I got a Valentine V1 when I bought my E39 M5 in 2000. I hardwired it to my sunroof power supply and used a suction cup mount like your previous configuration. When I got my 2017 M3, I upgraded my V1 and also got a Blendmount rearview mirror mount. I had an auto shop do the install and learned after the fact that Blendmount sent me the wrong hardwire tap for a V1, so the shop ran a cable to the V12 outlet below the glovebox. The cable's behind the trim so it's not visible at all. Very happy with the mirror mount, would have preferred the direct tap into the mirror power supply. But never have a need for the V12 under the glove box, so no biggie. I know the V1 is old school and its features haven't changed much in over 20 years, but it does the trick.

What size of allen key is it, I got mine installed by pro due to the nature of my set-up, but then one bolt fell off, I didn't even have the allen key size that fits it.

Just ordered a R3, replacing a Escort 9500ix. But, I have a 2019 VW Atlas SEL P. No way to attach a mirror mount (already tried mounting the Escort). Not enough room between the mirror and where it connects to the pivot spot on the cars windshield mount (that holds a bunch of sensors). Ill run a wire from the fuse box up and over to it instead. Looks like I'm stuck using one of the suctions mounts that comes with the detector.

That’s correct. It worked for me. We are talking about the wire that looks like a telephone plug right? I bought two: one for escort and one for Valentine. They were identical and both worked interchangeably
