The Dyson DC08 can lose suction over time and cleaning the radix assembly really will help improve performance.

Really helpful ! I started Dysoning at 4:00 am (!!!) and, for any reason, decided it deserved cleaning. Dismantling was a nightmare till I found your tutorial... The parts are drying. 👏👏👏

7 years on and your videos are still hitting the sweet spot. Within a few hours I changed the filters, cleaned the radix assembly, cleaned the contact head and repaired the cord retract on my DC08 and it is now operating beautifully with excellent suction. Many thanks Alec!

I absolutely needed this. Didn't know my Dyson had to be reassembled that much. I did it all, just like you showed, which is very clear. I also put in two new filters and my Dysons power is back. Thank you so much.

Every couple of years, I watch this video to remind me how to clean my 20 year old DC08's gizzards. This advice & changing the filters at the same time, has ensured it works every bit as well now as when I bought it. Thanks mate.

I've owned my DC08 for about 16 years and I did clean the Radix once, but Never to this level. But even then, I noticed a drastic change in performance. Now that I've done it properly, I think it'll be like new. Also upgraded to Hepa Filter. thanks for the tutorials!

My DC08 had a motor failure that the shop where I bought it wanted like 120 EUR to fix. I found motors on the net for half of that price, but I wanted to see what the real problem was. Just dissembled the machine and found that one carbon had given up. Bought a pair of new carbons for 10 EUR and installed as of your excellent instructions. The machine started to work properly again. I saw then you explanations about cleaning the whole thing which was very easy again with your perfect instructions!!! Thanks a lot mate! You are a true champion!

Maaaate, Ive had my Dyson for 14 yrs, all I've ever done was clean the filter, and blown out this part with my compressor. Today I pulled it apart. OMG the build up of dirt was incredible. Now its sparkling clean, and I thank you for this video. The only thing I have to say is with the manifold, that also came apart, and was so clogged up. Cheers

Excellent video, thorough but to the point, I had my DC08 disassembled in 10 minutes, and it took about 45 minutes to clear away nearly 15 years of grime. Now just waiting for it to dry, but am sure the cleaning will do the trick as about 1/2 of the cyclones were blocked by long twisted and clumped hair. And finally found a use for the Torx drivers that have been taking up space in my tool kit. Many thanks and greetings from Prague, Czech Republic!

Dear Alec, thank you so much for this very useful video! You are my Dyson's GURU and you made me save money, plus the fun to make it! The harder part was to find a suitable long-reach Torx 15 key. Thanks a lot again and greetings from Italy!!!

Thank you for this guide! I took our DC08 apart following these instructions. The hardest part for me was getting the handle off but I used a hair dryer to make it a tiny bit more flexible and that did the trick. Thanks!

I just wanted to say thanks for your video, it was very clear and useful. It has taken me hours to do what you demonstrated in 5 minutes and I had to borrow some Torx screwdrivers but I think it's well worth it as someone just told me they paid nearly £100 to get their machine serviced and all I've had to buy was a new HEPA filter which arrived this morning! :)

I just found this video. It saved me buying a new Dyson. I have a Dyson DC08 "Animal" (originally purchased in the UK). Just the same as your Dyson (just that mine is purple). I followed everything in your video, there was only minor dirt build up in the Radix assembly, and changed the filters (they were really dirty, and nothing could be seen thru them. Anyway, it is all working better than ever now :) Thanks for the very helpful and instructive video.

Thanks so much for posting this. The DC08 had its first clean in 15 years. Had no idea how to change the filters either. Frankly I'm impressed with the Dyson holding out for so long. Hope the cleaning and filter replacement gives it a new lease on life. I used an extra long T15 torxdriver but 150mm long would do the trick I think. 😊

Thanks so much, really clear presentation, I watched, I bought a set of torque screwdrivers (long handled) for 4.99 and the most usefull tip was the part of the filter that you need to see light through...I couldn't even after washing. so I bought a new one for £3.50 and now 2 days later I am like one of the commenters below filthy... but my Dyson is clean and as good as new. Amazing difference.

Bought the DC08 15 years ago, NEVER cleaned it, today i did. It was no fun but tomorrow it will be like new. That vacuum is still running without issue, until today i sucked about 800 gramm of flour, that was just to much, well i just needed to clean the filters but still i disassambled it and just washed it all out. If this vacuum will stop working i will surely buy again a dyson and will pay premium price, because it is worth it!

I stripped my DC 8 this weekend and after a flush through with warm water , I put most of the components in the dishwasher on the lowest temp (45C) and the results were excellent. With clean filters fitted , the vacuum was almost as good as new. (P.s The dishwasher had a cleaning agent used on the highest temp(75C) afterwards. Didn't want to upset the missus).

The white manifold assembly is two parts and can be taken apart to get inside all the air channels. Gently prise all the way round slowly and gently working inwards until the cover pops off. Be gentle as its fairly delicate. Wash and push fit to reassemble.

Great tutorial ! I got my 10 year old DC21 cleaned up like new. I ordered both filters and put them in. I would never have figured the radix out on my own. The problem persists, however! The sound of a blockage comes as a whoosh "pop" noise if started with the canister on. With it off, the suction is good and the motor sounds great. I'm at my wits end- if there is a cat toy in there I can't find it...ever encountered this?
