Valliyappan Ulaganathan Chidambaram Pillai ...V.O.C., aka Kappalottiya Tamizhan, was an Indian freedom fighter and leader of the Indian National Congress. Founder of Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company in 1906 to compete against the monopoly of the British India Steam Navigation Company (BISNC). He launched the first indigenous Indian shipping service between Tuticorin and Colombo with the Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company (SSNC), competing against British ships. Tuticorin Port Trust, one of India's thirteen major ports, is named after him.
This year is the the landmark 150th Birthday of VO Chidambaram.
To celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of renowned freedom fighter V O Chidambaram Pillai, Chief Minister M K Stalin, on Friday, announced 14 new projects for the acclaimed freedom fighter.

Shame that the name of V O Chidambaram was not even mentioned in the list of people mentioned by PM Modi in his independence day address when he listed dozens of freedom fighters. We must put V O Chidambaram, Subramanya Bharathi, Subramanya Siva for the many airports in tamil nadu since the name will be mentioned every time when people come to tamil nadu. They need our funds, they need our resources, they need our access to the sea, they need our brains, but do not want us as equal. Every major organization has a Tamil or South Indian who runs it, We long to be Indians not foolishly but with good intention. We think we can contribute and we do contribute. But there is no recognition for our sacrifices. in the South we are split and we do not join to gether and stake our claims. For a long time our so called leaders judged each other based on caste. Even to day no Brahmin can get elected in Tamil Nadu even if he is very capable and one who eschews castel Even Subramanyta Bharathi was not admired by our politicicans for a long time. The people of Tamil Nadu and the people of South India should demand that our sacrifices are recognized and our freedom fighters get their proper due in our narration. While Stalin mentioned about our heroes the PM of India in his long list of dozens of freedom fighters overlooked our contribution. There was no protest by our people, leaders, legislators etc for this gross omission. Our own fault that we ignore the snubs we get from the North. While every South Indian knows about the great freedom fighters from the North there is no such knowledge of our heroes in the North. Our great history has not been narrated outside our area and even in the South we are so regional that a Kannadiga or Andhra join us in demanding fairness in treatment for any Tamil. To change this we must unite and document all the South Indians who contributed to the freedom of India irrespective of caste, language, state they belong to. If the South do not unite and demand recognition we will perish individually and be treated as not an integral part but as one like an orange that is sucked for its juice but discarded. India will claim credit for all our accomplishments when needed but disregard us other wise.

Why do we long to be an Indian, what is the need ( I am asking this question with all good intention, I really to understand the true reason, b cause I feel , there can't be marriage no mutual interest , I don't see mutual interest) , we fought freedom together , other than that we have no relationship with rest of India best of my understanding. I feel, everyone have their own agenda, like BJP want to establish Hindu country for bhramin , congress wants India to be under Nehru family. I could not find on leader who could promote Indian values 3. bhramin in TN , don't feel, they are local and they are Tamils . On top of it , DMK is alienating them and also creating an image as if they are only folks responsible for caste injustice .Beat of my understanding,DMK is most responsible party for all caste related injustice in Tn 4. I feel, it is unethical to ask for respect and recognizisation in own country. It only reflects ground reality to create an environment where your security could be ensure d 5,. We bought British, we did not ask for recognizisation, we asked our rights,. I think we have to do the same now also . 6. Bottom line is no one Could be blamed , but we have to recognize our problem and fix it. May be be fully functional government on our own could be the solution under a true real federal system
