Axle ratio 3:15 for automatic vs 3.73 for the manual is moot in modern 6..7..8..9..10 speed automatics when you compare it to a manual,,as the gear ratio in the transmission for 1st gear in automatics is lower than the the 6 speed manual thus eliminating the rear axle ratio by tenfold. 6 speed transmission 1st gear ratio is 3.25 10 speed transmission 1st gear ratio is 4.70 You would need a axle ratio of 4.73's in the manual to be side by side the 10 speed automatic!! Really disapointed with your lastest Mustang vs Mustang test. The manual Mustang Gt is not sick its just allot slower because the manual is that much slower than an Auto. The 3.55 gear Mustang GT with the 10 speed auto is the fastest version from the factory and that is the one you should have pitted against your Auto Gt with the 3:15. All autos on the Mustangs are faster than any manual Mustang. If you guys would do a little research you would know this before doing this test with a false narrative about gears. No gear that factory offers in a manual Mustang is going to overcome the 10 speed autos advantage. What you missed is us finding out the difference between an 3:15 gear Auto and 3:55 Auto. Motor Trend tested a performance pack auto and the auto is allot faster than a manual performance pack. A auto 3:55 gear base GT will be faster than your 3:15 gear auto GT if both have the Auto in the same trim. You missed it guys would have been nice to see the difference between the 3:55 and 3:15's. You look bad with a test like this when everyone knows that the manual is great deal slower than the Auto in the Mustang. The manual is almost a 1/2 second slower to 60 and in the 1/4 mile too compared to the Auto. Do your research guys it makes you look silly like you know nothing about modern performance cars. If you do a test between a base non performance pack and a base performance pack both with autos than it would have been a valid test to see the difference. The gears do make a difference when both have the same drivetrain.

The only difference was the exterior color. If I just drove mine, I never noticed any problems. If I drove hers the same day, hers felt just a bit better. Like the folks building it were in a better mood. We never raced because we never left at the same time so I don’t know if it was faster. Definite difference though.

From the time I spent in an S650 premium Mustang GT. I didn't find it filled with plastic as you kept mentioning. The 10R80 is the transmission choice for drag racing plus the premium is a more comfortable daily driver with the heated and cooled seats along with other included options like it's tires and bigger brakes. It's possible the base car needs a computer upgrade which Ford recently completed via Wi-Fi. So instead of complaining. Take it to a dealership. The nice part about purchasing the base is you can add your own bolt on performance parts when you have the extra money to improve it. Quarter mile times. FYI. I recently priced a new charger RT wit a 5.7. Cloth seats without power. A terrible decade old interior that had a $60,000 price. That's higher than the higher equipped Mustang GT premium. I would take the Mustang any day of the week when it's about features and the Gen 4 Coyote V8. I think you guys would complain if you found a bag of $100 bills because one was wrinkled.

Go look at the prices of a 2001 Mustang GT vs a 2001 Ford F150 SuperCrew 4x4. The F150 was ~30% more expensive which definitely is a better reflection of production costs. The mustangs have become more sportier in the sense that its an all rounder car
@GooglePixelGoogle5 ай бұрын
The Mustang was never really a muscle car, it was a pony car. The muscle car was a midsized vehicle with a company's larger performance V8 engine, think GTO, Chevelle, Fairlane, Torino, and 442. The Camaro, Firebird, Cuda/Challenger (debateable), AMX, and Mustang were pony cars. The pony car is an American car classification for affordable, compact, highly styled coupés or convertibles with a "sporty" or performance-oriented image. Common characteristics include rear-wheel drive, a long hood, a short decklid, a wide range of options to individualize each car and use of mass-produced parts shared with other models. There is much debate among enthusiasts about the exact definition of a pony car, and what differentiates the vehicle from a muscle car. The general consensus is that pony cars are smaller and more refined than muscle cars. A few intermediate-size vehicles, such as the Dodge Challenger, may be considered to belong to both categories.

@joshreynolds7296 ай бұрын
Truth, also they can’t drive these 10 speeds either 🤣 because they make more power than they ever used to. Idk how old you are but the crowd killer meme never existed when cars came stock with less power. A GT used to be 260 hp in the early 2000s. Now 486-500 😂. Truly good times though right. Crazy how good autos have come now. Love manual but those 10r80s do wonders for a small displacement high reving v8 keeping power band. Used to be the manual was better and more fun plus cheaper.

I dont think its just gearing and gear ratios I think the manual Mustang manage horse power and torque in a different way. Its an electronic thing to protect the manual gear box for the long run.

The coyote v8 prefers higher rpm to produce power so the 10 speed would keep the rpm in the happy spot. Same with the f150 it needs higher rpms to tow up hill

Guys, take the cars to a weight station and see what the difference is in weight between the standard Mustang and the Premium with performance pack. You should also take a dark horse against the standard one you used here not that the dark horse is better, but the tranny and gear ratios are different, then take a GT performance pack car with the auto and the base mustang with the auto. I think that will paint the better picture for the comparisons.

@Cloud300006 ай бұрын
Old men have come to realize that sticks are great on empty back/bendy roads and race tracks, but suck in any traffic and roads covered in traffic lights where we end up doing 95% of our non-highway driving. On the highway without traffic, you are always in the same gear so it makes no difference. My first 3 vehicles were sticks, but I got sick of constantly playing with the clutch in slow bumper to bumper traffic; even had to raise my seat so I could stretch out my leg to avoid cramping after constant clutch manipulation. I’d like to get an old manual to play with on the weekend, but I will never use one as a daily in traffic again.

The 6 speed manual Mustang GT will never beat a 10 speed automatic GT when both cars have a good launch no matter how good the driver is in the manual car. The automatic puts power down more efficiently and with less loss of momentum between each shift. The manual will always be more fun to drive though.

That's really something how the automatic just walks away from the manual, as technology has reversed the manual vs automatic performance. I for one would still buy a manual over the automatic just for the fun of driving it. These new Mustang prices are getting way out of hand, it's hard to believe the GT performance package is close to what I paid for my GT350.
