Also, I've noticed the books becoming a lot more compact, with a lot more writing in each day, and days rarely skipping each other. The first few books were centred around one to three months, or even a year, while the newer entries are based around just over a week or two.

IMO Wrecking ball was pretty disappointing. The books are getting repetitive, and we could have had a lot of storylines with a new house, but NOPE. Everything stays the same.

I know I’m 2 years late but yeah this book pissed me off cause I saw the ending coming a mile away. Would have been cool for things to go nicely for this family for once seeing as the past few books (especially Long Haul) have essentially revolved around the plotline of “Everything goes wrong”. Why can’t they move house and enjoy themselves instead of Kinney taking the easy way out and just having the house collapse resulting in the move not going ahead :(

I think the Gref and Rowley hug is Jeff Kinney showing that he's aware of Greg as a character and wanted some quick character development to turn people's mindsets about Greg around quick. I feel like in book 20, Kinney is going to drop a bomb and say that Greg was in solitary confinement and was given a journal to document his childhood to which he does the Wimpy kid books and in turn becomes famous. Plus I know pre-teens are his demographic, but at this point he can write in the fact that Greg is in high school and still make the same plot.
