What a move by Audi to derive the engine from the V10 rather than using the same 4.2 in B7 RS4. What a freaking noise! Putting aside the 80s and 90s inline 5, this is probably the most characterful engine in Audi's lineup. An instant "modern classic" for me, beside the E92 of course (a bit too soon to call them classics? Maybe, maybe not...)
@TheCarCrush Жыл бұрын
Honestly I'd slept on this engine entirely until now and....wow...it's addictive. I nearly bought an E90 back in the day and kinda wish I had although knowing me, if I had, I'd have sold it by now! Too early to call them classics? I guess so, but these V8's are an era we'll not see again, so they're headed for that status for sure. Thank you for watching!

@ThatGuyPal888 ай бұрын
One good thing about that move is that because the components were made to handle almost 200hp more than and the car is making, the engine is extremely reliable compared to other Audi models!

Bought an almost new rs5 v8 in red this year. 20k miles run. Removed the center resonator. Sounds insane both from outside and inside the cabin. Advice to all car guys - Get this car while you can. It will surely start to go up in price later.
@Madness133711 ай бұрын
Damn 20k miles is insane for a v8 RS5, congrats on the find. I bought mine with 100k about a year ago and I still can't get enough of it. The sound is just fantastic, and if you want your exhaust to be a tad bit louder without buying a whole new system for 3k+, what I did on top of removing the center resonator for an x-pipe is I also swapped out the 2 small downpipe resonators with Vibrant 1792 resonators. This made a difference exactly how I hoped it would and now the sound is just perfect, not too loud and not too quiet. The car is a beast and will surely go up in value with time.

@@Madness1337 deleting the center resonator has made it pretty damn loud. Does it get considerably louder after further deleting the 2 small downpipe resonators?
@tylerevans226110 ай бұрын
As another b8.5 rs5 owner, I Agree
@Madness133710 ай бұрын
@@crossplanev8 Honestly before I got the Vibrant resonators I did some research into just fully deleting them and found out that it would indeed become very loud if you delete both the center and small resonators. When I bought the car it already came with the x-pipe instead of the center resonator but I wanted it a bit louder, so replacing the small downpipe resonators with Vibrant ones did the trick. It became just a bit louder and more pronounced without adding any drone, in fact at low RPM it sounds the same but when I step on the gas it screams a lot more. Or even at cold start I could tell that it got louder, but not obnoxious or too loud imo.

@@Madness1337Low mileage RS5’s aren’t that rare. I’ve seen quite a few come up for sale with mid to low 20k miles. I even saw one a few years ago that had 5k miles on it. I think some were second cars. I also noticed when I bought my car there were quite a few that had multiple owners within a short period. My car had 2 owners within the first 4 years from when it was new. I saw some that even had 3 or 4.

I've had it from 2017 till now. Zero issues, I've been going to my RS specialist for maintenance religiously. Aside from the factory brake rotors early wear and warp, which I replaced it with the ECS butterfly brake rotors that looked exactly like the factory and works better on the street. This car is a perfect daily with a very usable trunk space and backseats.

Zero issues is impressive. Mine has had a few issues that were all common parts that fail on RS5’s. Power steering control module was the most recent but fortunately was covered under warranty since it was a known problem.

@@johnl.38Spend a lot in gas. When I first got mine I was driving it pretty hard for the first few weeks and was going through gas like crazy. It’s a small tank too so you can fill up twice a week sometimes. Factory brake rotors are expensive but fortunately there are some good aftermarket options now. DSG and sports diff maintenance can be a little pricey but if you do it yourself it’s not bad. My car has had only 3 things go wrong which were common issues with these cars. The thermostat/housing. PCV valves. Power steering control module which required the whole rack to be replaced. Audi extended the warranty on this since it’s a common part to fail due to a design flaw.

I own same RS5 for a few years, chasis definitely needs some work to make it a pleasure in turns: Ohlins R&T, ECS lower control arms, X-brace, strut tower brace (Ultra Racing) + canyon run 15, transmission/diff mount inserts is basically the recipe to make it handle gooood despite the weight. I have it on Cup2, also helps but probably ps4s is enough. And JHM stage 2 is a must!! At this price level, even after upgrades, you won’t buy anything that comes even close to this level of pleasure and usability. Real problem with this car is it’s hard to find straight-handed people who could service it properly at a reasonable price (I mean in the states).

Not a bargain to run. I own one. The cost of the car is the only 'bargain'. All maintenance is usual Audi RS pricing. Expect mechatronic faults on early cars, usually around $5k to fix, brake rotors are around $600 each corner, tyres too. Ideally you want to carbon clean it every 20k too as they soot up easy. Its fun, its fast and it looks lovely but don't think you can just jump from your every day box and expext similar bills.
