Our new twin turbo engine based on the BMW E60 M5 V10 (S85). The displacement is 4,8liter and it produces 1851bhp/1817Nm (1340 ft.lbs) at 1,8bar running on methanol.

About the displacement... I'm thinking that they sleeved the block to add strength to it, hence the smaller displacement.

@beeroosterm I think you'll find that they were doing this to slowly to spool the turbos so that when they did the power run, They could safely see where the A/F ratio was prior to getting on it. This engine would be unbelievably responsive due to it's large displacement, and cylinder configuration. It looks this shit is of the variety that you dont really understand

Maybe longer piston rods and/or a less aggressive (not sure if I got the terminology correct) balancing shaft so as to make it rev quicker, or just to lessen the stress on the balancing shaft? That's all I can think of, since someone already mentioned sleeving the block.
@EnglertRacing969 жыл бұрын
Chris sibley neither of those things would reduce displacement mate . Longer rods change the rod to stroke ratio. The only way to change displacement is changing the bore or stroke diameter
@vivalaphill9 жыл бұрын
Armixs lowered compression, to handle more boost without knocking
@Fradias119 жыл бұрын
+Armixs BMW's M57 when single turbo has a displacement of 3.0l and when twin or tri-turbo has a factory displacement of 2.9l. I think it's common to reduce displacement to allow for more boost. I don't know what they did here, but some engine modders put what in my language we call "shirts" (no idea if it's the same in english) on the cylinder to make the walls thicker so it doesn't crack with the excess of boost :)
@vivalaphill9 жыл бұрын
Fradias11 they reduce the stroke to reduce the compression to run more booooost! a side effect is the lower displacement.

@ivanrocha84 Except a Corvette ZR1 is lighter and faster than a 911 turbo. The Z06 engine is lighter and more powerful than the M5. Looks like your thin argument just broke down. Furthermore, a larger displacement engine is inherently lighter because it is mostly air, and is more efficient because it runs lower RPM which means lower hydrodynamic friction, has a smaller surface area within each cylinder so less heat is wasted, and is less complex in the case of the LS7. Sorry to make you look bad
