The fact that they don't penalize you for destroying something and you get the exact amount of supplies back is awesome. They are doing this game right.

Not gonna lie, I've only played for about two days now, but I actually thought they penalized you for breaking something, and it was a relief to see they didn't because I accidentally placed down things several times. I agree they're doing this game right. I also agree with the people who say for being in early access, the game itself is already amazing.

Also, if your buildings/cart/stuff get destroyed, you still wont get penalized. Not sure about the item inside the cart though.

@@idunwannadie Yup, it's pretty nice. I don't know about a cart, to be honest, I've only really gotten to the Bronze stage, but as far as it seems, if mobs destroy a chest, it looks like every item inside is saved, so I'd have to guess it's the same for carts and what-not.

It's a textbook example of substance over style. The graphics aren't photorealistic but they're utilized in a way that conveys information well and still allows for good detail where it matters. The UI is clean, responsive and fairly intuitive overall. The visual design is simple but effective. It's got it where it counts.

Just a tip about building support. Beams actually don't provide support the way you think it should. Everything is tied to one building stability mechanic. You can build up to 5 building structures from a foundation. What that means is, when you place your first building pieces on the ground, whether its a floor or pillars, it cons blue instead of green, yellow or red. Blue indicates a building piece is in contact with the ground, thus making it a foundation piece. From those blue con building pieces, you can build up to 4 or 5 pieces further. Doesn't matter what the pieces are, but once you reach the 4 or 5 piece limit, the last piece will con red, meaning anything added to it will collapse. In other words, if you were to use 5 one meter pillars and stacked them on top of each other. The top or 5th piece will turn red and anything added on top of it in any direction will collapse. So building stability for tall structures is all about using the longest or rather tallest building pieces you have available for connecting to your foundation to your roof. The game will take the shortest route from foundation to top roof piece available. Therefor, if you wish to build tall buildings, it is best to use the tallest beams you have available as much as possible.

I can’t even begin to express my gratitude for making this video for us. I had a vision for how I wanted my build to be, but the lack of a flat roof in particular created a lot of trouble in the end. And I decided to destroy my creation and start from scratch. After finding your video I followed most of the steps while putting my own twist on things, I couldn’t be happier with the end result. After about 4 hours I’m finally finished, and I get to watch the sun rise while I sit in the grass and watch as the god rays bathe this masterpiece in all its glory. I got stuck on one part which was how you made the staircase to the chimney, but I made something of my own to make up for it. Thanks so much for the tutorial :)

A tip (someone probablhave thaty said it already): Smoke does gather under a sealed roof, but only to a certain extent. A building large enough/tall enough will only have a layer of smoke at the ceiling, leaving enough area for you to breathe and work. I've found around 2.5-3 wall's height is enough

Something to take note off: the horizontal beams that you can put on the floor will block your walking path so just connect the floor with the stairs to ensure a smooth entry 😉. Also, you can start with the 1m pole instead of the floor so that you can always have a sound ground floor structure. Absolutely love the fire pit in the middle of the structure, so cool.

Credits for this Long House, also for this video. I like to give you a suggestion for house building: Use the 1/2 wooden walls as a foundation-"frame" (imagine it like an actuak frame that you place on the ground) fill that "frame" with the wooden floors, it will stay stable and you don't have to worry to use pillars beneath the floor to make a solit and stable cunstruction. I also managed to build a similar long house with less effort, also with a similar chimney and the roof didn't colapse. My chimney is just 2 pieces long and my fire place inside is 2x4. Smoke still isn't an issue even if it's ab it smokey arround the fire place.

You do not need an opening at the top of the base for smoke to escape. As long as the roof is high enough the smoke will not reach the bottom flor. True to life, the smoke slowly seeps through the thatch which helps retain heat and allow the smoke to escape rapidly enough to not build up in the lower levels of the building. There are places where you can still find buried thatch used for roofs from over 1300 years ago and its still in tact because of the tar coating it from all the smoke it was exposed to.

I’m going to make this my Third base, right now, I haven’t got much to fill it up with, I’m going to see I can make it abit more “rounded”, but this is great inspiration! It great to think about when this game gets more developed, and more options for building and developing land appear, what we’ll be able to build.

followed your guide in vid Was a little lost sometimes but the power of youtube a simple rewind and rewatch sorted that A small tip the Overhangs if you use 45 degree roof and snap it to the initial 45 beamed roof you avoid having it poke in to the house and get the overhang effect you want

another thing to note, if you set up pillars at intervals of about 5 or 6, it can support it so long as it gets placed, it helps especially when doing roofing as that eats up wood.

I followed this build today, new player to the game, so for those that want to copy this, firstly watch all the video first as the channel creator pilgrimz project changes his build quite a few times, so dont follow and build along "live" like I did ...... secondly, almost all of the structural integrity is just not necessary, the game doesnt deal with real physics like this video builds for, it DOES HAVE structural integrity, but long story short, 4 blocks away from anything good, more is bad, do look into this, as I dont want to be responsible, but you do not need as much structural protection as this build describes, also, the chimney does not have to be so complicated, just put it on the side of your house instead and use logic to funnel it, or, put it where this build says and funnel it with walls instead of the method described. Having said this, I built whilst watching/pausing this video and my build is 85 percent the same and this channel did save me a ton of work planning it myself, so my advice is absolutely use this, it looks geat and realistic, just bear in mind that a lot of the structural stuff isnt needed, (I did it anywaybecause it looks good) Finally, I did NOT have the resources prepared, I started with nothing, it took me about 7 real life hours of cutting trees in the day, building, watching each step of the video, sleeping at night as a new player to the game, who had just beaten the first boss, just to give some context.

chimney seems to be offset by one space making the smoke pool more than needed. also beams seem to block smoke a lot so keep that in mind when making chimneys

If you use half-walls as foundational structure, it's far easier to place support, as you can snap it to the side of the already placed bits, instead of trying to attach to the bottom which you can't see. For most buildings the exterior perimeter alone is enough to hold everything up. I have a very large build where the underside of the entire floor is fully latticed in a grid of half walls, which adds a lot of structural integrity for those big builds. I was kinda biting my nails over whether you'd be able to finish the roof in terms of structural integrity. Also, the ground smoothing of the hoe is relative to your character elevation when you click it. So you can leverage where you stand to get ground to smooth up or down.
@kathrynck

PS: I like to use more thoroughly enclosed chimneys to control the smoke flow. But I really like your use of the angled corner roof pieces to make a smoke-exit steeple, very stylish. And awesome tip on the wind vs. deer. I had thought the wind direction was only useful for navigation at sea.

Add some texture to the walls with 2m planks placed at right angles to the walls at the intersections. Fitting ladders under the thatch really takes the flatness away from the underlying texture.

40:40 it seems like they changed the design of the 26-degree thatch roof since this video was released. The middle pillar of it is thicker than the corner piece. Makes it not look well together. I also noticed they changed some ways that roofs connect to beams because they weren't snapping to the side of the beams in the ceiling. Not sure why they changed that but oh well.
