Today I'm testing out the As Seen on TV trimmer called Vacutrim, which includes a built-in vacuum to reduce or eliminate whiskers from the counter or sink.

The reason the Wahl is shaving longer is cause it’s using standard sizes for cutting, so a number 2 is actually 6mm, and a 1 is 3mm, the other trimmers measurement are in milimeters

Just curious, can you use the Vacutrim to vacuum up the trimmings on the counter it doesn't catch? In other words, does it double as a small vacuum as well?
@monhi64
@monhi64 Жыл бұрын
That would be a saving grace but I feel like it’d perform similarly and vacuum up part of the hair and you’d be fighting a never ending battle to finish it off. At that point a dedicated mini vacuum/Dustbuster would probably be more effective than a combo clipper/vacuum

It's probably not the same units. Whal would be in multiples or 1/8 of an inch and vaccum trim looks like it's in mm. 1/8 in is just over 3 mm. So he should have started with 6mm and then 3mm.
@monhi64
@monhi64 Жыл бұрын
@@frankb5728 which is a bit annoying, it would be much nicer to either use a consistent numbering method or just outright say the exact length. I thought each number was supposed to represent 1/8 of an inch but clearly not every brand is following the unwritten rules.

Ok: I agree, the dial is very convenient. I was packing for a trip, and instead of grabbing the big box with all the attachments I grabbed the vacuum trimmer. I did find it to be a little hard to use for a mustache, but when combined with the razors I packed anyways, I can do everthing I need while taking ip less luggage space. I like it too.

I use a Wahl Balding. You need to plug it in, it's heavy as hell and it has the ergonomics of a brick but it works marvelously. I should attach the hose of a regular vacuum cleaner to it for maximum rusticity. Lol
@monhi64
@monhi64 Жыл бұрын
I kind of liked the idea but I can’t help but feel like what’s the point if it still drops 1/3 of the hair. You still have to clean up, and it’s not really much easier to pick up a slightly smaller amount of hair. I just put down a previously used towel, then shake the hair off outside and wash the towel. Works well and the only extra step it adds is the quick shake outside, still gotta clean the towel either way

I love the vacuutrim, I really only use it on my head and it definitely gets almost 100% of the hair in the vacuum. Possibly because I’m balding but even the thick hair on the sides seem to be no match for the vacutrim. I highly recommend. Plus it’s cheaper than a lot of messy normal trimmers.
@BarryMcCawkiner
@BarryMcCawkiner Жыл бұрын
6:38 I would have to disagree. After the first round, they were definitely not the same. The vacutrim was noticeably closer after the first round. As someone else pointed out, the vacutrim numbers are the measurements in mm (2mm, 1mm, skin) while the Wahl is using standard sizes. I'm not sure if the instructions stated this, but this is definitely what it seems like. That being said, the vacutrim did a great job at vacuuming up the trimmed hairs, especially since it is an "As Seen On TV" product. I'll be interested in seeing it in a yearly update.

Had a vacuum trimmer from Phillips norelco, biggest flaw was then entire cutting blade assembly attached with 2 weak plastic tabs on each side and if you pulled it off or dropped it and broke those it was useless. If this works as well as that without that failure then it'll be worth the price.

EH, half left means I still have to do work cleaning up instead of just a quick single wipe with a cloth. I don't have facial hair but I do use a Body Groomer for manscaping. For what you paid for this product, my body groomer was about the same price but alas, body hair all over the place when finished and I use a real vacuum hose to clean up the hairs. I would say either the attachments aren't measured the same as the knob numbers, and/or the fact that it has a vacuum means it's standing the hairs up before cutting them, which would result in a closer trim. A normal trimmer is only cutting what sticks up enough on its own to be cut.

I have been using a Remington Vacuum Trimmer HKVAC-2000 for about 15 years. I love it, but it was discontinued a long time ago. It picks up more than 90% of the hair. They made a newer model, but I've heard it's not as good. When I let my hair grow out too long, I like to use it to trim my head hair down to stubble and use a razor to give me a close shave. I also have a bald head and a Van dyke. A Goatee is just the chin hair and no mustache. There is a whole thing with facial hair purists in naming of beards and mustaches, I don't understand it but I don't like getting them upset.

I've used vacuum trimmers for years and this is the first one that sounds like a vacuum. I was hoping you would have compared this to another vacuum trimmer but I'm not sure what's out there. One thing is (since I know how precise you are) it is "fewer" hairs not "less" as things you can count like hair or whiskers are fewer and things you can't count are less. Whiskers are a close call but in this instance, you are measuring them.

Just ordered the deluxe version using your link for the original normal version off amazon. I hope you still get the "trim"...from that sale even though it's not the same model. In my middle age I cut everything close because it all grows uneven now; plus male pattern baldness. Haircuts at a store are useless and feel like a waste of money. I don't like buzzing it all off (trimming) on a daily basis because of the MESS it makes with my hair clippers and separate beard trimmer. As a result after a week or two I look like a homeless person. I've literally had employees follow me around in "BevMo" before. The time it takes to clean it up is three times as long with all the fine/short hairs that fall everywhere. A vacuum design may make this more feasible (daily). I just hope it's designed to last (quality). Thanks for the review.

I’ve had a philips norelco version of the vacuum trimmer for more than a decade and they work great. They catch way more than 50%, but yes, they don’t catch all. I’d put it more at 80%. You should have actually dumped vacuumed up trimming to compare. One thing to note, the numbers on the vacuum trimmer are millimeters and the trimmer are guard settings which don’t equate to mm. Go back and look at your first pass and you’ll see that the vacuum is much closer of a trim.

Does it stay unclogged? My Dads razor keeps clogging up and he goes back to a straight Bic razor.

I had a vacuuming beard trimmer for a long time, the only reason I don't use it anymore is that the battery eventually died. The only downside I experienced, if you can call it that, was that they require the slightest bit more maintenance since you have to periodically dump out the whisker tray, on the other hand the reduced mess more than makes up for that. Vacuuming trimmers are a gimmick, but they're a gimmick that works.

The Vacumtrim seems to do a way better job than the regular one.

A #2 trimmer guard is "two" eighths of an inch, or roughly 6mm. The vacuum razor probably was using 1mm increments which is why they cut differently. (I guess)
