Here we have a Rug doctor Machine which does not turn on. There are two things that commonly cause this, the power cord or the GFI plug. The plug is easy to replace, the cord is more difficult.
This kind of failure is pretty normal in both vacuums and shampooers alike. There's some other electrical issues up in the handle with switches that can cause it to not turn on as well. How do you know if it’s the gfi plug itself that needs replaced? Will it just not show any continuity?

Coudn't you have just shortened the original cord by a foot and re-used it?
