With this video, we will share a direct comparison between the Valeton GP 200 and the LINE 6 POD GO. First of all we will hear the units in action with a demo song, then we will compare the features and technical characteristics of the 2 units with a very detailed comparison chart, then we will ear more sounds, also comparing the 2 units with real tube amps checking out the frequency response, the dynamic range management, the note envelop, and the effects, and finally I will give you my 2 cents. So I hope you enjoy, and please subscribe and ring the bell, as it would really help me to make more videos like this!!!

DO NOT purchase a multi effects unit - before checking in on master Leo on his fine youtube channel . Mind you there are a lot of people making this type of content , but no one can touch Leo . Thank you so much for all your hard work Leo. You helped me with my choices not too long ago , since then i have been extremely happy with my purchase and thru that i have grown as a player and we sound better than EVER . Having GREAT sound , so many options , and the ability to organize it all so it makes sense , intuitively its no small feat. Ultimately i have embraced digital a long time ago , and now the time has come where its clear that i did make the smart choice. Its time to reap the benefits of this choice , and i thank Leo gratefully for making that so simple for me . Everyones needs are different , we all have our own set of ears , its like music , if we all went around whistling the same tune , it would be a pretty boring place to live . music and tone is subjective , what works for you is different for me . Its important to understand stuff like this and accept these facts as thinking its cut and dry and what is on your board is "the best" and everything else is "garbage" is a closed minded approach that will turn people off . I appreciate what Leo is doing and has done because he is a bit above that type of nonsense . On top of that as i always say , as player no matter what level , from the beginner "kid in his bedroom with the line 6" ( i have noted this response online many times and i think , what where they born steve vai?) to the guy who is recording his 20th solo guitar instrumental cd - it is NOT our gear which should DEFINE us , that should be the job of our MUSIC . Its easy to get caught up in a "gas" cycle , and utilize "stink think" such as what i mentioned - all gear is garbage except what is on my board right now or - if someone else plays thru something different they are noob . At the end of the day i would find it refreshing if people can consider things like - no one in the audience ever (CARED) left a gig because they notice the guitar player was not using a tube amp . YES tube amps sound great , no they are not always feasible . as we move forward and things like carbon footprint and 2030 , greta thronberg will be coming for your tubes . you can bank on that . being a guitar player should not be a "private part measuring contest" but ultimately there is a lot of this attitude floating around . lets try to keep ourselves grounded and stop judging the next guy for what he may play thru or NOT play thru . there is a right way to look at these devices and compare them fairly , and thats exactly what Leo does best , next to playing his guitars of course .

Hi Petey, thank you so much...these are such great compliments...I can't say thank you enough!!! Thank you also for sharing your findings...interesting points for sure!!! Very true comment. I'm a gigging multi fx user and I've tried all the big brands and models live, money no issue and nothing touches my first ever unit for sound quality/ tone. Not even subsequent models in the same band! That first FX unit, the Zoom G1!

Thanks Leo! I love your format! So well organized and helpful. Especially the time stamps so we can go back and forth. I have the Pod Go. These units are great and are so powerful. I still mostly gravitate to my real amps or more simple devices like my tech 21 fly rigs for live use. For me personally I just can't get the right sound and feel in a live setting without messing with these type of pedals too much for each preset. It's just me and my preference. I feel it takes my focus away from concentrating on playing. I still love messing with them at home when live performance isn't the priority!

For the best most informative demo / review / comparisons ... Leo is the man to see . Excellent work . Much appreciate all the work you do . So I bought 2 units ! Nu-X MG300 and Valeton GP200 . I personally can say the NU-X has the edge on amp tones and I prefer the GUI Graphics , plus the Different mics and their placement options . But both are amazing units . Molto Grazzie caro Leo . Effects were a little bit “sweeter,” to my ear, on the podGo. But both amp sounds were good. I only caught a minuscule increase in background noise with the plexi sound on the Valeton. Thank you for taking pains to thoroughly compare the units. Your videos are very useful as I explore my options for direct guitar sounds. Also, loving your songs.

I heard that too, but I think the pod go is darker, when i used to have one I couldnt get a sound out of it that i liked, partially as it was SO dark. I think thats why the gp sounds buzzier, the noise is more present

Thank you Leo, your presentation and comparison really helped me in deciding what guitar effect would suit me. In my heart, I chose a real amp,. In my brain I chose the Line 6 Pod GO and in my budget I chose the Valeton GP200. In the end, my choice fell to the Valeton GP200 where in comparison you did, the GP200 was close to the sound of the original amp. So, many thanks and warm greetings from Bali.

Again a very nice video. I personally like the Valeton better as it has a drum machine. Also in my opinion the Valeton does high gain better, that's why I ordered the Valeton and I am very happy so far. Take in notice that for love use and recording I use my Quad Cortex, the Valeton is in my living room for quick recording of ideas for later use and for rehearsing/playing without having to set up everything. Hi Leo, thanks for the video. I always appreciate the consistency in your product comparison methods. That said, I'd like correct you on one relatively important aspect of the POD Go. The block order is very easily editable and all blocks except the input and output can be positioned anywhere in the chain. Page 13 in the (English, Rev. D) manual contains instructions on how to do it.

Great job making this review, thanks. As to me - one advantage that the Valeton has surpasses those few advantages of the POD GO, namely XLR outputs. As the V-200 owner I’ll be missing the possibility of using two delays or two reverbs, but there is always the FX loop, after all. The only regret is that V-200 can’t send non-simulated signal to jack outs while sending simulated signal to XLRs. But when I recall the price of the unit I can stand that shortage.

Remarkably useful comparison! I am surprised to say I prefer the Valeton's tone. Its plexi had better harmonic simulation on the top end, and the chorus was superior. The Pod Go sounded consistently more compressed and the chorus was almost flanged.

I saw a highly respected KZbinr (John Nathan Cody) who didn't like the POD-Go much, but after its 2.0 Firmware a few weeks ago I believe, totally changed his opinion. I am looking at the Valeton. But might go with Headrush MX-5 or even the upgraded Podgo. Until then the cheap Boss GT-1 is good enough for me 😀. Wonderful demo. Just subscribed. Thanks

Great review as always Leo! I think when I heard your demo song, besides the fact that I always love your demo songs, it was nearly impossible to tell each of the modelers apart from the real deal amp. It all sounded great. Also, in the individual sounds section if I close my eyes I had a very difficult time telling one from the next. My only thought on a purchase is, is the manufacturer going to be around to support the device for a year or two as well as community support with downloadable patches, etc. Line 6 seems to have great community support with a fairly regular update cycle from the manufacturer. If Valeton can get community support and firmware and additional models and effects added as the product ages, I think the GP-200 can be a POD Go killer. I was able to find my POD Go on sale when I bought it last year and I paid $428 shipped to my door including tax. So, to me it was a no-brainer. Now if you could buy each unit for 50 to $75 apart in price it would be a tough decision. For me, I still feel more comfortable with the established product by Line 6. In the past, I bought an "off brand" modeler and the company discontinued it within a year and there was never any additional support or effects or models or anything else. That would be my only drawback for the GP-200, whether or not Valeton will support the unit for a year or more with updates or not. Third party IR's really make the POD Go come alive. I have all 128 Banks loaded with IR's with various mic positions and it makes the unit sound incredible. The stock cabinet models leave a lot to be desired in the POD Go. God bless and rock on 🎸👍😎

Very awesome player you are! I like the honesty in your review. Only a little advice, in my modest opinion, the most difficult thing to reproduce with a digital device are the distortion and gain. It would be interesting to hear the differences between the units in this case. However compliments and go on!

Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like the video!!! Thank you also for your suggestion! Let me just add the in my opinion it's even harder for the modellers to replicate the way an amp reacts to our touch, I mean the way the amp cleans up and break up according to how soft or hard you push the strings...thatìs what I try to test in my videos. Nevertheless for sure also distortion is hard to replicate Thank you!

@@LeoGibsonGtr you're 100% right, Leo! Certainly you're more experienced than me! But I swear, for me the most difficult thing (I play hard rock) was to find a decent distortion sound. I finally and happily got a GE 200 unit (with personalized IR), my previous pedal was a boss me-80 (very very bad DS)... It wasn't a criticism to your video (really neat and hi quality one!) only an idea that maybe could be useful for you in relation to the "metal guy" viewer. first of all.... KUDOS to you for putting in ALOT of work to make this comparison for US!!! THANK YOU.. One thing that is bothering me through out this shoot out... the POD GO was much more noisy/hissy especially during the Fender examples... and i think that would lead to sound quality degredation problems during recording and or layering multiple tracks in the studio... everything else was kind of a wash with, in my opinion, the Valeton sounding just a bit better overall... and just a bit closer to the actual amp tones... of course these sound differences would be negligible in a live situation... with all the other sounds and stage noise and DRUMS 🙄... these minute differences would never be noticed... thank you again for the comparisons... ive made up my mind... For a faster comparison you can just forward the time in the video timeline. The point was to showcase the full decay time. Its far more useful to err on the side of length, showcasing the full effect which can always be shortened by a single click in the timeline vs cutting it short which would be impossible to add something that was cut.

That is not correct, the POD Go offers a more flexible chain than the GP-200 since it has 4 blocks where you can choose any effect as long as there is prcessing power for it, in the GP-200 the blocks are fixed when it comes to what type of effect they may contain.
@Stefan-
@Stefan- 2 жыл бұрын
@JCW 308 I cant agree with you at all when it is clear that the chain in the GP-200 is completely fixed with exeption for the order and while you also can change the order of the effects on the PD Go you can also choose any effect in 4 of the blocks (as mentioned earlier) which you cant on the GP-200.
@Stefan-

@fanigallagher Жыл бұрын
I disagree with that. In pod go you can use 2 delay, or 2 reverb, or 2 drive pedal. Which in Gp200 can't. And pod go has snapshot also. It's like a switching system for you board like the helix. N you could free more block by "hacking" the patches, so you could have more pedals in it. So i think pod go has more flexibility than the gp200

Regarding effects loop, which is likely importantly to a large segment of users, stereo is fairly important, since a great deal of use cases are for ambience effects, and those need to be stereo. The pod go effects loop is stereo, and that should be the norm (although, I did have to buy a break-out cable for the pod go). Regarding the line-6 pod go' effects loop. The 1.3 firmware upgrade is buggy. I had to literally unplug the pod go for an extended period of time before the effects loop began to properly operate.

I have Pod GO and zoom G3X and in my opinion the reverb and phasing effects are more pleasant on zoom. I don't posses GP200 but reverb seems to be better than these on Pod Go as well. The sound response on zoom makes easy to play (maybe because of some little compression added). Pod Go is cutting the sound before it releases even without noise-gate activated what is a big drawback in my opinion. This is totally of topic but zoom's ZNR noise gate is superior to all I ever heard. Thank you Leo for this vid, like always it is excellent. Cheers! bye!

Thanks for the great review! One thing I notice you don't talk about is the distance between the foot switches, which becomes very important for live use. The Valeton GP switches are quite close together, which give it a smaller size but can lead to accidental switching mistakes. The Mooer GE250 has this problem, too, which is made worse because hitting two switches by accident can trigger the tuner (killing the sound) or even worse, trigger the looper, which can completely mess up a live performance.

@@LeoGibsonGtr Thanks for the reply! Ah yes. I remember you mentioned the foot switch distances there (6 cm vs 7 cm). For me, this is quite important. I ended up switching from the Mooer GE250 to the Moeer GE300 *Lite* because of the bigger switch distance. Interestingly, the Mooer GE300 also has narrow switches, so maybe manufacturers are now prioritizing the size of the box.
