Finally someone who isn't afraid to say that V-Series ruined the franchise. The gift marker system was really bad, it made games into a snowball effect on which players could accumulate more markers. V-Series was also a money grab from a business point. Noticed that every Shadow Paladin set not only had more high rarity cards than other clans in the same set, but it also had an additional special rarity as well. This clan bias was such an issue, hobby shops in Japan threatened to dropped the game after Bushiroad issued a banlist that basically killed their backlog of old Shadow Paladin booster sets. Not too mention that whatever clan you used was basically made irrelevant once a new Bermuda Triangle set came out. This was power creep degeneracy at its finest. I'm glad you mentioned that V-Series ruined Premium, the format is just playing a V-Series deck with a G-Zone these days. So much so that recent Premium Deck Set for Musketeers consist of 95% V-Series cards. They had to give old grade 3 cards in Premium the ability to stride on their grade 3 ride turn as well as get gift markers just to keep up. I do however want to disagree with your last comment that D-Series didn't save the game but I'll have to wait for that video to come out in order to comment. Keep up the good work.

Idk if people will agree... but yeah. I also left early. After like set 3 i stopped playing overdress so i dont know much. I think the last card i know was the upgrades to the original 4 and gravidia

@@SoftwareNeos Ahh that was D-BT04 where the 'protags' got grade 4 cards, which were discontinued (except for 2 decks) because the writers probably thought the game would end at that set. The game ironically got better (& worse) during D-BT05 which is where I started to play format. To give you a quick run down: - D-Series as stride decks but only selected remakes of old G-Series decks as encounter cards. - OverDress got rebranded to Will+Dress & now currently the series now called Divinez with the cast changed with some reoccuring side characters. - Divinez changed some rules of the game like the ride deck being entirely its own thing & you had to put 4 additional cards in your main deck. - Divinez also introduced a new resource mechanic called energy which is basically Speed World II from Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's. - And Divinez also introduced cards with a new once per match mechanic called Divine Skills, which is just Buddyfight's Overturn.

@@Wslasheri have questions... So... i only watched overdress season 1. Its honestly the worst vanguard anime ive seen (didnt see shinemon. Heard its boring) The character writing is garbage especially when they had the pieces right there. The plot shouldve been a tournament arc to get money for the amusement park and iverall the fights seem like filler. I know the first season of vanguard fight are slow cause people are explaining... but the units FELT DYNAMIC. I think a perfect example is gouki vs aichi in the tourney. Basically what im saying is... i heard season 2 of overdress was actually good. And that Divinez is actually decent. Should i try them? Also... i feel like its been so long that if i try to get into vanguard.... whether d series or premium that ill just not understand everything. Whats your thoughts on that?

@@SoftwareNeos IMO just start with Divinez. It's like the "G-Series" of the D-Series series if that makes sense. Will+Dress was a improvement over OverDress but felt like it was suppose to star a new cast but still kept Yu-yu as the main protagonist out of fear that it might alienate viewers.

Guy who now mainly plays standard after quitting halfway on V here Im so happy to see someone finally say how terrible V was for both premium and v-premium. The moment Luard came out i just threw my hands and leave out of the game because I am not definitely not dealing with that. Anyway, I think overdress really fixes a lot of issues with V. Most grade 3 boss cards design now have a lot of failsafe to not allow you to just sack your opponent while they're grade 2. Most grade 2s and 1s powerful abilities are usually locked behind the same restriction too so grade 2 gaming is just a teeny lil rush. The ride deck also helps with deck consistency a lot.

My biggest issue with G Era was Shiranui as a whole. I specifically remembered once Shiranui Mukuro got released, a card shop owner specifically said to either play Shiranui or lose. No middle ground. My problem with V Series: Gift Markers made the era doomed to fail. It was either stack Force markers or Protect Markers mixed with absurd power creep (Looking directly at Luard)

Responding to OP: I'd love if they brought Buddyfight back too! I still have my Divine Guardians deck, and I only got about a month's use out of it before the game entirely shut down and my locals stopped playing the game entirely. Buddyfight was fun for a while, but I will admit the Ace series really ramped up the Powercreep IMMENSELY, likely because they knew the game was coming to an end soon.

As a Gear Chronicle player during the G era, it was so weird when all of the sudden i barely got any support. Like i remember getting one set with support with a random ass card while everyone else got retrained version of theirs and then having to wait a year and a half for my next one. By the time Chronofang came around, half the clans in the game already had at least three sets with support. And speaking of Chronofang, it felt a bit of an insult to the clan players to not make him a Zodiac Time Beast. It was basically impossible to play Gear Chronicle in premium at that point. Only when Chronojet came around did the clan finally start being playable. P.S: Not their fault, but of course when the clan is finally playable fucking COVID hits...

Howdy! Boomer here. Been playing Vanguard since BT01. Watched your whole video, here are my thoughts. I thought you had 2 very, very valid points. 1) You don’t like the design of imaginary gifts because they make going first stronger. 2) When V was the Standard format, it had a LOT of power creep towards the end of it. Most people agree on the second one, but I think the first one is a pretty good personal take for you to have, especially with the context of the end of G-era that you added. Strides balance first vs second whereas imaginary gifts favor first. There’s a handful of things I disagreed with though. First, I find that you were getting your timeline mixed up in the video. You say that people forgot how bad V format was, but I’m not sure you remember it very well. I don’t agree that the start of V was bad. The power creep in V that was really toxic didn’t start till Silverdust Blaze. That’s 2 whole years where V was honestly totally fine. It did still favor going first, but we didn’t have ALL the issues that came with power creep for a while. So for most of V’s lifespan, power creep wasn’t a problem. Next thing I disagree with: you said that in V old tried and true strategies like swinging into rears, damage denial, etc. were no longer good options. I just couldn’t disagree more. You yourself mention multiple times that you’re more of a casual player, which is totally fine, locals and friendlies for the win. But if you were to talk to any player that competed during the V era, they would disagree with you on this point. Damage denial, swinging into rears, all of that was most definitely still on the table, just as much as it was during the G era. Another thing I disagree with you on is clan identity. This might sound wild to you, but I think V did wonders for clan identity. I’ve played this game since it came out and I remember prior to V that Royal Paladin and Gold Paladin (and then Kagero vs Narukami) felt identical. It didn’t help that they literally replaced each other at one point. It felt that way for a while, even during a lot of G. V is what changed that. Making Royals be Force and Golds be Accel (same for Kagero and Narukami) made the clans finally feel very distinct. Every clan getting a dedicated imaginary gift made them feel so much more unique and identified for me. The last big thing I disagree with you on, and I REALLY disagree with you on this one, is the state of Premium. You make claims that G2 gaming was dead, that first stride didn’t matter, and that you just ride up and kill. This has basically never been true in Premium. Some decks have good ride ups, so they go for them. Some decks don’t, but have a good first stride, so they totally try to G2 game. Going first vs going second in Premium still feels veeeeeeery balanced. I know this is an emotional topic for you, so please don’t take any of this personally. I just don’t see eye to eye with you on some things, which may come from the fact that I’m a lot more competitive than you are (doesn’t mean better or worse, just different experience). I agree that V had problems, but I do think being casual and being emotional made you misremember things and also make claims that really just aren’t true.

Some of these are honestly fair. I was looking back and i think you are right. That early v was better. its just that even back then it felt weird with great dayishua being legal. But maybe thats just me . As for the " damage denial and swinging into rears still exist" Though i was a casual. My friend was not. And i wasnt the most terrible player either. Maybe this wasnt the case early on... but after awhile that i felt like stuff like that mattered less. Like... i was playing my friend with rising nova. No matter what ...i lost. Attacked rears. Damage deny. I just still lost. But once i use majesty lord... im just unbeatable and dont have to damage deny or attack rears. Maybe... honestly. Its just that its not as impactful as other eras. Or at least... up until a certain point in Vs life. Maybe after the 2 years...maybe thats the issue. So yeah. Its on the table to use. Maybe its not as impactful though. But maybe i need more info. The clan identity ill just disagree with entirely. -The state of premium. 1) i still think grade 2 game is dead. When i went to tourneys in covid times and saw tourneys... noone grade 2 gamed me and noone was doing it to other people from what i saw. And that makes sense. The new rule made it so you dont have to. You can grade 2 game someone and the opponent can still stride after? At that point who cares just attack them. 2) i never said first stride didnt matter. I just said that going first was really impactful. I played majesty lord blaster and RIsing Nova in premium. Going second and using your force markers were really good turns. Espevially with new strides. Its just sucked that going first was so good. Especially since i already hated marksrs and powercreep. So no. Never said first stride didnt matter. It can actually be better sometimes than going first. I just dont like first turn grade 3 plays being so powerful. It feels like yugioh. Too impactful. Again... powercreep and markers made it feel worse to me. So is it balanced? Probably. I just dont think it was fun to be so good going first. So i think in a few areas im completely wrong. Like the first 2 years of V. But everything else. I dont think im actually too wrong. But yknow what? Im not an asshole. If im wrong im wrong. I just still think theres more to talk about. Though im more casual or more emotional... doesn't mean im entirely wrong on those points.

@@SoftwareNeos on G2 gaming. It's also didn't help things that in bushi infinite wisdom they made a stride that if you on G era G3 that has gb2 if you didn't have a marker, you can stride in main phase and got 2 marker instantly. The one that got buff is the on hit stride. And it's also get buffed by it's always activate regardless of hitting or not. In their defence they done this because ride down is extremely prevalent in this meta. Riding down means if you go first you can do your stuff on G3 after that you soulblast your G3 so you must ride G2. Meaning your go second opponent can't stride.

@@peacechan4500 even then, some people still G2 game because some first strides are way stronger than the history-collection style superior stride. If you don’t have a superior stride ride up and have a good first stride, then it’s perfectly reasonable while going first to stay on G2, keep a healthy guard in hand, let your opponent superior stride on you, and then win first stride and go off. Not once since the release of history collection have I felt like the Superior stride ride ups introduced have felt oppressive. Quite the opposite, I love them.

"Games only lasted 2 maybe 3 turns" bro clearly never played the Protect vs Protect game early on that had you playing hour and a half games. But having mainly played Vanguard conpetitively during V I must say that the initial issue was that Protect was just *THE* best thing in the game initially, Protect auto-won against Force, and Accel sometimes beat Protect. So by default, despite the bigger numbers for Force, it was just the worst option. And once the decks that were good for Accel started coming, they came in full force. AND they begun getting Accel 2 that was absolutely insane. The only issue they had was not having hand power, and for a small sacrifice of 5k power, they now hand all the hand in the world. Protect 2 was specifically only good in Angel Feather and the Dragon Protect clan (I forget which one that is). Force 2 was just ass, just pure unfiltered ass. Messiah played it for like a month and that was the end of it until The "X" figured out that smacking for 2-3 crit turn 3 was a great way to just get free wins. Personally I enjoyed a lot of the card designs in V though, mainly Boss monster-wise. I felt a lot of them played into a caricature of what their G counterparts did, but it really seperated each clan from one another. No clan does what Hyu-Ga did. No other clan did what Luard did. No other clan did what set 1 Dimension Police did because 'haha funny 106k Daiyusha swing for 4 crit' I do agree though that once you picked a G3 for your deck, you really didn't change from your decks standard line of play was, you mostly had one end board you wanted and that was that. Set 1 OTT wanted Daughter, Deer, Tom for 52-53k to 72-73 Crit 2-3 Tom swings for game. Honestly one of the most interesting decks for boards was Luard because it was able to play a ton of different techs. G-Units were a whole toolbox that gave you better matchups against the opponent based on their deck and gimmick, whereas V just said "Oh you're playing force, but not _Luard,_ _The "X",_ or _Messiah?_ Suppose you lose to all Protect and Accel decks. Oh you're playing Protect? Suppose you just lose to all Accel, and most late era Force" As for the Clan Collection sets, they were honestly a really good breath of fresh air. They weren't competitively viable, but they were actually, finally some really good and interesting card design. V was no longer the main format, so they no longer had to release the next best deck with every single V set. Plus they got a new design team onboard that made their primary focus making more cards like the G stuff As for Overdress, if you disregard the issue of the release of Overdress making the game completely inaccessable for 60% of the world, then the main issue with it was that they kept the V power and reverted Shield to G, whereas it should have been reversed. More shield, less Power. It leaves a lot more room for interesting card design and stops the game from starting the way it did... Out of the box the Keter deck was straight up just turn 3 OTK

Even watching through all of this...I still miss V, and the experimentation of new Ideas during the Clan Collections. Being able to play Vanguard for the first time with disposable income as I had barely anything during G, getting priced out of G with Strides. Being a Spike Main and now have 5-6 Spike Decks. I wish they just did more Clan Collections since the experimentation in the Clan COllections was so interesting to see how they can work on the format. Making my deck go from Seifried to Bullspike to Rising Nova...I loved Rising Nova's design in G, but getting to play them was so damn cool. I want Trans-Core in V so bad...

Old plYer ( 2012) and from Brazil here: Vanguard lost its' shine in the second Stride Era ( A.k.a. G-guardians/G-BT07). But it was losing it since G-BT03. You see, during G-BT01,, they announced the GRs. Which were ONE per set. But G-BT03 pushed it to 2. And that was a punch in the gut, because those cards were 1- A shadow Paladin that wasn't great but was nostalgic 2- Literally THE card that made Messiah Playable back in the time. Also,, they increased the number of RRRs in the set, and remember that until G-BT13, GRs, RRRs and RRs competed for the same spot in a pack. Also, from G-BT03 forwards, ALL finishers or power plays were in the GR spot. With some sub-optimal cards in the RRR spot. And all main deck cards that were important for deckbuilding were either RRR grade 3s that did exactly the same thing ( GB2 yada yada yada; On stride yada yada) or were a combo piece that only worked on R. And that's not all. Because since G-BT01 we had Persona Flips. And the issue with them is that a 20$ card suddendly turns into a 40$ effect. You literally double the price for a single usage of an effect... That was power crept 1 collection later. This align with the fact that prices were increasing and that buahiroad, during that time, "WERE DOING A LOT OF EFFORT TO DO. FAVOR TO THE ENGLISH FANS AND BRING THE GAME WORLDWIDE"( /s), made the game ruin all competitive scene in Brazil. During that time, Bushiroad had a weird rule that Official retailers were obligated to buy Luck and Logic, Buddyfight and Weiss products if they wanted to have sanctioned tournaments ( they were dumling stocks of unsold content, becauae there's only Vanguard here during that time, period. Weiss sells to anime collectors, which nobody wanted, buddyfight saw like 200 players in a continental-sized country and we do not talk about the Lolicon game. So, we had no OTS, meaning no promos and stores were buying boxes from othwr official retailers in Netherlands and from Coolstuff. Inc). Also, Second G was the collection that FORCED Bushiroad to reprint cards for the first time in the entire existence of the company ( and in forced, it is literally it. They didn't want to reprint cards at all. But the english playerbase forced them to. That and the fact that they made a Daigo deck only for Japan) becauae peices were becoming so absurd that a Bladewing Reijy Playset was priced about 2/3 of the entire deck because Bladewings got an amazing support back there. And yes, while the end of G was the best Vanguard we ever had ( even better than Limit Break Era, where every clan was balanced ... Exepct Gold, Narukami and Aqua Force... Of course), it had A LOT of issues with many cards literally doing the same: drive checking. Kagero - up to5 drives; Royals - 4 drives; Gold - 4 drives; Tachi - up to 9 drives; Shadows - 4 drives; Novas - up to 6 drives; Gallop - 4 drives; Aquas - the usual 4 drives; Gran Blue - 4 drives;... So, decks would in fact do almost the same, with few alterations between them. In fact, the one i liked the most during that time was Chaos Breaker. You could easly play on a budget using 4 Limit Break + G-EB03 chaos Breaker, most cards locked from hand or GY, bypassing the absurd number of cards in the game and you could pay only one copy of the GR that you'ld get the experience to play with it, meanwhile, the chaos piece you needed was pretty cheap and the other stride was also cheap. Because it was cheap and functional, not becauae the playstyle. Meaning that other decks, like Nova Grappler ( my main deck since 2012) was absurdly expensive. And yes, the Zeroth Dragons were an Absurd in both rarity and price. They still are,tho. V was a hellhole not only for what it did to premium, but how they did it. We were in a transtion between G-BT13 to G-BT14/G-EB03 and we already knew about the Reboot and how the cards would be. Which made a lot of decks literally useless because THE TRIGGERS killed them. Not the gifts, not the 13k base, but actually the increase in defensive power on grade 1 and 0s and also the 10k value on triggers was the main issue that killed 99% of the old cards. Also, Draw PGs were absurd back in the day because you could make more room instead of using a gimmicky card that Kinda... Made sense because you needed more combo pieces and the deck limit was tight. But there another reason people hates V more than Overdress: The 1st reboot made ALL price drop to 1/10 of fhose cards real value. Like, i still have one SP chronojet from g-bt04 that i've bought for 10 USD, and few SGRs, like Favorite Champ, Shigaraku Buster, Afanc and the Owl from Great nature that i forgot the name, which was in a BULK. So, people got pretty pissed off that they carss rotated out and was a HARD rotation, that cards from the Bermuda clan set had weeks legal in the format ( also, f+×÷ Bermuda players and their glued cards, buf yeah. They had like 3 weeks until the hard rotation drop). And yes, Overdress has a lot of issues, with the Energy Generator being the elephant in the room, but not that big than the disaster that was V.

V (and V-Premium) was really bad and I agree for the most part, but I can't stand for this D series slander. Was D perfect? No, not by a long shot. But it was a hell lot better than V, or even G, or even Premium. I definitely do not want to go back to doing G Assist, for example, just because I was unlucky and didn't draw a G2 in draw and mulligans. Hell, support being extremely tilted towards GC was a real problem. LJ was a problem for a good half of RG dependent decks that Bushiroad started to spam antiLJ support especially towards the enf of G. And finally, the fact that there were a ridiculous amount of clans meant that player interest was very fragmented and it caused alot of shops to pull back from CFV support due to wild swings in support. D fixed all of V and G's issues, and then some. Hell they brought back Stride in a limited fashion for the people who loved the mechanic. Its only issue was OT, but info about the opponent's OT still allows you to form meaningful decisions.

It seems that SO MANY PEOPLE are actually interested in my opinions of D series. And ill prolly do a vid on it. But... you were nice. So after i defend G ill tell you why i didn't like D series. Or at least... a preview. So. Yes... sometimes G assist happened. And it sucked. Sometimes you just got unlucky. I get that. BUT. i will say that for the most part if you were good in deck design it was minimal. Plus... unlike V Era. You can still grade 2 game people. Sure they get twin drive for a few turns but at least they didnt stride. Even overdress doesnt have this. You cant prevent someone from persona riding. They just WILL do it eventually. And if they go first they have an advantage. Which i dont like. I really wished persona ride was like stride, break ride, etc where both players need to be at grade 3. Link Joker also sucked. I agree. Lock is just a bad mechanic. I wont disagree with that. But G guardians being a problem? I agree that the cards that send rearguards away like kagero, narukami, link joker and Gear chronicle were pretty toxic. It doesnt make sense that most decks can attack only three times and if one line is gone then a lot of their turn id done. I agree. But most heal guardians were decent and usually gave you power. I think it was an overall Positive to have G guard. Its just that sometimes they went too far. Also. G was just more fun. Now heres D series. I will preface that i dropped D series after set 2 released. So idk the future especially with the stride cards so ill do my best. D series was a dissapointmemt. The clan problem" still existed to me. Instead of waiting for pale moon vs spike brothers support you just waited for a specific unit to get support. You might get a few cards from units that are generic enough to use... but my friend played Eugene.... and no matter how much support dragon empire had... he still HAD TO WAIT for Eugene support. And thats not just Eugene. That was a lot of cards at the time after set 2. (Again i quit during this time) so honestly. The problem never got fixed. We just thought it did. 2. Maybe its just me. And if so thats fine. But there was no interesting decks to play for me. I think the only ones i were interested in was greedon and Prison. Imma be honest. Prison was revolutionary in set 1. You bind cards but your opponent has the choice to get them back if they paid taxes? Best gimmick ever... but then the powercreep came in. After set 2... the coolness factor of a lot of decks just didnt vibe with me. Ill just use prison as an example. Back then some of your cards had to hit to send them to prison. Sure the vanguard can do it without hitting but you only did a few cards.... But just like V series. The powercreep made the gimmick boring again. A lot of your cards can bind stuff for free now... so your opponent was less inclined to actually pay for prison.... AND THAT WAS THE SECOND SET. The powercreep made everything just too samey. Just like v series. I thought cards like Gravidia were gonna be cool. But its just boring. Bastian is just Dimensional police but a royal paladin... So many of these cards are just boring and powerful. Maybe im wrong but i just didnt see how it was fun to play. Add on the fact that legends decks felt like nostalgia bait AGAIN. its like the d series team couldnt even believe in their own product. Theres so much more i could talk about d series. But this text is so long... that i might as well just think about it in video. Season 1 of the anime sucked, the persona ride is a boring mechanic, Most cards are uninspired and boring in card design, the clan problem is now a "unit problem", the second set already introduced heavy powercreep... AND... overtriggers. I know its been long. But i just want this to say. I am a vanguard fan. But my gripes with D Series are warranted. Im not a "G Fan Only" person. I just genuienly dont like the game. Maybe it changed and its better now... But at least you know most of my reasons

@@SoftwareNeos GC would be Gear Chronicle not G Guardians. I do respect your reasons to be dissapointed in D series, and would be further interested in a video essay on it. That being said, alot of these existing problems on D wasn't exactly non-existent in G either. Unit specific support? Good luck getting support for most Legion stuff. You can't expect Metatron (AF) to get support, but in D? Bushiroad has made strides to support Prison, even on the next set. Prison *still* does its thing, but the main difference is now they have new tools. It has been hitting Tier 2 as recent as today. It's a good sign that an old Set 1 VG still gets some meaningful support until now. It's been like what, 17 sets? Furthermore, it's not like your vanguard can't be changed either. In V, if you continue to use your unit, you're coping. In G, if you continue to use your Monarch Gold Paladin, you're coping *really* hard. In D? You can easily wait for new single card support or generic support that goes for multiple units to boost your vanguard. Plus, the game gives you better avenues to change your vanguard than G will ever dream of. Wanted to play Neo Nectar style from Granblue? Just change your rideline (or not, since you can reuse your old one), change your vanguard, and get some specific unit support, and you're done. You can reuse your generic nation support, your generic triggers, your PGs, and your Cray Elementals. Persona Ride wasn't *just* the only mechanic they added on D over they years. If the set stagnated and continued to use PR as the main mechanic I can see it being boring, but they (re)introduced Stride, they introduced Grade 4 units, they introduced Masques which is such a unique gimmick onto itself, they introduced Set Order gimmicks (like the Prison in set 1, Songs in Lyrical, Arms in set 2, etc. etc.), and on Divine Z, they introduced Divine Skill, which is a really cool mechanic that sounds simple on paper (a Vanguard with a 1/game mechanic) but leads to alot of interesting gameplay. And Energy, which is an entirely new layer of resource that people have started experimenting with and new Vanguards that use the mechanic. It would be a bad faith argument to argue about G if we aren't including G Guardians and Ultimate Stride, right? Surely, it would be the same arguing about the bad things of Set 1 and 2 just because the first mechanic was Persona Ride.

DI, Spike Brothers and D Police, to name a few, still to this day only have 1 viable build effectively in Premium because their one V boss unit just eclipses all other options, but then you have oddities like Link Joker. LJ is my main clan and V series gave almost nothing to work with until the very end until we got the amazing Chaos support that actually managed to fix a lot of problems for the clan without being overpowered.

There's a lot of eras in this game that I thoroughly enjoyed. I was really into Gold Paladin when they released, mained them up until Gear Chronicle came out and I was so happy to have a deck with Time-Traversing Steampunk characters (I love that sh!t), and while I will admit that the end of G was very...OP...I still loved my Gold Paladins and Gear Chronicles to the end. During V, I started with OTT, graduating to Murakumo when the big wolf-guy came out, but eventually I was able to set myself up with my guy Spectral Duke again, as well as Chronofang and Fenrir. I still have those 3 decks to this day and I do get some use out of them even though V died locally years ago. Now when it comes to Standard...I'm loving the game, but I do miss the old Clan-Identity. I can have cards in my Dark States decks that have the Gear Chronicle aesthetic, but I inevitably have to include cards that represent clans I wasn't so into, like...why are so many Dark States triggers based on Pale Moon? Their only Effect Draw is a Pale Moon rep. When I play Stoicheia, I'm forced to use units that look like Neo Nectar or Granblue when I want it to look more akin to Great Nature, that kinda thing...heck, they didn't even give the Sylvan Horned Beasts their own effect trigger, instead opting to make both the Draw and Crit as Neo Nectar girls. One thing I loved about the old game was getting a bunch of different trigger units to choose from that usually could fit into a deck's aesthetic. If I played Genesis, I had my choice of some Japanese-themed waifus, some Norse-themed deities and goddesses, animals, etc. In Standard you might be able to get a couple different types of triggers, but most of them are going to be anime girls of some sort (especially if they've got effects), there isn't really a whole lot of diversity among trigger options. Mech, Dragon, or Waifu, the standard weeb-interest package covers most of the triggers with effects. It'd be nice if we could get some like...new triggers for each Nation with the same exact effects as the effect triggers, but with different characters that cover a more diverse spread of aesthetics (and if it comes down to not wanting us to play more than a certain number of effect triggers, put a stipulation on the new ones that say they can't be used in the same deck as the ones already in existence). That's really my only big issue with the current game.

Example being Harri and making him Xenophobic to only using magia dolls and relying on the g4 dragon that calls on "The stage". In design it sounds nice but when it's archetype restricted there wasn't really anything interesting.

Speaking as someone who played the game from the very beginning (even when there wasn't an ENG version yet) I can say this about G-Era: The first half was great. Stride felt fresh, was fun, and a lot of decks suddenly turned from being unplayable to actuall competitors, or at least being able to somewhat keep up with a lot of stuff. Where everything went wrong was the second half. Not only did certain design mistakes started to haunt the game (Like DP basically being strangleheld card-design-wise because Laurel existed, which led to gallop becoming a complete mess as a deck for example), but also, they oversupported Stride. They kept the mechanic as main focus around for a year too long, because you could tell they were at one point just straight up power-creeping everything without even being subtle about it. That's also the reason G2 gaming became as big as it did, suddenly people *had to* circumvent letting people get first stride, because now even first strides could suddenly blow you out of the water without even trying, and sadly forced Bushrioad to change first stride rulings because it became an gameplay issue. And, while I can agree with everyone that V had issues right out of the gate, there were also a lot of positive thngs this era of the game changed for the better. A lot of clans got really needed revamps which finally gave them their own identity and made them stand out proper. Tachikaze with the Gauge mechanic, and DP getting the Tank-playstyle are prime examples of this. Tachis were finally not legally different Shadow paladin and gained a really flavour- and power-full mechanic with what looked like endless potentiall, and DP finally had a chance to get proper support because they were no longer strictly a highroll OTK deck, and allowed them to finally do some proper deckbuilding (instead of just fishing for Guardbreaks with weird grade counts in the deck). I think the biggest issue with Marker were that the Type 2-markers (Minus Protect-2) were really overpushed (accel 2 in particular), and, in premium, that they worked with strides, which honestly causes most of the balancing issues the game faces in that format. And I stay by my suspicion that Force-2 and protect-2 only were created because Bushiroad didn't just want to errata Accel-1 because they had under-powered those decks beforehand, and didn't just want players to wait until the second support-waves could fix it. If the new first strides wouldn't exist I'd still advocate for a rule change were in Markers are only active if you have a VG with the Marker Icon, so strides and new bosses for example couldn't abuse them, but alas... On the topic of the power-creep: There is more to this. You see, Bushiroad, openly, fired the dev team behind most of V openly before we transitioned to D-era, which is not something you normally do not see at all in part. And yeah, it wasn't just them trying to sell the game with flatout power-creep. R&D teams for cardgames never work on only one game, they work on multiple. The same dev team which gave us V also worked on another little TCG in Japan named "Duel Masters" - MTGs little brother game and a literall juggernaut in Japan for TCGs. Aaaand, wouldn't you know it? When they worked on that they managed to do something believed to be impossible: They damaged Duel Masters reputation. They did the exact same nonsense they did with V, but somehow on roid. Under their wing DM recieved a new mechanic called "Gatchawrench" - a special extra deck mechanic which became the bane for all competitive players and so destructive that Takara/Tomy had to come out and state that this mechanic would NEVER be used again once all already announced sets would be released. It was that destructive to the game. To explain it shortly: Imagine being able to play out a 3 cost creature in an MTG style game which could suddenly and randomly spawn an 8 cost of any colour of the game for no cost. This is what gatchawrench was. Creatures with the keyword would summon the top card of a gatchawrench deck on call, and those could be insane high cost cards which were free, and basically also removed from the separation of the games colour-pie. And worse: This mechanic caused infinits out of the wazoo. There was for example a deck which could loop certain gatchawrench creatures so well that, if it reached turn 5, it would guaranteed just loop the opponent into deckout. It was THAT consistent. So yeah, you can see why Bushiroad acted as open as they did here, and why D took a different approach 8also for better or for worse, considering the shadowverse-ification also had massive issues, but that's another subject.) EDIT: Dailiner was not unique. he was just an updated dainexus with a marker and the new stat-line. Plus, his skill was absolutely fair and normal. It stayed in theme and actually allowed for fun deckbuilding, plus he gave D-Police a proper identity that wasn't just highroll.

@EnerKaizer
@EnerKaizer 4 ай бұрын
@@SoftwareNeos I won't disagree with V having massive balancing issues right out of the gate. My point was that dailiner wasn't part of the bad design, he was there to restructure DP and actually give it something besides just being able to break sentinels (which already caused issues even during G-era). Plus, his skill makes sense. He gives you a card to defend yourself with thanks to his passive, and he is a d-robo, which are known to swing for large number. This design adds up. this was a point I made in the original post. while V was problematic there were also ideas and concepts which were good, like tachikazes and DPs restructuring and making them functional with their own flavour.

Glad to know about another Clarent Sword enjoyer. Definitely one if my favorites in G Era. I hated V-Series. I had the same problems. I remember getting blown out when playing a Blaster Dark deck because my opponent paid a single counter blast to just retire my entire front row. It just annoyed me cause I remembered playing Blademaster in G Era and having to manage what units to retire and the cost if I did wanna just retire their whole field. It takes a lot for me to crave playing against Nociel Gyze, Ange, Dominate, and more. At least I know there's always a chance of winning. Me and my friends played super casual, not Grade 2 stalling, cause while we were playing to win, we also just wanted to have fun. But the fact that plays like that are just pointless in V Era is disappointing. I remember one of the strategies I came up with was using Basskirk and getting my opponent to 3 damage and keep them there, attacking with an increased crit to force my opponent to risk a crit trigger if they wanted more counter blasts.

I do think not being able to go back to G before zeroth era is something that is bound to happen to any tcg, even back then the counter measure often given are "just draw x" is like ygo, "just draw the hand trap" just draw the outs, that felt very bad to me cause the skill involve is just who drew it better or stall it better til u hit it or like stuff like Honoly(if u attack 4 or more forced to counter blast 1) basically means my decision to play what deck matter less, wat matter more is IF I DREW X and that had always been a problem in VG but after zeroth, what matter is just being able to spot lehtal/spot game winning position while building your list towards the meta game, to me that is more fun and even in V that kinda was the theme, everyone is broken with that particular deck and match up are 1 sided, is not reliant on a generic card that needs you to draw it to stop me from playing the game. i think the point made are justified but i just want to give a perspective that, for some people, it was fun focusing more on - deck building more, reward for deciding which deck to bring/tech - mirror actually matters, V had effect where u both need to be g3 inorder to be active hence going 2nd was still good in some meta, in fact most of the good meta revolve around it either u gain marker first or u can use your g3 boss effect first -the marker thing is meant to be a natural counter so that your deck straight up is just not gonna beat everyone(gear chronicle/luard problem) like force in general will be bad vs protect and so will accel into force but ofc down the line it never become that, is all got rid off when marker II was introduce. but like u said - it does remove the whole aspect of fun for the more creative side - effect are literally copy pasta -games felt 1 sided just cause my force is natural counter - v has the worst and most balancing of all time from set after set, pwr creep after pwr creep, it was hell that is like saying water is wet, is all the agree i think the fun of vg just changed due to time, cause other tcg start to see the issue of, if the answer is just draw x in the highest lvl, there is no creativity in deck building or taking risky deck to tournaments. just want to type this out cause i actually spend the entire hour watching this instead of going out , nice video.

There's a couple of things that I'd like to add though one of them falls under one of the issues you brought up. 1) Getting rid of Stand Triggers in favor of Front Triggers 2) Lack of variety with first vanguards Front triggers are just OP as hell, there's no denying this. All the triggers prior to V format could only target 1-2 units in the case of critical and stand triggers and were available to all clans. Front triggers give power to your entire front row and only a few clans had them. No such strategy needed like in OG or G era, just give all units in the front row a power boost and they all go to hyper aggressive clans. Started playing vanguard when the game first came out in the states, was really fun and enjoyable. As we got more and more sets we got tons of variety to support numerous different playstyles, and as you mentioned V didn't want that, everything must do the exact same shit. And its evident when looking at a lot of the first vanguards. Ride on the unit, draw a card and get a ticket if you're going second. That's it, no unique skill that better supports your deck's strategy or endgame. I dropped the game after hearing about the dominate keyword and seeing it in action, it reminded me of the reason why I quit Yu-Gi-Oh and just dropped the game. Been using cardfight area to relive some nostalgia and its been fun. But have no interest whatsoever when it comes to V era and your video vindicated me on that. @@SoftwareNeos 1 and 2 interlink so I try to answer both. Yes you can stride when your opponent is G2. But it's with specific stride and specific G3. Also you stride this specifically in main phase. Those G3 while power wise is bad their gb2 instantly active because that main phase stride open 2 GB. And some card gb2 is good defensively, examples is darkface

@@SoftwareNeosUnfortunately, it only works with the OG Claret Sword Dragon. The History Strides, as they are commonly called, can only be used with a specific named G-era vanguard and *only* if you haven't gotten gift markers yet that game. Yes, they do allow people to stride when the opponent is on G2. Some can enable really powerful turn 3 plays out of the gate, I personally play Tachikaze and it is possible, with some effort and a bit of CB, to do up to 7 attacks with decent power to back it up. Is striding on when the opponent is on G2 overpowered? I wouldn't say so. In recent years, Premium has gotten a few good defensive tools to help mitigate even these kinds of situations. Every clan has the G3 Heals, which either provide a continual power boost on defense of a temporary crit reduction. With the original Harmonics Messiah having been retrained, it has a skill where you get a free 20k shield going second. Honoly is there to specifically counter Accel clans/multi-attacking decks. These are all tools where you keep having a good fighting chance despite the odds feeling heavily stacked against you if you go second. So I'd say that Premium, as it is right now, is actually not too bad and in a pretty good spot overall. I personally think it's better than D/Standard, mainly because even if you get high rolled early, you still can compensate and level out the playing field because the opponent just gave you resources for a proper counterattack. In Standard it always feels like you're running a marathon to catch up if your opponent gets a lucky crit or two, as you severely lack the defensive options Premium has and the shield values suck ass (which makes it real funny that I enjoy Lascaria so much right now, at least that deck can guard properly even if it heavily revolves around Energy to do so). Edit: I forgot to add, why the G-era G3s are used is kind of a 50/50. Some have absurdly good skills on stride (good example being Gaia Emperor as the draw 2 from generating 2 Accel II's flows nicely into calling 2 from hand to board), while some are really only used for the quick striding + 2 Marker option and are then immediately rode over by a V G3 for better defensive/offensive values. In the case where you really like to sit on a G-era vanguard, you just take the slight power reduction as a consequence and make due. Having less power than your opponent actually isn't much of a problem due to all the aforementioned defensive options and I can count very few situations for me personally where it was an active issue.

I think the D-series fixed a lot of what was wrong with V-series. Like I didn’t get into the whole V-series thing because I just did not find it appealing. Once Overdress was coming out I fell right back in love. I can’t say for certain what they fixed, but I feel like it has something to do with instead of 24 clans we have just 6 nations (not counting the crossover stuff) making the choices for what decks you want to play easier. I could just be talking about nothing tho tbh-

Excellent video. I would like to add my 2 cents on the formats. - The only real thing I dislike about G era is heal triggers while attacking. Because of G guarding you not only get to heal 1, then you can also Gguard and go up in one gb. Which would let you go to gb2 on first stride. It was a bit to much of tempo gain. - The worst thing about markers in my opinion is that they focus what decks should do. For example in force decks multiattacking on force markers is so strong that deck that do not do that just loose. Therefore all force decks (that arent vg focused) adopted support that made them play very similar. Or look at narukami. In G era it was a very vg focused deck. Things like Vmax and such. But since they gave it the accel gift (so that it didnt "feel" kagero) it had to change its identity completely. - Now with history collection we got strideup strides that let you stride on grade 3 if going first that give you 2 markers. This is such a powerful ability that many decks go into these strides even if they go second and could stride into anything they want. Meaning that going second in premium is now "bad". - Overdress is for another video, but the main problem I had with it was persona ride, which gave a massive power boost to whomever went first. Bushi even realised this giving masqued units the ability to persona ride imediatelly if you went second.

Legion was fun, but as the seasons progressed and the cards were shown (gavriel and altmile my LOVES) i started to understand why they developed G and how incredible it was. it felt balanced. it felt extremely fun. when V-series came out i was excited at first because holy shit my first love OTT is getting a revamp, but even watching the first few episodes i got borderline pissed. they ruined something so special, and the cards i once wanted to play with so badly are basically unusable because guess what! they both have the same name, but one would absolutely rip your opponent up before any fun could start. i dropped vanguard ever since, but recently after watching the divinez era and seeing how they were able to bring back old decks (minerva, luqiere and malestrom) in the new format while still maintain their signature style made me rlly excited to start playing again. i love playing support, combo reliant decks too, mainly cuz theyre super fun to stack skills and make crazy combos, and seeing blitz arms welstra being a very combo-heavy deck is super refreshing. tl,dr: og vanguard is amazing, G-era was the fresh twist we needed, V-series can go fuck itself, and overdress/divinez is potentially starting to bring it back for me

V is unironically what made Vanguard genuinely can't grow in significant ways now. Even with, arguably, the most stable format we got now. For at least 2-3 years from now. Also V finally is dead in all languages now so more of that format. Even nowadays that format is the no OT format. Premium highly likely will follow suit when bushi finally cemented that overdress is the only Vanguard format. Tldr I genuinely think you get caught in the literally filler era of Vanguard history. And understandably you'll get burned by it. And don't worry a lot of people does too. Its also the reason why bushi tries to make OD extremely stable. I haven't been to appretiate G-era, so I can't say anything on ir. I like playing V sometimes too, though my expreince is limited. But looking back on V historicly, it's upsetting. I don't think Gifts are a bad mechanic conceptually. It could have been balanced better, cards could have been balanced around it better. V reboot could have been good conceptually too, if the point of it was to go back and make older units mote expressive with intresting card design, though it is still a flaued idea. But it truly feels like V era cards have been to be powerfull, to be sellable, and not intresting. D-era has problems, but at the very least, to me, the cards are actually intresting. Each deck has a unique game pattern and units are tte most expressive they have ever been and I personally really like it

At last someone said it, late to the party but still, V series is what ruined the franchise and anyone who trying to pretend otherwise is in denial. One point that resonated with me is that as you said, V started with tame designs, but as snowball systems like Imaginary Gifts go, eventually you will reach the point where cards start to become overtuned as they are designed around a mechanic that is essentially a snowball game. The constant additions of extremely overtune cards is what took the fun out of games and the leaps in power between sets were simply too great. You can have powercreep in a game, that always naturally happens, but when your powercreep becomes exponential, then that's signs that it is a problem. But, people who try to say that V wasn't bad need to realize that sentiment isn't true to what happened in the end. No matter how many small good things you pull from a format that you may enjoy, the reality is the format was the point of downturn as the playerbase was alienated by the new approach to card design and system that was introduce into the game. The playerbase dwindled because simply inspite of some cool decks (very few) that didn't outweight the out of control powercreep, bad card designs, overtuned cards, snowball games, and the fact that a pool of cards not only poisen one well, but also poison the premium format in turn. All this to say, in the end of the day, V series was a bad era for VG and was in reality a cash grab to play on players nostalgia, and because of that they didn't care about the designs and the health of the game. They simply wanted to allure people with a gimmick and get them hooked on it. For those who still think V series wasn't bad, look at today's standards and you'll see that the format is hardly play anymore. Premium may experience this selfsame thing, but tbh, its V series card pool and designs that dragged premium down with it thus killing 2 formats with one Era.

About your comment on Dailiner being an example of cards being both offense and defense, and how that's bad, but how is that any different that in G era where on your turn you'd use a stride that is more offensive than Dailiner, then when it goes away at the end of the turn you're left with Dainexus who has the exact same defensive ability? Irrelevant side note: my girlfriend played that Claret grade 3 competitively, and Claret was actually the most aggressive of all the Shadow Paladin decks. If i were to go through it one by one and explain why somthing you said was inaccurate, id be here all day. That said, your general opinions i didn't entirely disagree with, the details if why you got there were whats off. G era was the best era, v era mostly sucked, D format is TERRIBLE, the game has lost its way. Those are all common takes. In general though most you're complaints were "theres better decks than mine and i dont like them". Alot of the examples you gave with an accurate context are just silly. Like when you complained about V claret sword. What did you want a version of claret sword with no g zone to do exactly? Be grade 1 oriented? Because it was. When v claret came out it was also a pretty decent deck. But you also compared it to the X which came out much later and how much weaker claret was. In virtually any game a card that comes out much later is going to be better.
@SoftwareNeos
@SoftwareNeos 4 ай бұрын
No its not. There were 2 CLARET SWORDS back then. One summons a grade 1 specifically. Another gets 2 grade 1s but its random. But in stride era they still ran cards that cared about ritual OR cared about summoning grade 1s. Thats the difference. You still have SOME variety. V claret sword doesn't do either and instead BINDS the grade 1s... meaning those old strategies of ritual you still had are basically gone cause now you have to focus on the vanguard binding stuff. And the guys that boost power if you summon a grade 1 are now useless. Its stupid. The x is not only powerful.... but it doesnt have to deal with compromises. You attack. Get twin drive... just like the original THE X. The problem is not just the X is better... it also is still like the other x... but better. Claret sword changed from summoning grade 1s... to getting rid of them to attack. His identity is shattered. But The Xs identity is intact. Please stop using my somewhat casual nature for arguments like this. I know YOU dont care that a deck loses identity. But i do. And i dont need tops to explain that.

G era, it was fun indeed, it's just the bad thing feels terrible, the metas, some broken loops, imbalance support, and my most dislike is the part where you need to flip exact copy of Stride unit (that has high price) for cost, you need to buy a copy of card and just use it for cost payment damn. But looking past those yeah G era was fun 2. I can't say much, overall agree, I just thought the early-mid v series kinda fun, before marker 2. but past that gotta agree the powercreep is hideous, I wondered what would it be if They make Heal Guardian way earlier, like set 3 into v series 3. D series... from what I seen you tried early and dropped, I can't say it's perfect but at least it's getting better and not as bad as V series, and some problem does get addressed. It still has product problem like availability and promos to actually boost playability, but card wise D is interesting. I just wish you recheck D before making further vid abt it just from 2 set haha

Sucked to be playing absolutely anything else besides like Grade 2 rush. Time-leap and it's subsequent incarnations were such a poor over correction from the under-tuned bottom decking gimmick it had before. I think that could have worked if they just innerated on that but no, the main character treatment meant they got to do just every mechanic better than every other deck. Out-attacked Novas, Out-drew OTT and had removal to rival DE. Sucks that Bermuda became that too . - Late G power creep was pain. Nothing quite as frustrating getting Overlord to the top of the meta in G-BT13 only to to be all but totally irrelevant by 14. And to think V outdid even that. - You hit the nail on the head with Stride balancing going first and being so important in that regard. Legion started that balancing act but Stride refined it. One of the biggest of the MANY issues with Imaginary gifts is that V series just forgot this aspect and made going first even stronger. They realized it too late, and shield tickets were such a small step back to the right track.

I remembered when vanguard came out for few months and the card pricing were insane when you need 4 copies of the card😅. Limitbreak era killed the drive for alot of ppl and power creep went to the moon too quickly .

Ahh what made me quit V, is not Brufas+Hardleg nope, not even Vanquisher but it's when Angerblader came out and was wrecking people like it's nothing literally turn 3 auto lose, turn 2 you could even die if you don't get defensives, It only takes 1 set until your deck becomes obsolete...

G-era killed Vanguard, dont confuse what the first shot was. It's like being shot in the leg and thinking everythings fine then dying of blood-loss a day later. That being said, D-Series (and by extension DZ-Series) has been the most fun format in Vanguard for me since G-era. With DivineZ especially having so many unique strategies introduced and the card-pool getting back to what it was in G-era again, deck-building actually feels fun again instead of just running the next cards in each set (which is what happened in V-series). Nations and Ride Decks have been a huge boost to the game, by far the best decision they've ever made with the reboot after V-series. My only complaint is that Premium will be forever destroyed by markers existing. I know its not possible for them to fix this but I wish they would just remove V-Series cards from Premium, introduce the Ride Deck and Energy Generators to it, and let Premium be all cards before V-series, plus Standard.

v series had a rough start I won't lie th idea behind the gifts were cool until they Revealed accel that was the moment to me I knew this will be bad. then accel 2 was just objectively the best gift in the game.

i will have agree V screwed the game. But i did get Monarch Alfred the game should of had that did not need to be a gold paladin. and a improved exculpate the blaster. as much as soon as V cards became to legal of premium. we still get dumb premium cards that we had retrained strides that GIVE markers. i already did not wanna play premium because a bunch of problem from past cards and deck up to G. Now we V premium mechanics and interactions that make it issue. I doubt bushi puts effort manage as much of the issues there. I see more yugioh sentric players loving the format.

Sitting on your Grade 2 was a technology bushiroad couldn't stand having. Why have your card game with interesting deckbuilding choices. The point is to sell packs duh. Obviously I had the ripple deck when it got hit by the restricted list. Gear Chronicle though, no that was perfectly fine. 😂

look vet here. yeah v was ass but it had its moments. I mained megacolony so i got the worst end of the stick. going from maching without control to mill (honest fire) and back to control made the clan so clashing when deck building it was a mess. atleast in premium the clan felt unchanged. gift markers arent an issue anymore hec until recently I never used gifts and played fine. I say give premium a chance and try current d format. people liked v still cause they could avoid over trigger. but now d format is at an all time high even im playing it after years of thinking it was boring. I'll still never forgive the fired v card design team for making effects like hard leg or battledore fighter. atleast right now the game feels like its getting alot better as we further move past v format.

I dont like v series g was nice but v seeies is kind of unfair ive played games with my friend and he uses a deck from v series im currently working on bulding a good g deck however other things. V series ruined a lot of ehat made the original great v series kind of ruined kai as a character and they got rid of link joker which was a very emotional arc for everybody in the original. It also removed a lot of the aftermath affects of things. It skipped a lot of character growth. V is not to good and frankly in my opinion it's only watchable because of kouji ibuki and ren kouji helped and than we had cardfight vanguard if it was a pretty decent story and horizontal oath is a very good ending.
