is his speech patterns. they resemble a high class man an in that society that can only mean one thing. this would also explain his need for justice dispite there never being any to get.
