The big Kaluna! Sounds great to me but then you make everything sound great!

Thanks so much! It wasn't a struggle to get a good sound out of this pedal.
@charlesycokerАй бұрын
I have Kaluna high gain version and it is hands down the best overdrive pedal I have come across and tried a lot of them. I am a die hard gain from amp guy but sometimes need to run into a clean amp at a jam. The Kaluna is as close to the sound and FEEL of my Friedman Dirty Shirley's preamp section. Ran into a deluxe reverb it just feels and sounds right. Hit with a bit of mid boost for solos and it sings
@RulgertGhostalkerАй бұрын
I can think of a few low gain amps that could benefit.....turns it into a 2 channel as well.
@ShawnTubbsАй бұрын
Having a tube running at high voltage is a big part of not only the tone but the feel. Thanks for watching!

There is something about 'chugging' chords, and 'shredding' leads that feels so fun. I have absolutely no use for these sounds, I mean except for therapy!

That intro song! 🎯 Would this be a good replacement for the Hughes & Kettner Tube Factor running into Friedman Dirty Shirley Combo?
@ShawnTubbs19 күн бұрын
I'm familiar with the H&K Tube Factor but I've never personally played one. You are hearing the Kaluna V2 into a Friedman DS head.
@revelationunion19 күн бұрын
@ShawnTubbs Thanks Shawn, Since the Kaluna is a.Marshal sounding pedal and the Friedman DS is voiced like a JTM45, I think I'll go for the Crazy Tubes Hi Power! Your musicianship is amazing and a huge inspiration!!! Never stop!

Great sounding pedal... one wishes for a version in which you could have presets saved. Or, perhaps a footswitch to toggle between the 3 modes, and the gain knob controlled by an expression pedal...

As always, great playing. Can you tell how the Kaluna 2 compares to the Electron Brothers Brass Knuckle tube overdrive pedal you reviewed 5 months ago? Are they more similar than different? I realize you would be doing this from memory and not from a side-by-side A/B comparison.
@ShawnTubbsАй бұрын
The Kaluna V2 sounds a bit more modern and is capable of more gain. The Brass Knuckle is more vintage in nature. Both are incredible tube drive pedals.
@pranavphxАй бұрын
How would you compare the tone to the Jake E Lee , IR-J. The bite and compression sounded like the IR-J
@totallyunmemorableАй бұрын
I've built a few tube overdrives. And, of course, you can't get a good sound without the high voltage, unless you just like sludge. And while I'm no expert, I've never been able to get usable levels of distortion with just one tube. Two sounds great, but one, not so much. Makes me think there's an IC in there pushing the tube into distortion. I've never heard that work either. This sounds good - some would be happy with this. It's a bit hard and 'barky' sounding for me. I'd like to see what's going on inside.
