It's actually really cathartic having his questline end the way it did. Unlike most soulsborne NPCs where you feel bad leading them towards a death you had no control over, there's some fulfillment in helping someone realize their life's goal despite you being the direct cause of their death. He went fron someone who faced much self-doubt over their capability as a warrior to someone who takes pride in dying as one at the hands of the warrior he respects the most. I don't think Alexander would have it any other way.

@@KratosisGod I agree with you on that one. Her talks of killing her father 'again' was rather 'uncaring' IMO. Plus you don't ever fight Siegmeyer; there is a chance that you can finish his quest-line (all the way to the Chaos Eaters' poison pit at the end), NOT free his daughter, and yet never fight against a Hollowed Siegmeyer at any time afterwards no matter how unfinished his daughter's own questline is. Also not sure what 'her mother's message' was suppose to be, but her being nonchalant about 'rekilling' her father again seemed rather odd. But then again, there are a lot of odd things (and inconsistencies) within the Souls Series... which you know, being undead means that someone is suppose to get up 'again' after they have died (and many people talk about it, so its part of the lore), but everyone perma-dies for some reason. I love the parallels that the Great Jar Alexander’s narrative draws between his kind, the living Jars, and our kind, the Tarnished. As we see again and again, to simply exist outside of the Erdtree’s dogma of life is a fundamental affront to the Erdtree itself. Yet despite this life finds its own ways to continue to exist, and even to defend itself against whatever threatens it. It’s obvious that the life cycle of living jars evolved from the tarnished whose flesh fills their hulls. And while they share a common need to defend themselves against a world that is hell set against ending their existence, the Jars must do so without the Erdtree’s a ability to turn their runes into strength. So of course our Cuz’s had to develop their own way to become strong enough to confront the threats within lands between. Just like we fight enemies and gather runes to rest and have our maiden concert them into strength, Alexander’s journey plainly mimics this. The twist being that without a grace to rest at Alexander relied on us to pass his runes, or as it’s known more broadly in video games - his experience, on to Jarbairn, the next Great Jar. And so like that Jarbairn becomes his uncle while also being something a bit more, to continue the cycle and protect his people such that their own way of life can continue. The part that really gets me is that just like how we can’t complete our journey without Melina, The Great Jar Alexander cannot continue his without us. And this is just a beautiful way to prove that Elden Ring is not about our destiny to become Elden Lord, it’s about the friends we meet along the way.

Man, I kinda wish From soft wouldn't always kill the characters I like in their games. Though some of these stories were actually really well told in their own subtle way. Alexander and Blaidd where easily the most likable characters in this game. As far as what the beliefs where around being a true stalwart warrior that these tales drew from I can't say it wasn't portrayed too unfairly. These tales where meant to inspire bravery and conviction and teach people how to be light hearted as well as strong good people. These two characters showed the best of these qualities that made me love the old poems and stories that our game drew from and is set in. They where truly loyal and worthy allies that I would count as my friends. Each earned an honorable place in the weaving of their fates. Something any true warrior could ever ask for is an honorable life and in many cases an honorable death, as we see in characters like Radahn. (Still one of the coolest bosses they ever made In these games) In Alexander's case it was precisely because he grew and bettered himself because of us and because of this fire in a warriors heart the olden stories are so fond of. After seeing these rather bitter sweet questlines to their conclusions it actually spurned me all the more to earn my own place as Elden Lord at the end of the game, so as to see that none of it was at all in vain. If the importance of honor is a thing in this game for characters lorewise, and to me as a player the way it is here, they surely earned a place at my roundtable when all is said and done.

Alexander's quest is to fulfill the dreams of the fallen warriors within him who wanted to be great. I think that's why he ultimately decides to take us on in battle, he can't satisfy their goals, he'll surely die trying, so what better way to go out then by the hand of a friend who fought at your side. From the time in Sen's Fortress to open the gate to him being stuck in Anor Londo and being cornered by the Silver Knight. We slowly began to steal his confidence and in the end he wanted to be a good friend and sacrifice himself for us within Izalith. Yet again we steal his confidence just like we do with Alexander. I have never unequipped his talisman since I finished his quest, he has been with me on 2 NG+ runs and now the DLC.

As I near the end of my first play through in Elden ring, the only boss left to kill is melania , the world feels so empty and alone, everyone has died… except my trusty sword Smith and my spirit tuner…

It's fitting that Alexander drops a piece of himself, when in his existence all he did was gather pieces of others

My favorite moment with Alexander was when we were fighting the Fire Giant. You know how in his 2nd phase he is basically crawling, well he was almost done and all that was needed was a few hits. That's when all of the sudden I saw Alexander positioned himself under the Giant and just fire uppercut him! It staggered him and I just finished him off. Such a great and memorable NPC, bittersweet ending tho

I only saw Alexander at the very beginning, & The Festival. Did not see him after that. He must have gotten sidetracked, found a jar-maiden, & fathered some baby jars. May he live a long, prosperous life, & become that "pot 'o gold" for an eternity!

Shards of Alexander help me beat Elden Beast... Thx Alexander, you may think you're not but you're one of the greatest honorable Warrior in The land's between history.

I've managed to give Bloodborne a pause, but Gehrman's music in this sparking it up once again. Amazing video as always, though!

Awww. Watching this makes me think of Wally from the Gen 3 Pokemon games. Although he is your "rival," he is still excited to keep testing his strength against you. And just like Alexander, you find him in the later stages of the game, meaning he is becoming just as powerful as you in order to meet you in those later zones. I always felt like Wally wasn't really a rival, but a good friend where you both grow as a character from knowing one another.

The bloodborne ost at the end really kicks in, funny how the lore of gehrman (an old friend by your side) is similar to alexander.

In my first place of Eldon ring my first interaction with Alexander was actually in the Gael tunnel and that was How I learned of the Radahn Festival. After the festival though, I never saw him again
