Going into such detail on the setup and layout was quite rewarding. Almost like this guy has lived out of the space for a few years and knew what needed refinement.

Chris, to smooth the edges of the aluminum, just take something like a screwdriver or an awl and run it over the rough parts of the aluminum, it will quickly smooth down the sides that are rough from being machined, I am an aircraft mechanic and this is how we smooth any aluminum we use for repairs, very simple and effective.

Great setup. Not a fan of more than one rigid box though. You should look into soft storage for some items and maybe a more compact chair. I stopped carrying my awning room (11 JKU) and instead carry two smaller individual walls that can be strategically placed.

FYI Chris, they make Two Way Drawer slides. You could easily build 2-3 drawers that would allow access from either inside or outside from the rear. Look up Accuride 2002.

I'm no full time tree hugger but I can get concerned about reduce, reuse, recycle from time to time. A few years back I got concerned about those green 1 pound bottles of propane. Recycling them is spotty jurisdiction to jurisdiction, refilling them is a pain in the butt and you need the one in use, another for back up and another for just in case. Then you have to continuously buy them. so I picked up the adapter hose from Amazon and a 5 pound refillable bottle from Canadian Tire and haven't regretted it one iota. I do keep a single green 1 pounder as emergency back up but haven't needed it since day one of the new set up. Food for thought.

This inspires me to get back to building out my Xterra. I don't have a mind for organization or fabrication, so I just have everything sliding around as I drive, and it has to all be pushed to one side when I get to camp so I can sleep in the back.
@happycamper16872 жыл бұрын
doesn't look like goose gear has an offering for the xterra....maybe some other manufacturer has some custom organization that would work for your vehicle. I would be surprised if it didn't exist.

The only problem I have with the 'Column of Cargo' is that it blocks your view out of the back and must at least partly obscure your view out of the passenger side. While I love this solution for many reasons, that's the main problem I have with it. With my setup I can see out of the back, but of course I'm not traveling full time like Chris. I completely understand the necessity for all of that extra storage, I just question if it couldn't be redistributed in a way that allows the driver to see out the back.
@cyvilburks98992 жыл бұрын
Chris, thanks for sharing your travels and your Jeep build, 2.0. I enjoyed your channel so much; I went out and bought a 2016 JKU Rubicon last Aug. I have a warn winch, but no bumper. I see you have your winch on top of the factor bumper. Is there a reason you don't have an aftermarket bumper and how well does your setup run in front of the radiator? Chris, do you know if the shelf will be an item on the market down the road? I look forward to going on new adventures you two via the tube. I hope to see you two on the trail one day. Also, peace and grace to you and the family on the passing of your mother.
@happycamper16872 жыл бұрын
I have similar questions for Chris about the winch on top of the stock bumper. I'm in the market to figure out a winch setup of my own and I've heard that putting the winch in front of the radiator instead of recessed into a custom bumper can be problematic....

Hey Chris, (or anyone else that has this problem) Have you ever had any sag in your Jeep from carrying so much gear in the back? If so, what did you do to correct it? I’m looking at either heavier rear springs, airbag’s that install into the rear springs, or spring spacer’s. Maybe a combination of two or even all of these. I drive a 2017 (2 Door) Jeep Wrangler. I’m running a 3” Teraflex lift on 35’s, with a Gobi rack and iKamper RTT. It’s almost completely level until I load up all my camping gear, (Which I do as often as possible) so I really need to deal with it soon. BTW, I like your new setup! 💪🏼🔥

Hello from North West Tasmania, i would like to ask you about your heater that you use. In Australia a lot of people that are using diesel heaters from China and sadly 2 people have died from carbon monoxide poisoning. The heaters were out side of their camper, my wife and I don't use any heaters we have a theromo-blanket. The blanket can plug into the rover lithium battery if it gets cold,and in Tasmania the weather can freeze your balls off.

Love your channel and have watched everything you have created over the last few years (and before). However, I am not sure how or why you started doing an introduction at the start of your videos but I really don't like it. I absolutely loved how your videos have always started with no talking, just some footage for a few minutes and then you do the setup of the episode where you talk to the camera. It really set your channel apart from the others. I simply adored how you didn't feel the need to describe your channel before and just slowly eased the viewer into each episode. I wonder if being stationary led you to be more explicit in letting the viewer know who you are, what the channel is about and what you do since it isn't so apparent with these "at home" episodes. It used to always feel like you and the viewer were just picking up where you left off in a conversation you were having last week as if no time had passed. It felt more intimate and more like you and I are just friends who are checking in on each other each week to share our experiences. I don't know why, but the intro feels like it is unneeded, unnecessary, somewhat forced and a little glib. It's just not "you", man. Anyway, please feel free to disregard my comments. I am not a content creator and I don't know what the rules are so my opinion likely has no merit. Cheers!
