@@jacsig I think he realized just how much she meant to him at the end, when it was a bit too late. He treated her really poorly throughout most of their marriage (her two autobiographies documented much of the disrespect), though she always showed nothing but genuine respect, concern and love for him during and after their marriage. Her love for him never wavered and despite her brave facade and easy laughter, I believe she is hurting tremendously. Her being blindsided by two women who should know better was inexcuseable!

@@birdsfan57 I think Eddie always loved Valerie too. He still had the Valerie tattoo on his arm in 2008 on the tour even tho he was supposedly already engaged to Janie! Lol! And I read both of her books too and love the story of how in 2007 while they were getting divorced he would call her hotel room to say goodnight to Wolfie and then when she got back on the phone he would tell her how beautiful she looked! Lol! And her boyfriend was right there! Lol! I think drugs & alcohol got the best of Eddie and led him to make some very poor choices that cost him his marriage. And he took Valerie for granted that's for sure. But I think he always loved her but was messed up on drugs during their marriage. I have seen other interviews during that time that weren't referred to in the books which made me think he loved her too. And look at some of the photos of them together back in the day where Eddie's arm was around Valerie but it was below her waist! Lol! Also I can tell you from having experienced it myself that when someone is dying of a terminal illness his/her world gets very small. There is no way Valerie would have been visiting Ed in the hospital when he was having surgery or when he died unless Eddie wanted her there.

Born in the 60's, grew up with One Day At A Time and Van Halen's music, I remember when they married, the struggles with Eddie's addictions, their careers, it is a relationship made up of all of that plus the love they shared. I think it is a testament to them that they remained friends, and they co-parented so well together. Personally, I would think it odd if Valerie wasn't saying the things she is about Eddie, and those shaming her, should be ashamed themselves!

I know exactly how she feels and I'd like to tell her that it takes a while to get through it. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about your mourning. My ex died last year too and we had been married for 20 years/divorced the past 9, the father of my 2 kids. He had an addiction problem and was impossible to live with. We had each moved on. But all the memories came flooding back and I was so sorry that he passed. My ex and I connected on a different plain and had gone through so much together - maybe I shouldn't have been surprised at how upset I was from his death (for several months). Just because we couldn't get along and stay married, doesn't make you immune to the loss. We can love more than one person, people. We love each person differently for their unique selves. Much of Valerie's young life was shaped by this relationship. Cut her a break please.

@Sara Mill No she didn't dump him. She divorced him because he was carrying coke while travelling with their 9 year old son. And he was using coke around Wolfie. And he wouldn't stop. As a mother, she could not allow her son to continue to be around someone who is using illegal drugs, even if it is his father. If you're a mother, you wouldn't allow that either. She had to divorce him, to get her son out of that situation.

I cannot believe this woman is 60 years YOUNG! Yes, I agree with the comments below about it not being appropriate to bring up Eddie's passing, but then again, Valerie is a cultural icon, as was Eddie, so in a way, how could they not bring it up? Perhaps it would have been more sensitive to bring up in a different kind of interview. I think when someone comes into your life, and has such impact, whether you stay married or not, there is a deep, deep connection. I have no doubt that he visits her, and their son from another realm.
