For instance though, Hitler was funded by, the Rockefellers and I don't know who else. I''m sure a lot of bombs were dropped in places soldiers felt like dropping them, that weren't necessarily ordered to be dropped by high command. The same goes for blitzes from warplanes shooting down at the ground.. the elites were protected throughout the whole war IMO, cause they move the pieces at the top.

Seeing Mentmore Towers again brought back many happy memories as I used to stay at The Stable Yard B & B backing on to the grounds for 2 years back in the mid 80s. It was here that some of the Royal Mews carriages were stored back in WW2. Used to spend many a summer's evening walking around the grounds & enjoying the views. At the time the sunken Italian garden was still maintained & could still go in the house (mostly empty of artefacts) but still looked smart particularly when spruced up for the summer ball. They were always filming there, adverts like Timotei Shampoo, an American version of Florence Nightingale (played by Jaclyn Smith). The Earl of Rosebery's Derby winners Ocean Swell & Blue Peter are buried on the grass verge as indicated by the plaques. Several of the trees along the main drive had plaques indicating they were planted by Victorian & Edwardian royalty. At one time Mentmore, Waddesdon Manor & Halton Hall could all see each other across the Vale of Aylesbury.

It shows how wealth and collecting “things” is almost a pointless pursuit. All that influence and power ends up stored in a forgotten room gathering dust, just as they have turned to dust themselves. As we all will eventually
@mv19912 жыл бұрын
It's not a pointless pursuit. You can enjoy your material possessions while you're alive. Just because something doesn't last forever, that doesn't mean it doesn't have worth. But I agree that we shouldn't get too attached to the things of this world, because nothing is truly ours and we're gonna lose it all.
@jayc56982 жыл бұрын
@@mv1991 I agree with both of you. But considering how these possessions that can worth thousands are simply sitting there, rotting, could be used to benefit the humanity, it simply a display of decadence and power. Though, we might remind ourselves that daily too, considering we waste a lot of pointless money on pointless stuff we throw away. Anyone would benefit to be less materialistic, it's just that their impact is a lot higher.

What a place! It's obvious they still do a bit of upkeep, the landscaping and security (probably the gardener wearing more than one hat!) One wonders why they let such a beautiful place slowly succumb to rot and ruin? It took a lot of savvy to see those rooms inside, they were very cool. Especially the art work and mirrors. Mad amounts of money have been dumped into this place, the furnishings fit for royalty! I have to say well done getting through those small areas underneath, I'm claustrophobic and have seen far too many vampire movies, where they sleep in the cellar during the daylight hours, so crawling underneath there would have been a hard no for me! Then all I could think of was those pipes and cables running throughout and how much it would stink to have to plumb and upgrade the wiring! I mean someone had to do that already! Imagine have the fortitude to complete a job like that, mad respect to whoever got the jobs done! What an awesome home, thanks for taking us along :)!

There is also another Titian copy next to it nearer the entrance. Not a professional art historian but if I were to guess, most of the paintings in this room are copies by the Flemish school (at best they were by unknown assistants/students of the likes of Rubens and Van Dyke). This caught our attn. We could write 100pp about it and the implications. We were assoc with the sale of the contents and they of course reflect most of what is wrong with the human being. The stuff is awful. That place was built using huge sums of money when millions were dying of starvation, disease, poverty. Kids of 6 yrs age were working in horrific factories. The later owner was supposed to be worth 3 billion. Apparently he was convicted of rape. He luckily went broke. It was also owned by a 'religion'. We are not surprised by any of this, we would describe our feelings as that of alarm and disgust. We changed the way we think,feel.behave as a result of being approached by victims of the estab and the public. It took our advisors ten yrs to turn us around because at the time we were involved in Art Sport Drama BBC etc. We read the 'Times'. We 'knew' what the society was 'like'. Sad to see places like this decaying. Good or bad its still history and should be preserved. Theres been a few places purchased and a you tube channel started to show the renovation/preservation process and a large portion of the money used was from money the channel provided. It would be awesome to see more places rescued.

I'd say it isn't left to decay. Looks completely abandoned for sure but there is effort put into keeping it from decaying. Probably heated to a minimum to keep the plaster from falling. The garden is picture perfectly kept.

Fabulous! It would make a good museum site. I find myself imagining what it would be like in its day full of life. Opulent parties with the sky as the limit. Even the one room you were in seems so special and teaming with the life it once had. The antiques are everywhere with masterpiece paintings strewn about. They have soo much they just leave it there. It looked kept up as far as the furniture and the paintings, the grounds as well looked kept. Someone must still love it. I love it. Shame we could not see the rest. The bedrooms up stairs must be majestic. The views from the balconies with the fox hunts and the like. Servants all about. Meal time with everyone dressed to the tea all day. The women in jewels. Almost like a fairy tale.

They have various properties of this size and significance in Buckinghamshire alone. Waddesdon Manor was chosen to be fully renovated and conserved since it was the only property built by Rothschild family that had intact, complete art collections. It's another French style manor worth of visiting, if not in person, than via virtual tour that is available online. The family had specific taste (or the lack of it, your choice) named 'Le Goût Rothschild' - still it's remarkably well taken care of place with impressive art collection and frequent art installations.

@@blueice011 They must be keeping these lavish estates for future generations.
@blueice0112 жыл бұрын
@@inspiredmessenger As far as I'm aware, only Waddesdon is properly taken care of. The rest of the houses are maintained with minimal possible investing, since even the basic upkeep of these properties must cost a fortune. It's part of their family legacy and as long as elderly family members, first of all Jacob Rothschild are in charge, they won't be entirely neglected. I'm not sure what future brings, though. It's less possible that family known for ability to invest money wisely would make irrational investments, regardless the sentiment and family history.

Fun Fact: The house in this video is called Mentmore. It was the Wayne Manor only in Batman Begins before it gets destroyed in the movie. In the second movie there is no Wayne Manor. Then in The Dark Knight Rises, after the reconstruction of Wayne Manor, Wollaton Hall was used instead of Mentmore. In real life Mentmore's architecture was heavily inspired by the older Wollaton Hall.

This is Mentmore Towers. I lived here for about 6 months in the 90s. It was also used in Eyes Wide Shut, Velvet Goldmine (I was there when they were filming that) and many other films and TV shows. It was owned by the Transcendental Meditation movement for a number of years until it was sold, I think in the early 2000s the guy who bought it was going to turn it into a hotel but it looks like it’s just been left to fall apart.

@jaijiАй бұрын
@@philalexander4672no. Never anything to do with George Harrison. The Transcendental Meditation organisation bought it in the late 70s and it was their UK headquarters until they sold it. The Natural Law Party had offices within the building. Harrison briefly had Natural Law Party involvement but had nothing to do with its funding (apart from organising a fundraiser concert) and nothing to do with the funding of the original purchase of Mentmore Towers. He did, I believe, help the funding of the purchase of Bhaktivedanta Manor in Hertfordshire for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON or for the uneducated- Hari Krishnas).
