My first thought was Folcalors as envy. Fontaine's original sin was wanting to become human, and even Folcalors said she wished she could've lived the human life she gave to Furina. They're pretty much Disney's Little Mermaid.

Imo the Archons' respective nations can be best associated with the seven deadly sins while the Archons themselves can be best associated with the seven heavenly virtues e.g Liyue is Greed and their Archon Rex Lapis Morax is the virtue of Fortitude.

The 7 deadly sins is quite a common theme that the lore community always speculate about, but I think that instead of the Archons, they apply to the culture of the region rather than the Archons themselves. All the Archons are exceedingly selfless, and they need to be such because it's their people who have big dreams and desires that they need to fulfill, and even then the sins don't seem to match the regions properly. Also as a Buddhist I view the game from a very Buddhist perspective especially since it's a Chinese game, so I feel that instead of the 7 deadly sins, it's more likely the Buddhist Earthly Desires.

@@carlos45678 Yes, I have a long comment about desire and attachment in Genshin on another one of Aster's videos, I'll copy paste it here: Vision holders are people who have such impossible dreams that it requires god to give them a hand, and their attachment to their dreams cause them suffering. This is actually what the Inazuma Archon quest about the 3 Vision holders are talking about, all 3 were suffering because of their Visions and it is also why Raiden approved the Vision Hunt, Visions causes suffering. Firstly Tejima's Vision gave him a pointless dream, to wait forever in a small village doing nothing but wasting his life away, it was only when he lost his Vision that he realised this exact fact. Next we had Kurosawa, whose Vision gave him so much ambition, he performed massacres against the rebels to raise his military rank, to make up for his guilt, he decided to distribute food to the poor. Losing his Vision made him realise that his ambitions made him a terrible person and he allowed himself to get accused by the villagers. Then we had Domon, a man whose dream was to be the greatest swordsman, so much that he killed his own master because of it. Losing his Vision made him realise that his ambition caused him to commit such a terrible act and he was paralysed with guilt. Diona is so attached to the impossible idea of ending alcoholism with her blessed wine, Chongyun is obsessed with finding ghosts even if it's impossible for him, Mona has struggled to find if Destiny can be changed, every Vision holder is fueled by their dreams but at the same time suffering from it. And what happened to people who achieved their dreams, like Kazuha's friend? His dream to duel Raiden led to his death. And in Buddhism, desire causes attachment, attachment causes suffering, suffering leads to death, this cycle starts again with rebirth and this forms a Samsara. Visions are not just good things, to achieve your dreams, you have to step on others, ending the dreams and lives of others. This is Karma, cause and effect, your deeds in life affects the world with Karma, increasing suffering. Xiao's dream is to get rid of Karma, which is another impossible dream. Now we extrapolate the points above, about dreams causing Samsara of suffering and Karma, to beyond the Archons, to the Heavenly Principles and the Primordial One, what are their dreams about? What dream is the the Primordial One trying to achieve that's causing so much suffering and cycles of death and rebirth of civilisations? Does Visions help the Primordial One achieve their dream? What does Raiden know about Visions and Celestia? I believe our role as Traveler is to help understand the impossible dreams of the people of Teyvat and help them fight against the dream of the Primordial One, which might be the Destiny sustained by Heavenly Principles. Or maybe we are understanding dreams of the people so that we can eventually understand the dream of the Primordial One.

At first, I wanted to apply sloth to Ei because of the memes. But after some more serious consideration, I'd say pride suits her more. She pursued her own idea of eternity without considering anyone else's point of view or what was going on in the world beyond the world she locked herself up in.

Some what works also somewhat associated with traits of Vision Holders Contracts- Diligence For every Geo user is Diligent In their duties aka Contracts Freedom - Patience Just for it being the opposite of wrath. The sin of excess of power and the abuse there of. If we are to believe Cryo is Loce Then Love- Kindness, but " She is a god with no love left for her people, nor do they have any left for her." And the opposite of envy Which really lends into the "Dilemma" as in all cryo users have a problem on opposite ends Life and death, Yin and Yang Justice is possibly humility. Being of hydro though many of them are of high status or on the stage they more often have to take on a double life. Idol/Deaconess, a lot of espionage and or pretending to be of divine origin but must remain humble to maintain order And last Pyro and Electro and dendro Chastity, temperance, and Charity are left I got nothing

I mostly agree but I think Nahida and Gluttony and Tsaritsa and Lust is a better match Tsaritsa was called God of Love and Nahida with the excessive consumption of knowledge And I also agree with rather than the Archons representing the sin they actually represent the Virtue to defeat the sin Barbatos being the god of freedom loves lazing about but does what ever he can to help his nation and is probably one of the most diligent character when in comes to helping others Morax as the god of contracts and producer of Mora should be greedy for Money and Power but he has done nothing but share them to others Beelzebuth with pride her trying to achieve omnipotence but is shown her own humility Buer her being raise by having nothing should be Glutton for the excess consumption of things specially knowledge since she the god of wisdom but she rather share and have temperance with her people it with everyone (also the Akasha terminal and all it takes the dream of people ei consuming them but Buer herself gave it back) Foscalor's should have been envious as her other half Furina becomes the human THEY wanted to become but rather chose Kindness instead and it goes to Furina too she should be Envious of Foscalor but she also chose to sacrifice herself out of kindness The god of war should be wrath full but the genshin trailer feels like she's going to be patient And The Tsaritsa as the god of Love should be lustful but she has no more love for her poeple

@@hoangcute2k5 what made you think of them in that way? The majority of archons so far (emphasis on majority) never really had moments that made us insinuate that they are what you say they are. I don’t even need to enumerate every last good thing about them just to prove my point. Venti is a bard, but he doesn’t make poems that praise Barbatos (AKA himself). Contrarily, he makes poems that seem to mock Barbatos, which even the nuns of Mondstadt Cathedral thought as disrespectful. Zhongli does listen to stories about Rex Lapis (AKA himself), but I believe that he does that because it helps him remember memories that have been touched by erosion. Also, during his first story quest, he doesn’t attempt to be defensive for Rex Lapis when speaking with Wanyan, who thinks that Rex Lapis killed Havria. Then there’s Nahida. She has done nothing but be merciful and kind. I’d say that the sages deserved harsher punishments, but all she did was cast them out of the Akademiya into the forest even though they were terrible to her. Furina being bratty was just an act; she acted the way she did because she thought that it was how people thought a god should act like. Not once, during the 500 years of torture she subjected herself to, did she ever reveal how she really felt. She had gone through so much, believing that it would all be worth it, because it would save Fontaine. She even felt very bad when she found out that a lot of people in Poisson died from the Primordial Seawater. After the archon quest, she didn’t even speak about her meeting with Focalors wherein she agreed to pretend to be an archon to anyone. As for Ei, all I can say is that she at least has started to see what her people really need.

A tenuous connection, but I'll give it a try. Venti: Gluttony for his drunken nature. Zhongli: Pride for his adherence to contracts. Ei: Sloth for her locking herself away. Nahida: Greed for her want of knowledge. Focalors: Envy for her desire to be human. Murata: Wrath because Natlan is a nation of war. Tsaritsa: Lust because she is probably the god of love.

I'm similar but Ei is wrath, as she shows contempt for the visions and rules with a distant, iron rule. The Tsarista is Sloth, operating from a long distance, acting as a (cess)pool of power, absorbing all that can be taken

Nahida doesn't lust for knowledge though, she understands the dangers of dealing in knowledge since the entire archon quest is about the lust of the scholars for knowledge and why nahida even exists. While she doesn't remember the greater Lord she does know what happened during the cataclysm and forbidden knowledge in general

I would switch the sins a bit. Venti- sloth . An inactive god that will intervene only when the problem is about to explode Zhongli - Wrath. He is usually chill, but we know in the past he had the biggest kill count of all the gods and when the "Wrath of the Rock" is executed, he is merciless. Ei- gluttony. Ei is a glutton, if anything, she wwnt on that long meditation in isolation because she can't really control herself. In every instance sweets are involved, she literally loses her composure and tact. Nahida- greed. Nahida traded two gnosis for knowledge. She is definitely greedy to acquire every bit of knowledge she can get her tiny radish hands on. Eugeria & Focalors - pride. Eugeria tried to do what the Primordial One did and did it with out permission. Meanwhile Focalors was prideful enough to think she has a chance to trick fate, a thing that is not even possible up to this point. Qlso her plan barely worked. One eomino out of place and all was for naught. Tsaritsa - lust. She is the goddess of love. I believe that the reason she does everything is because she loves her people and probably went full Anakin mode. As for the envy is left Natlan, the nation of war. But what is war, but trying to acquire what someone else has. Envy.

I really think Morax and Focalor should switch. Morax exhibited pride by how confident he was that the Liyue he built is strong enough to protect themselves without ever lifting his finger. Morax is proud of his creations and their purpose when creating the Adepti, Azhdaha, and Mora, which is pretty arrogant of him to make since he's basically saying his being is this valuable in the world. Him wanting to be human simply because he believe his contract and duty is over. Some people of Liyue have said he's useless to them now, however, even if he retires and his people forsaken him, the Primordial contract would never end. Focalor embodies envy more because at the core of both her and Furina, they are just oceanids that wants to be human. Focalor have said she hesitantly took Archonhood when Egeria died, it seem like she didn't get a say in objecting it. Furina questioned why she has to be the only one to suffer, even though she knows the answer to that already. The prideful act is definitely Furina's facade, but I believe she's more confident in herself than most people realize. She's confident in her artistry and her personality, just envied having to suffer for 500 years before she got to enjoy her true passion.

This feels a little skewed as a view of Morax. On the face of it, he's quite humble. He even goes as far as to discredit some myths attributed to him like the destruction of Havria and the creation of Azhdaha. His belief in his people was done to counter erosion. He brought himself down and chose to trust his people, understanding that he may not be able to protect them forever. He even tested them and his faith in them to this end.

I like the idea of the Tsaritsa being wrath and Murata being lust. I like how it subverts expectations, and does so with two elements that are regularly set up in opposition: pyro & cryo. Also agreed lust doesn't have to be sexual. When I think of lust, bloodlust actually comes to mind first - a desire for violence. (Yep, I'm a Childe main.) And that suits the God of the Nation of War.

Honestly, depending on interpretation there's a fair amount of overlap between each. I think there's potentially more to sin and Teyvat than just the 7.

I think that the nations theme is also related to the sins, but in the way that they are like actions against their aspects of sin. Freedom to Sloth: As to not be weigthed by the past or by problems and move freely. Contracts/Commerce to Greed: The action of wanting, and the price of that can be set by rules with an agreedment of both parts, or a contract of sorts, and not just by wanting. Eternity to Gluttony: By consuming and spending all you have, to be left with nothing and still wanting more, that is a interpretation of gluttony. But by conserving it all, to make it lasting and unchanging, that's what Ei was seeking whit eternity, but at the end of her story quest she learned with Makoto of a more sustained and cyclical way of eternity. Knowledge to Envy: To see what others have or do and resent them is a sin, but to instead see them and seek to grow yourself through learning. Justice to Pride: Pride is to see yourself as above others, but everyone is the same when they are judged, not by who they are, but by what they do. War to Whrath: This one could be a sctretch, but by giving emotions a purpose, or direction is what give meaning to a war. ??? to Lust: This one is a theme we see on the vision bearers in that, most of them have a conflicting aspects of themself, but that they learn to balance them and in a way love themself.

There are tons of different ways that sevens can be divided, and it occurs to me that we see the interactions of the sins more among the nations than the archons, at least so far: Monstadt relates strongly to gluttony, with a great emphasis on food and drink, to the point that they talk about their legendary drunkards; Liyue's people seem driven by greed, both due to things like the Golden House and the Jade Palace, but also the different ways that the characters reveal themselves through their relationships to commerce; Inazuma's culture draws its lines around wrath, to the point where Tartarasuna takes war into madness; Sumeru's Academiya largely epitomizes sloth, with the way that, despite their quest for knowledge, their various laws, matras, et cetera actually seem to keep them from progressing; Fontaine's lust gets symbolized not only through the fertility of its oceans but through the desires of the oceanids to live like humans, have sex, and give birth to each other--even those like Mondstadt's Water Fairie gets involved in the romantic; everything we've seen from Snezhnaya reflects inordinate amounts of pride, from their very earliest quests that disparage the Knights through to their desire to rise above their station to sow discord throughout, and possibly even rule, Teyvat; this leaves Natlan with envy. I can see Natlan playing out envy in a number of ways, given that they are ruled by the Archon of War--after all, you go to war with others primarily because you envy something belonging to your neighbor, whether it's land, money, culture, or something else.

Venti represents reformation and a strong belief in change. I don't really see that he could be a sin. Zhongli represents strengh and stability order and the pursuit of perfection. Ei represents eternity and the fragile state of life. Nahida represents innocence and rebirth. Furina represents self sacrifice determination and the belief that fate is never sealed in stone. All though it is of course possible that they are the opposite of themselves viewed by the Gods gaze. A quote comes to mind from Skirk :"All shall turn to curses"

For DnD purposes, I've taken a more broader scope with elemental visions are based on ideals and demeanor, such as the 7 Deadly Sins and the 7 Heavenly Principles, but not strictly limited to. I saw a comment from someone saying from a Buddhist perspective that there were more general trends, paraphrasing, the characters had plain earthly desires, which I'm not surprised with, as characters tend to be made to relate to their audiences. Before I get to the Archons, here's a test for myself once more with my broader scope of the topic: Pyro: Ideal: Indomitable Passion, Demeanor: Chastity/Desire Hydro: Ideal: Sacrificial Compassion, Demeanor: Charity/Greed Anemo: Ideal: Independent Resolve, Demeanor: Diligence/Sloth Electro: Ideal: Utility Tenacity, Demeanor: Patience/Wrath Dendro: Ideal: Empathetic Yearnings, Demeanor: Kindness/Envy Cryo: Ideal: Contradicting Conviction, Demeanor: Temperance/Gluttony Geo: Ideal: Methodical Accomplishment, Demeanor: Humility/Pride Looking specifically at the Archons themselves, I would reason that Venti possesses both Diligence and Sloth with an ideal for Independent Resolve. We've seen him being sly to avoid and not do more, but sloth in latin (acedia) had meant "without care," and Venti certainly didn't care to suffer with his allergies at the Cat's Tavern for some wine, nor his consumption of wine to deal what I felt was his depression in dealing with Celestia. But he also demonstrates Diligence in a slothy kind of way by making sure Devalin was freed and keeping Mondstadt traditions alive, particularly the girl at the fair counting on the tradition of the wind flowing. With Zhongli, I would also reason Humility and Pride, along with Methodical Accomplishment as an Ideal. Time and again you would remember Zhongli just sipping on his tea, giving out expert advice on knowledge he had achieved and listening to poetry, while downplaying compliments that Hu Tou gives on a regular basis. Yet, when we went with Zhongli to the Salt Archon's old territory, he was very prideful that despite a contract broken by one of the parties involved, he would not mend the contract to aid the victimized party whom we had protected from the Futui. Then there's the tradition of Rex Lapis giving news of upcoming market trends to merchants, at the new year, in order to achieve a profitable year. Then there's Ei. I reasoned Patience and Wrath, along with Utility Tenacity as an Ideal. We mostly recall more of her wrath for those opposing her Vision Hunt Decree and our time in Sword Fish II, and her talk with the traveler in warning him about going against Eternity. Having the mental fortitude or stubbornness to strategically place certain personnel to lead troops and assets to achieve an eternity that never ends, Ei was willing to be patient and make the war last for the long term and get all of her peoples to submit to her will on the matter, otherwise she could've entered into the battlefield and potentially end the rebellion a lot sooner. Switching over to Nahida, I would reason she would accent more kindness and envy with an Empathetic Yearning Ideal. Thinking back to her Happy Birthday character trailer, in her dream, Nahida slowly realized her reality from her dream and depressingly envious, in the form of vainglory, of her fate in being locked up and not doing her Archon duties, which gave rise to her dream in the first place. Our general interactions with her typically show more kindness and was kind enough to let us know more about our sibling while no other Archon was either able to or willing to help more directly. Heck, she was even kind enough to even do a trade negotiation with The Doctor, despite nearly killing everybody in Sumeru City, but not without a form of punishment. Lastly that we know of is Furina. I reasoned Charity and Greed, along with Sacrificial Compassion. Furina time and again will talk about her "magnanimous" charity, and her greed for the social value variety to get people to believe in her in order to stop the prophesy from happening without the people realizing who she realize is for 500 years. She weaponized both, much to her suffering because of it, to maintain her power, and being in the public eye as much as possible to persuade Fontainans of her authority. Pryo, we're not sure enough to say about the Archon, and I'd rather wait for Cryo Archon reveal before delving into that as well. Having said all that, I would finally reason that each archon are able to express other emotions and ideals, and change over time with the right conditions, but the above would be more the prominent ones.

I was always wondering...why are the vision bearer's personalities most similar to the archons of their element...maybe there is an affinity requirement for someone to fulfill their journey-their vision before ascending (?). Anemo - a loss without pursuit of venegance (Bard himseld, Kazuha, Xiao with his family). Geo - unyielding will. (Especially Ningg(poor girl, in more ways than one), Noelle the most hardworking and honest maid (does 5X what normal knights do with no public recognition and still pushes on) Itto(have no idea how someone can stay positive after life keeps hitting them on the head that many times ), Gorou(trait needed for a general, but still...) are best examples) Electro - high ambition. (Lisa and her...contract, Fischl...quite unrealistic, Razor-everything for his pack, Ei-all for eternity, Yae-goes quite far for her novels AND plans) Dendro - always helping others out of goodwill. Hydro - their story somehow always has a dark twist (TL;DR: Childe and Ayato aren't as innocent as they seem) Cryo - quite shady AND tragic backstory, every single one of them. And for most: revenge appears in some way in backstory. Pyro - second chance at life (Benny the unlucky adventurer always being lucky when KO-d (hangout quest), Thoma's second chance at life in Inazuma, Diluc's loss and a new life, Hu Tao...rather interesting time to recive a vision). Also, archons seem to take the trait to the extreme. Venti disregards the past and present for the sake of future (when needed). Zhongli, as Azdaha said, will be there to witness the end of the world even as the world crumbles, so unyielding body and a mind to follow it up. Ei's ETERNAL ambition (pun intended). Nahida being Nahida. Hydro archon...I really don't know a better twist(s). Cryo: kinda like 'vengeance is a dish best served cold.' Pyro archon...rebirth was in the teaser title of next quest. There really isn't a higher meaning of having a second chance at life, than literally a second life.

Agreed on all counts! Inazuma is canonically pride because Sara literally has her final constellation as "Sin of Pride" and well, it's obvious if you read the Vajrada Amethyst description. Liyue is obviously Greed for multiple reasons. Fontaine is Envy because well literally its entire 'human' population were oceanids who envied humanity so wanted to become them.

If a desire overwhelms it can lead to festering, festering leads to thought and as such acting on the thought is the sin and not the act of holding or thinking. Hence why some villain's change and others do not. It's the moment that classifies the weight of such as burden on ones being.

for me if we solely base on the Gnostic texts, the Archons are 7 beings created by Yaldabaoth that rules over the seven spheres or heaven and within the 7, one would rebel (this is what's currently happening in game) and defeat the false god and reduce the suffering of the people because the one who rebelled saw that Yaldabaoth is very evil. It is said that the rebellion was done smoothly because of the help of the beings that are pure and higher than Yaldabaoth; if it is to be done in Genshin the rebellion that the Tsaritsa would do will be successful because of the help of descenders. The seven archons in the secret book of John are described as this: Goodness paired with the first: Athoth Providence paired with the second: Eloaios Divinity paired with the third: Astaphaios Lordship paired with the fourth: Yao Kingdom paired with the fifth: Sabaoth Zeal paired with the sixth: Adonin Understanding paired with the seventh: Sabbataios this is still an unclear theory of mine since I'm still doing some readings on Gnostic books

My personal list would be Venti - sloth (he’s a sleepy boy and rarely does anything for his nation. Alternatively could be gluttony) Zhongli - greed (not so much because he himself is greedy, but because he intentionally built a nation that revolves around money. He ruled primarily through manipulation of the economy) Ei - pride (thinks her nation should stay as it is without any improvements or outside influence. Alternatively could be sloth) Nahida - gluttony (over consumption of knowledge. Could also be pride, but that applies less to Nahida and more to her people.) Focalors - envy (she and the other oceanids envied humanity so much that they became human) Pyro archon - wrath (we have nearly nothing about her to go off of, but god of war seems pretty wrathful to me) Tsaritsa - lust (again don’t have much to go on, we know a decent amount about the fatui, but not the Tsaritsa. Several quotes associate her with love though, which can become lust when twisted.) Something that helped me decide was looking at not just the archons but the people relevant to them, since those are sometimes more explicit with their theming. Like Zhongli might not be greedy, but ningguang sure is. Mondstadt has frequent mentions of how much people like to be lazy. Most explicit was Kujo Sara literally having “sin of pride” as a constellation.

Been doing this for so long now. For me: Anemo for sloth. Talented users held back by their insecurities almost doing nothing with them, hence sloth. Geo for avarice. Stubborn pursuit towards often unattainable goals. Electro for pride. Beings of strong infallible character; of strong sense of self. Dendro for gluttony. Being consumed with or obsession about an ideology, goal, or purpose. Hydro for vanity. Public figures balancing public image and their personal secrets. Pyro for wrath. Passionate, desire-driven people suffering the consequences of their impulsiveness. Cryo for envy. Victims of life's cruel irony, fighting fate to be akin the mundane. Vanity was once part of the cardinal sins before being merged with pride btw.

I framed it this way in order to accomodate the traveler's story because: In Mondstadt, we discover ourself (character creation) to have a talent to use elemental energy without a vision or knowledge of the whole world and our lack of self-identity hinders us from showing our full potential. We go to Liyue, where we officially start our seemingly impossible mission to reunite with our sibling. Arriving at Inazuma, after the traumatic death of an ally, we create an image of a hero in ourselves to go against god herself and to liberate the people. Here we become THE hero. Off to Sumeru, where our role as a hero develops further. Our travels focus more on saving people than finding our sibling. When we reach Fontaine, our reputation as a hero peaked. But the challenges we face in the nation go against our image as a hero: we defend the fatui; we go to jail; we help fulfill the prophecy. I'm guessing when we reach Natlan, MC will have to decide what he truly desires - to be the hero, or to reunite our family. Then in Shneznaya, whatever we may choose in Natlan, fate will be against us in the climactic battle.

I'd trade Natlan with Snezhnaya. Tsaritsa is the goddess of love, love connects with lust pretty easily. Natlan's archon is the god of war, wrath. Tsaritsa wants to overthrow Celestia. A lust for power, a desire for a satisfying change derived from that power, backed by her love for humanity, which she is said to have. We've heard she's kind, but had to harden her heart. We've heard that she took in Pierro under her service and hatched a plan to take on Celestia with him, following the cataclysm and the curse on Khaenri'ah. I can very much see her stubbornly abstaining from the cataclysm and trying to pick up the pieces of the destroyed nation, working in secret to gather power of various sorts in an effort to protect humanity and change the world for the better... But I might be giving her too much credit. We'll see

Personally, I think it's just as likely that the prophecy was a warning rather than a prophecy. That would make the 'punishment' for the sin an unnecessary isolation on focalors part to accomplish something that would've been reaolved anyway. In that way, her pride would become a prison of her own making.

The 7 Deadly Sin that Archons PEOPLE committed or PRONE to commit. Mondstadt. The Sin of Sloth. The Knights of Favonious slow & inactions against the Fatui can be seen as rather a wise decision but for Diluc it was slow & ineffective. Liyue. The Sin of Greed. Thou in the Archon Quest showed their generosity, Tartaglias experience tell us otherwise, added Zhongli experience as well. Inazuma. The Sin of Gluttony. To be Honest, I don't know anything that contributes to this. Sumeru. The Sin of Pride. The Sages though they were better that others, their God included, looking down upon them incapable. Fontaine. The Sin of Envy. Egeria's people wishes to become human, thou she fulfilled it willingly, cause her to commit a greater sin, that endanger the whole of Fontaine. Natland. Sin of Wrath. I speculated that, the reason for their endless war were more about revenge, which causes a feud among different tribes. Sneznaya. Sin of Lust. Lust often depicted as only attraction to physical beauty, but it can be interpreted as relation without love, only seeking the benefits of said relationship, like how the travail trailer describe Sneznaya.

I think that Venti should be greed, as he wants all the freedom for himself and his people without putting in the work. Nahida would then be gluttony as she has an insatiable appetite for knowledge and will always seek out knowledge to consume.

Speaking of Natlan, it just occurred to me that Neuvellette may have inadvertently told us where Grandmaster Varka and the knights actually went. When Mika read the Grandmaster’s letter out loud during the “of ballads and brews” event, he mentioned meeting the Captain, who we know is going to Natlan. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Grandmaster during the Archon quest in Natlan.

I do think the similarities of Archons and Deadly Sins are intentional, but my analysis is a bit different from yours. Venti as Gluttony, he wants freedom to consume, to behave in excess (drunk) Zhongli as Sloth, he doesn't wanna have to work, which is why he keeps relinquishing his responsibility as ruler of Liyue, he wants to wander the world, Vago Mundo means Lazy World in Spanish, Wandering World in Latin. Ei as Vainglory / Pride, she has a very hard time admitting her mistakes, she had to lose a war for her to admit she made a mistake in her decision to completely isolate Inazuma and end the Vision Hunt Decree. Nahida as Greed, she wants to hoard knowledge, maybe? (I haven't finished Sumeru) Forcalors as Envy , she created Furina because she was envious of humans / wanted to be human, maybe? (Haven't finished Fontaine) Murata / Tsaritsa unknown?

How would that make Zhongli be envy? The guy who doesn't care about what he has or doesn't, what he gains or loses? If anything it should be Pride since he is incredibly prideful and dutiful of his identity as god of contracts to the point he dictates everything he does and allows others to do based on contracts. Pride was what made him believe a small bit of his power alone was enough to stop Azhdaha's erosion, Pride was what to this day makes him see Liyue as a golden flower he himself raised and viewing it as above any other. He is the very definition of Pride.

He's not the only one that can contend for Pride though. Depending on interpretation, you can give the archons any number of sins. Even Focalors and Egeria might be considered pride.

Very very much missed the mark on all counts. Sara's final constellation (dedicated Raiden support) is literally "Sin of Pride". Focalors is absolutely connected mostly to Envy by her envy of humanity, and Freedom as an ideal absolutely does encourage slothfulness in Genshin. The Tsaritsa's connections to Grief absolutely connect her more to Lust even ignoring the sexual connotations, and i think it will be clear very soon that the ideal of War aligns with Wrath. The endless consumption of knowledge in Sumeru aligns more to Gluttony than Greed, and the nation of contracts routinely shows Greed in practice by the use of the letter of the law to enhance wealth.

I think nahida represents gluttony better than venti does. As gluttony os kore about overindulgence in something that you want. Nahida clearly values wisdom almost as much as her people. Unlike lust though it doesnt control her actions and shes willing to share it with others. Ei I feel should be envy as her entire perspective of eternity was to get as close to the heavenly principles as possible. Her entire goalwas to get as close as possible amd she believes that eternity will bring her to that point or atleast really close. As for lust I feel it shpuld be zhongli as his people for him always come first. He cares a little too much about his nation and goes so far as to put it in danger to find out if it can survive without him once hes gone forever. Furina/focalor are definitely pride though as many would object or atleast focalor is and less furina (they are seperate characters and since this is the archons lets look at the actual archon part). Focalor is very proud of humanity even devoting her perspecrive on justice to keep their existence ongoing at any cost. for the remaining 3 I am unsure about their placements but this is what makes sense to me sk though i'd share

As the sanest Evillious Chronicles fan I had already speculated this a long time ago and these are my thoughts: *Lust - Electro:* Lust isn't always sexual. It can just mean a deep desire for something. Lusting after things. With Ei's approach and severe longing for eternity, she harmed her people, even if she had genuine intentions with her ideals. *Gluttony - Dendro:* It can be described as the overconsumption of food and drink, but it can also be the overconsumption of knowledge. With the way the sages overflowed the people of Sumeru's minds during the AQ and what they aspired to do, it was all in the name of retrieving more knowledge and what could humanity do with it. *Pride - Hydro:* As a Hydro main player, I've come to notice a lot of characters who wield this element, they tend to have some "pride" to uphold, generally for the sake of other people they're protecting, eg. Ayato, Furina, Neuvillette, Candace; sometimes it's just them wanting to maintain their self image and/or being rather self indulgent, eg. Xingqiu and Childe; These characters generally are also placed in the spotlight because of their status and they obviously take much pride in that as well and act accordingly so much so to reduce the expectations of their people about themselves. Not to mention Furina already reminds me of a character in EC for obvious reasons so this was a bit of a biased choice. *Envy - Cryo:* The wielders generally at a position in their life in which they don't necessarily want to be in and long for something different than what they have. Eg. Ayaka, Shenhe, Chongyun... They're in an in between where even if they're okay with the position, they also long for experiencing the same things the people around them get to do. Ayaka being the face of the Kamisato Clan but wanting to travel all around the world, and Shenhe being secluded from humanity yet being human herself and genuinely wanting that connection with people... *Sloth - Anemo:* Whilst I do agree Gluttony can suit Anemo as well, taking into consideration how freedom gives you the ability to do Anything it also grants you the ability to do nothing. Mondstadt as is ever unchanging and Venti himself doesn't interfere unless the situation is rather dire, and he's done this 3 times only. The people of Mondstadt also don't seem to want to change their ways because it works well for them, but by the looks of it it also appears that they're so devoted to such that they also don't seem all too in the loop about the other nations. *Greed - Geo:* This is... kind of self explanatory. Morax is responsible for creating Mora, but this is less about him and moreso his nation. I admittedly don't know much about Liyue because I don't really explore it BUT I can say that his nation thriving off the currency he created is enough for me to call it Greed. *Pyro - Wrath:* This is also self explanatory. Natlan is described as the nation of war and fire, which goes hand in hand with symbolism about wrath. Obviously these are just my takes, and I hope to know what people think of it.

The seven deadly sins are nowhere in biblical texts. They are never referred to as "deadly sins" nor are they put into a list in biblical texts. The term came from a Pope in 600AD and later on made popular by Dante in the Divine comedy in the early 1300s.

I've always thought of the sins being in the personality of the archons rather than their actions. To me, it seemed more like the sin was only a washed down and small part of their personality. My take on it is: Venti: SLOTH - always sleeping, only wakes up when Mondstadt is in danger or when something huge will happen. chronic alcoholic 😭 put bro in rehab Zhongli: GREED - Zhongli is too much a chad to actually show his sin lmao He's a dragon, makes a lot of coins, I've always seen stuff in media with dragons hoarding and protecting coins (zhongli shared tho 💟) It'd be funny to see in the future events Zhongli being greedy on historical items or something similar. it doesn't seem like he cares about money all that much. (do we ever see zhongli’s room?) Ei: GLUTTONY - Girlie doesn't even have a voiceline on what her least favourite food is .. huh??? she’d just eat anything?? (I can imagine focalor just showing off flashy water tricks to the other archons if she was still alive 😭😭) Tsaritsa: LUST - “Nation of Love ♥️” Venti says she used to be the sweetest and warmest out of all of them, very LOVE-ing perhaps huh venti??? Murata(himeko .. 💔): WRATH - Nation of War, We know nothing of the Pyro Archon so it's hard to say but it's the last one on the list. Also, Wouldn't it be so cool if the dragons had the 7 heavenly virtues? Neuvillette seems to be Humility (so humble..) Eh, actually I don't think the Archons map at all well with the Seven Sins, but IF I were to do so, I would have made different choices. Venti - Sloth Zhongli - Greed (Just because of Mora) Raiden - Pride Nahida - Envy (for knowledge) Furina - Gluttony because she loves sweets. But as I said, it's kind of non-sensical to equate the 7 Archons with the 7 Sins just because they number the same. I mean 7 IS considered a good number in general. Kind of like 3. If we have 3 of anything, do we equate them with the Holy Trinity? What about Rock-Paper-Scissors? How about Past, Present, Future? Etc., etc. I don't think just because something number the same, it means we should compare them with everything that has the same number. Otherwise, you might as well equate the 7 Elements with the 7 Sins. Or how about the days of the week with the Sins. Or how about the 5 weapon types with the 5 fingers on your hand? Etc., etc. So, I think this is kind of a lame idea to try out, but to each their own.

Shouldn't Ei be sloth because she wished for everything to stand still and not move forward? Venti suits gluttony more because because he's using alcohol as a means of forgetting his burdens to the point of dependence. I agree with Nahida and envy. She was probably envious of the love and respect Rukkha got but she wasn't bitter about it. Instead it made her doubt her abilities and worth. I don't think Zhongli is greedy but the people of his nation is in a way encourage to be, because of the culture that developed because of his ideals representing contracts and his creation of Mora. Someone once pointed out to me that Furina can represent lust because her title Regina of All waters is a reference to the whore of babylon. In the bible the whore betrayed heaven by colluding with a draconic beast that was the enemy of heaven and in the end was left desolate because of it. Which is kinda what happened in the 4.2 aq. Besides lust for Focalors/Furina can refer to a lust for life because they wanted to experience humanity and simply live as a human would. I can see Tsaritsa and Murata both fit pride and wrath so I'm not gonna make a guess on this one because it can go either way. Anyways while I agree we shouldn't randomly started making comparison because of the number Hoyo are very aware of the mythologies and beliefs present in the Abrahamic faith and have made countless reference to them so I don't think it's to farfetched to theorized about possible connections between the seven deadly sins and the Archons. But as you say to each their own.

These were just the things I came up with based on what we've seen of their character and all, but even then none of them really work. For me, Raiden was more concerned about the pride of being unchanging. I definitely do NOT think she's similar to Sloth as fighting someone for 500 years over and over again with no end in sight, sounds like the opposite of Sloth. Also, Furina has shown nothing of Lust, so just because she has a reference to a whore, doesn't really fit for me. I just think this is a significant stretch as we haven't really been shown anything wrt the sins except the number. I think Aster has some much more grounded theories, but this one feels kind of forced.

I would pair Venti with Greed. Venti's greed is not self indulgent like the usual norm would define it. Venti's greed comes from his overwhelming desire for everyone to be free with no restrictions or limitations. This is shown through how even tho he's an Archon he does not rule over his people for the sake of their freedom. Venti's greed is more Altruistic to the point that he's willing to put his own existence in danger due his lack of influence over his peiple which is necessary for an Archon to maintain their power and authority if ut meant stepping kover his people's freedom. That Greed may even be tge cause of his demise someday I can't really see Zhongli with any of the Sins on account pf him being more of a passivist. I mean sure he was strong during the Archon war even titled as a war God but in all the stories (as far as i remember) Morax never actively went after any God outside of him fulfilling some sort of contract. Morax's victories and God killing always happened as a responsive action and never out of conquestic desires. I agree with Raiden being sloth as she even if due her fear of the changing future still decided not fo act when her people needed her the most. This is just my thinking/opinion but i think the first crack in her shell of sloth of 500 years came to be a year ago from the story when the vision hunt decree was declared. From the information we got from Nuvilette we do now know that vision are pieces of the Archons power that is given to an individual. (tho whether the Archons are aware if it or not is still debatable), the reason a candidate is choosen to receive a vision is because said individual in some way was able to resonate with the Archon's ideal with a very strong will. The reason that Electro Visuon distribution stopped right after Ei declared the visuon hunt decree is because her belief in her form of stagnant Eternity started wavering when her own people stood against her, remember these are the same people she promised the Eternal unazuma to. So when her reason for pursuing her form Eternity stood against her she herself in some way (atleast unconsciously) started doubting wherher she was doing the right thing or not. Nahida I'd definitely pair with Glotton for knowledge. She was ready to part away with her Gnosis that she had just gotteen after soo many years if it meant she could obtain information that is very unlikely to come across easily. As the God of Wisdom and knowledge it's part of her nature to be constantly obtain and consume knowledge as oart of her job description. Focalors'/Furina is most definitely Envy. The whole reason for the oceanid - human transformation Sin problem was because the Oceanids including Focalors' wanted to be human and experience human joys and sorrows. Even after gaining human form it would not last for much long for focalors' as she then had to become the new Archon denying her a normal human existence. I don't know if you'd call it related to envy but it is quite Ironic. When Furina's act began we see her talk to msny prople of how she awaits for the grand trial that will save fontaine and set hsr free showing how much she longed for it but when it actually does happen she herself doesn't realise it even going as far as to advocate against it. Murata ( or rather the current Pyro Archon) will most definitely have to be paired with pride. For someone who is revered as the God of War, the weight of that titke Alone draws pride over the God's power. I do agree with Tsaritsa being paired ith the sin of Wrath. Wrath often comes from a very strong sense of loss and grief, in the sense that the loss was wrong or unjust bringing forth the Wrath of vengeances. For someone who was the God of love to be proclaimed as "a God with no love left" the loss she felt and the weight of the Wrath being as strong as to will the destruction of the entirety of the world must be very crushing fir her

i honestly think that the seven deadly sins would be from khaenri'ah. like the 7 best worriors or generals. i know its like the anime etc... but it would be cool to be introduced to dain as the sin of wrath. after all he "made the wrong choice" wich possibly led to death of all people of khaenri'ah. at least thats what sibling's words meant for me. smth like "you could've stop this, but you failed"

Just that I've seen none from her towards anything other than "Eternity". And the immense pride she had in her plan. Her Ego is generally off the roof which is usually a thing in prideful characters

Pride is also a theme present in the Taritza’s character so for ! Yes she seams to be motivated by revenge…but there is no one more Prideful then those who defy the Devine’s rules , after all theologically speaking Pride is Satan’s sin and Taritza is definitely a Satan from Celestia’s perspective !

i love your video but initially i thougt that warth matches more with natlan and murata and themes around war anger fire etc. While lust fits more with Tsarina, the love archon, with frenzy and will to destroy celestia and all the blasphematory it could involve. I feel like it also fits more with cryo in my head. And with less assertertude I had sloth for venti and his demeanor or never being able to attend his role etc. Greed with Zhongli with contracts his way of live very entertainment oriented, and leaving Raiden and Envy, the envy to control all the nation, to be the only ruler and get all visions for her privating everyone with her sin. Greed was for me Sumeru too and all the way they explore the pursue of knowledge etc. Love you !

His "personal challenge" was to "let go" of his responsabilities and see this nation he crafted so well be handled by others Ei is greed: she lost so much that decided to not lose anything else. She closed her borders to not anyone else go away, she ploted to create a land of eternity so everything stays the same for ever and nothing could be lost again Her "personal challenge" was to learn to lose and to accept that she will probably lose more along her life Nahida, or in this case Rukkhadevata, is glutony: she was hungry for knowledge, she even created a machine that "devoured peoples dream", but she had gone far, she ate the forbiden fruit and brought a curse upon the land and upon herself Her "personal challenge" is to be more moderated, she kinda goes towards this way when she shutdown the Akasha Furina, or in this case Focalor, is envy: the oceanids were envy of the humans, so much that they wanted to become them. They entire nation is a (teathrical) play of "pretending to be human". Her "personal challenge" was to abandon her dream, she coulnd't be a human as she desired, she couldn't even be an oceanid... She had to let go her desire for others to be able to fufil it Murata is wrath: Natlan is said to be a land of war and battles, probably something stimulated by the previous archon, also the "Teyvat chapter teaser" call her "God of war" My guess is that the archon challenge will be related to bring peace among the nation and appease their wrath in some way Tsaritsa is lust: the "Teyvat chapter tease" say she's a god with no love left for her people, maybe she only have desire and lust now, we know she has some kind of "Lust for power", or peharps she loves her people so much that she wants to "free" them of whatever Teyvat is Her personal challenge could be something along the line of "stop seeying her people/army as things to be used and start seeing them as individuals" Well, that's my take on this matter ^^

My theory around each Genshin nation/archon is indicative of a "flavour" of sin. If I were to guess, at this stage, it would be like this: 1. Venti - Gluttony (self explanatory, the lil drunkard, along with the rest of the nation, "freedom" almost give everyone an excuse to indulge) 2. Zhongli - Greed (I think this is a bit tenuous, but he was the god of money... but perhaps is redeemed) 3. Ei - Sloth (literally hid away for centuries and did nothing, Eternity is an unwillingness to change) 4. Nahida - Envy (not Nahida herself, but the desert king envied the gods, the academia envied the gods, both succeeded/almost messed the nation up due to their envy) 5. Furina - Pride (she's blinded by her own importance, the nation itself seems to take pride in itself at it's splendour) leaving 6. Natlan - Wrath (it's a warring nation... makes sense!) 7. Tsaritsa - Lust (not sexual though, more the Fatui's lust for power/control has been constant throughout)

Furina was never prideful on purpose. She actually had very little self esteem. She appears prideful but pride is not her sin. Someone on reddit once mentioned that Furina can represent lust because her title Regina of All Waters is a reference to the whore of Babylon. Furthermore lust with regards to Furina can refer to a lust for life because the one thing she wanted most was to experience humanity in all its splendor in a way all she really wanted was to live.

i see everyone else doing it so imma do it too but I'll try to be quirky and different (keyword: TRY) Venti - Envy just my opinion but, taking the form of an old friend can't just be for mourning right? literally becoming someone isn't just rooted in pure yearning. I watched a madoka magica animatio of brutus and their take was that Homura wanted to BE Madoka and that makes sense really. For Venti I feel it's more rooted in Idolization of this dead friend which led him to choosing to take his form. Focalors - Greed Had her cake and ate it too. Wanting to defy the heavenly principles and saving fontaine AND becoming a human. I chose it over envy for her because, unlike venti, she actually got what she wanted but she still forced furina to act for 500 years. she wanted the best for her people no matter what the cost and we'll have to wait to find out if furina's suffering will be enough. Ei - Pride bestie gave up her nation to a puppet she created and was so confident this was the right choice she made sure even she in the future couldn't change her mind until a certain someone chose to pop in and btch slap her to wake her up Nahida - Sloth ANOTHER HEADCANON because it's more her lack of ability to fight and her focusing more on gaining knowledge, which is kinda her whole thing ig. She was trapped, isolated in a literal cage, unable to perform her duties as an archon fo literal centuries, uut I think she may have given up in between those years. I say that before the traveller came, she *had* no hope in winning over the akademiya nd just, gave up. I say that because the feeling of isolation and loneliness is worse than a lot of us can think. Helplessness ccould have ruined her if she wasn't an archon, especially when she's as developed as a genius child. Heck, being a genius means she had it worse. Knowing very well you can't do anything is worse than not knowing you were supposed to do anything. The fact that she knew what was happening probably caused her to just give up. Zhongli - Pyro Archon - (Blood)Lust We haven't even met her yet but the thought of someone with an unhinged desire for war and blood (Ginger) sounds very fit for them. Also, war for the sake of war sounds very pyro archon and the absence of a goal in the shedding of blood other than victory or honorable death is girl dinner in and of itself. Tsaritsa - Wrath I tried putting wrath in anyone else but wrath is uncontrollable anger, but anger at what? No other archons have this trait, other than of course our controversial ice queen here. Her wrath directed at Celestia has caused her to go blind with rage and wreak havoc among the people of teyvat, like a tyrant kind of. Because of her wish for revenge, she wishes for nothing other than to see the island in the sky fall, and with her gaze fixed on the heavens, she seems to not notice what's happening with her people and the horrors they've done to achieve her goals. thank u for reading my ted talk

My first thoughts (before watching the video): Venti - Gluttony (abandons his duty as an archon to drink) Zhongli - Lust (lust for Childe, I mean tea and finery) Raiden - Sloth (hides in the Plane of Euthymia rather than exist in the world) Nahida - Envy (envious of other Gods' power and leadership, lack of that confidence in herself) Furina - Pride (at least, her outward persona) Murata - Wrath (god of war I think, I don't actually know anything else about them) Tsaritsa - Greed (trying to steal all the gnoses)

After the video I stand by my initial thoughts, although I think I can refine my reasoning for Zhongli. I think he represented lust more strongly in the past, during the Archon war, when he fought against numerous other gods to claim the place of the Geo Archon. At the time of the story I think he's paying for that sin after having to rule for so long, and is now just tired of the position he lusted after.
