Um actually they are, in fact, "Rats". It's a chimera of a rat and a bat. Combining the words together, with rat being the first half of course, gives us "Rat". This is because we are taking the "Ra" from "rat" and the "at" from "bat" using the character "a" as the connection of the two.

@@RobotnikPlngas the constellations show you spells! You just have to draw em out quickly after you press the spellcast button. They are a bunch to find in the game so I'd recommend copying them over onto paper as you make your way down

I think its largely because they started hiring libarts majors to write the story for games and after a while everyone in the industry forgot they were meant to make games and just started making cutscenes you have to interact with every now and then.
