For me it's lucatiel in dark souls 2. Watching her start as a proud warrior of mirrah, throughout the game slowly succumbing to the curse, then at the end of her quest line, she says to you "my name is lucatiel. I beg of you, remember my name. For I may not myself..." then she dies off screen like most npcs when you reload the area. It crushes my soul every time.

I felt bad I had to fight him too. Cool and interesting character. I also felt bad that my Uchigatana +25 Unsheathe stunned him pretty quick in like 2or 3 hits and I killed him before he finished his war cry to start the fight 😅, he didn't even move from the spot he was standing. I forgot about we get his innards as an item though. I need to bring them to Jar-Bairn in Jarburg (yes, I looked up what the hell you do with the innards while typing this).

I wish they had made him fight better. I know it’s a part of the character theme and all that, but he really only has jar moves and some weak punch attacks. He doesn’t feel unique, despite being the most unique npc. Part of the tragedy I suppose….
