Thanks for the explanation of the lower bolt, makes perfect sense now. My suggestion would be to do a slot in one end to allow a large screwdriver to hold the bolt without needing to clamp to it.

Obviously too late now, and a big job to do even if it weren't, but I have an idea about that bottom pivot. Could the pivot be made as a bar with female threads at each end so you could put bolts into each end without pulling it too far one way?

Just hold it together with zip ties. Easy to install and I'm pretty sure the IVA inspector won't have a problem with it 🤣

you just needed to double nut one side, thread on the other side nut with locktite, remove the double nut, tap the bolt through one side, let the locktite dry and then do up the other one.

That's kinda how it got done in the end, but used moles on the untreaded end

two thin bolts as lock nuts on the easy end then tighten up the harder end then replace the locked nuts with the final fit nut?
