Weight will not be an issue especially if it's under 1000 lbs, This thing will rock! Great job on this build and look forward to seeing it start up and getting out on the maiden voyage

My 2011 SeaDoo GTX iS 260hp weighs 980 lbs dry and is pretty quick even at that weight. Yours will move just fine at 900lbs with a V8

Now imagine if the gearbox holds together and spins the prop fast enough and then he does heads and a cam and makes 500 ish, I think it would be a good idea to do a belt drive instead of the gearbox, quieter, far less heat, not gearbox to possibly grenade and if it does fail, a belt breaking would be pretty mild he comparison and he could even keep one handy with a few tools onboard to change it on the water instead of being dead in the water with possibly hull damage but I’m excited to see how the gearbox works out for him, should sound awesome at least, this is a pretty cool project, I’m impressed at the weight, I’m sure it’ll gain around 150 lbs with a full fuel cell, wiring, electronics, cooling system, and the rest of the misc stuff, still should be a rocket

Nice ! That's not much extra weight at all ! I was thinking maybe 2-300 lbs more. 100 lbs in that beast is nothing. I'm guessing that it won't even be noticeable considering it is designed to be ridden with a passenger. The engine weight is nice and low, unlike the weight of a passenger. It's coming together. When I saw you cut an angle on the exhaust, I immediately thought "glad I didn't weld then on" then you said it :) Great progress. Well done.

The weight will make a huge difference. It all depends on the vertical center of gravity and if the weight is centered in the lengt. It won’t sink, but it makes a big difference!

An aluminum block LS is 100 pounds lighter than the iron block LS so it would be easy to swap one in if weight is an issue. Nice work I am liking this build, and good luck with the first run.
@dillee99883 жыл бұрын
I can't believe the difference in weight is so small, but you should be fine anyway, a few other guys have built V8 jet ski's, and they are floating fine. I would if I were you put as much buoyancy in the ski as possible in case of a roll over. But I can't waite to see and hear it run. You are doing an awesome job. It's going to be like a Boss Hoss motorcycly, totally rediculously awesome. I'm a V8 fan.

I prefer having a passenger on my FZR. makes it more fun when hooning around. Digs into the water better. So I don't think the weight will be a drawback

I here’d you mention to put the O2 sensor bung in that lower pipe. Won’t it be wet? You may need the O2 sensor in one of the runners coming out of the dry exhaust like just out from the head? Not sure, but just wanted to mention it. Great build! Thanks for the video

I'm not sure if you have thought about it but if you have seen some of the drag boats they have a water-cooled exhaust that use a bung in the exhaust to run a tube that pushes water into the exhaust to help cool it

The reason for the hull inside is not simetrical from factory is because they calculated the rotation of the engine and propeller and compensate this rotation. If they did not do this the jetsky will run tilt of one side
@rickems88633 жыл бұрын
FANTASTIC RESULTS, I swear it would have been heavier. This thing is going to fly.
@mp67563 жыл бұрын
Love the progress I started following along thinking this would never work out. At this point I think your gonna pull it off. I like the aluminum headers, but I'm not to sure about the temperatures of the exhaust. The o2 sensor getting flushed with the h2o might be a bit of trouble for the ecu to deal with. Good progress

Throw some extra spray foam insulation inside every nook and cranny once it's back together, and I'll approve it! No worries there! Lol

With enough impeller pitch i could see this thing cruising around 35-40 at 3000rpm, it certainly has the torque for it. Wonder what kind of run time/distance you’ll get out of this thing.
@techdoctor99823 жыл бұрын
love the idea but an engine mount without any vibration damper isn't going to stay in there for very long - the damping isn't just to insulate noise from the hull but more to insulate the vibrations from shaking the fixtures out of place - whether you live long enough riding it for this to happen with a v8 in there is another matter :)
@seanthompson67203 жыл бұрын
it's definately gonna sit lower in the water but a big jet ski like that has no problem with 500+ lbs of riders, think it's all gonna come down to dialing in the right gear ratio in the transmission. it looks like right now it's around 1:2 or 1:3 but you have a ton of torque so you can go bigger 1:4 maybe 1:5 if the box has room for it
@robh873 жыл бұрын
Its gonna handle like running double on it but a bit better as the extra weight comparable too a second rider will be low in the boat, as opposed to dangling in the wind up high. ImO its gonna carve really well and have tons of tourque from idle to WOT if you dare to go there. Am curious the prop you have chosen? Dual grind like i have in my jet boat or what did you come up with?
@rhyswilliams6953 жыл бұрын
I was expecting it to weigh more. 100lbs is the weight of a second passenger, which these things are designed to carry, so should be fine. Nice work!
@kimkeam20943 жыл бұрын
How did you go with the balance compared to a factory FZR? With and without fuel with a large tank could create an issue. Love the work!
@sleepinfocus023 жыл бұрын
if it hasnt been asked already..... how are you going to run 02 sensors in a wet exhaust? they would have to be in a jacketed section but that also has to be far enough past the main collection point in order for the ecu to capture an accurate reading on each cylinder pulse. I dont know where that point might be for you.

100lbs, what's that, an extra person? It'll be fine. What LS is that? I think only the LS2 had ally block? We don't have much LS in the UK but I put an LS2 into my Mazda RX7 and it was inane. In a ski is just mental

It wil not sink, i had a 2009 fzr and we went with 3 people on on, but it was a little sluggish and not well balanced. This project will work because you have more weight but also more horses.

I think the extra weight could be offset performance wise by adding a couple turbos. I think 1200 hp should be your goal; nothing exceeds like excess! 😏

its a great idea and cant wait to see it finished not sure that the LS is going to be so kind the that hull without any engine damping, ie sat on rubber mounts. its going to want to twist like a bitch. nope i dont this its going to sink at all, these are designed to carry 3 people so adding 150lbs is nothing keep on the good work fuck the haters!

Weight increase is not that big, but what about weight distribution/balance fore-aft. Even still, it's currently in par with a passenger onboard and like placed equally.

Seeing how there is no trans. oil volume is huge. Needs about ten qts. May want to check it out. He also mentioned the name of the company that makes one. Hate to see ya cook that engine on the first day out.

you fogot the weight of the rider, the weight of the gas at 6.3 pounds per gallon, and weight of handle bars, and jet drive, and electronics.. honestly, thinking you need to add about 300-400 pounds to that total weight. so you may be ok, but likely your gonna want that aluminum block for the extra 100 pound free up, and to help with corrosion. but just my internet half cent of thoughts.
