FOOD: Apologies for accidentally cutting the bit about food. I suggest you take Serpent Stew, Turnip Stew and Sausages but just take the best food you have available to you :) Then when you get there kill those lox and upgrade to lox meat! :)

Lox pie, blood pudding and serpent stew is the best combination . If you don’t have one of these then fish wraps, sausages or turnip stew are the next best, in that order If you’re good in the swamps (silver sword and good armour) it’s probably easier getting sausages than serpent stew

i remember being in the swamp and running from like 10 different enemies and seeing the plains biome and thinking “oh that place should be safe!” and then i ran in and immediately ran away when i saw like three goblins and a deathsquito hit me for over half my health

Was mapping out the bounds of an island in my little karve and skirted a little close to the plains shore and a deathsquito came for me. The boat isn't big enough to swing your weapon without hitting the boat first and I died. Made a new one, went to get my stuff, found a kraken, started mining it, didn't know it sank... sitting on the other side of it without stamina and I'm getting wet. Died again. Make a third boat to retrieve both my corpses, successfully make it happen. Total time: 4.5 hours... Love this game but you die from the dumbest things most of the time.

i have similar experiences.. what about driving your boat on a piece of shallow water and getting stuck and then the leeches come for you and they attack boat and you and just at the moment your boat is finally turned and got loose, you die from the last leech hit............ the level of stress is so high in this game my cortisol level went up with 800%

I got stuck on a mountain after getting ambushed by cultists in a cave. I respawned at a hastily set up barebones camp and died trying to get down the mountain from the cold. Took me 3 hours to grab my stuff from the cave and work it closer and closer to the cave entrance(died about 30x) but at least I didn't have to start a new map! I had 600 days sunk into it already!

I like finding a very small plains biome (like random ones near the equator), build a bunch of workbenches to block enemy spawns and then just cultivate and plant flax/barley. Saves a lot of hassle.

I think the best advice for plains exploration is to set up a backup portal OUTSIDE the plains nearby. Usually there is a black forest, mountain, meadow, or swamp bounding the plains. Find a safe elevated place there, excavate a quick trench, and drop a portal.

Deathsquito Needle's also used for the "Porcupine" 1HB Weapon.. Takes 5 to initially craft it and a total of 17 to fully max it to Quality 4

Could expand out to all other biomes too. I don't create my own content so not sure how hard or easy this would be to edit but good luck with whatever you decide to do :)

Another thing you could mention is the bonemass power. It's very strong in the plains. You could even run into a camp and just sledgehammer everything with bonemass power + padded armor + fire resistance mead (nice for shamans and torch guys since bonemass doesn't reduce fire damage). xD You will want to keep an eye out for 2* fulings and kite/block them if you do this as they still hurt quite a bit, but everything else just tickles.

Besides mining huge amounts of stone, those giant rock pillars make awesome plains bases. Build ladders and platforms until you reach the top and then build yourself a house on top. You'll have a heck of a view. Fulings can't climb ladders and I've never been attacked by a deathsquito when I am up top of the pillar. Later build a dirt wall around it to have a protected plains garden. Installing a portal at ground level paired to one at the top saves a lot of ladder climbing.

Tip for all, don't be intimidated by deathskitos, personally I think wolves are a more intimidating enemy. As long as you move slow, keep eyes up and have your shield at the ready skitos shouldn't cause you an issue. Just be sure to clear them out the area with a bow before fighting anything else. Oh and don't bother parrying them, you just just block/counter real easy.

I personally prefer to wear root armor to explore the plains, due to the extra bonus on pierce resistance. Makes deathsquitos a lot less scary since they cause a lot less damage even when they attack you from behind. Also good against the javelin-throwing fulings.

I cannot stress this enough....Frost Arrows!!!! being able to slow fulling that are coming at you is pretty great. Another bit of advice for the timing of coming to the Plains. I would start getting stuff in the Plains before killing Moder but after you have all the Wolf Armor, Silver Shield, Frostner and the Draugr Fang. That way after killing Moder you can go right into Blackmetal and Linen production. The last thing you want is to kill Moder and trigger the possibility of Fulling Invasions while still in Silver gear. Additionally, beware the red skinned 2 star fulling. He is death. Silver shield just won’t block them fully. Even with a parry. Honestly the Blackmetal shield doesn’t fully block them if your skill isn’t high enough.

This IS so well done and laid out. I am just now approaching this place and glad you did a video on it. I saw another channel do a raise ground with 2 stones then pick axe center...use the agetar pole weapon to swing kill! They can't hit while in the cheap defense!

Another way to do it is have double stacks of chests, with two signs above the doublestack, and torches in between the doublestacks. That way you can see the signs better.

Something I never see anyone do. Spears are my favorite weapon for Plains. The M3 Spears throw makes killing deathsquitos easy. Just toss it as they fly in. Saves arrows and one shots. The throw will also stagger 1 star fulings so you can walk up, the Spears auto re-equips, and you can crit it.

I have the Drake helm at full upgrade level and fully upgraded troll clothing. I HATE the movement penalty of the armor higher than troll. I'm about to take on the plains with drake helm, troll armor and serpent shield (all fully upgraded) I have been to the plains several times but usually I was only baiting Lox out of the plains so I could kill them for their meat and hide :P

For anyone who reads this! I highly recommend you become very proficient with the bow. Deathquitoes will circle you after the first hit and then go in a straight line on the attack. You can use a Finewood Bow with wood arrows and they will die in one shot. Best case scenario is killing them before they notice you. Get hit by one with armor less than upgraded iron armor is most likely instant death but killing them can be very cheap and the needles are best in slot arrows. Good luck!

@@dyno8054 I was only wearing upgraded troll armor as I was prepping for my Bonemass battle and happened to find a tiny slice of meadow between Plains, Dark Forest and Mountain biomes to make my forward base. I was just running over to take a look at the Plains and also made the mistake of treating the Fulings like Greydwarfs. That was a one and done affair as well. Looks like I still have a lot of upgrading to do before I take on the Plains. Good luck with your adventure.

there is no need to type "ghost" all over again in the console. you can use arrow up to navigate to the previous command. Now why this only works once and not for tthe entire console history like in the terminal emulators on GNU/Linux is beyond me, tho.

If you're on the tiller, the DQs attack your boat, not you. If you stand, the last second bow trick is key, especially if you have a crap shield because you stumbled too close to plains trying to find another biome.

I built my main settlement in the Black Forest. It only took 7 hours and 130 deaths to get the house and wall built, almost immediately after defeating Eikthyr and getting the antler pick. I decided to upgrade it to a trelleborg style ringfort, with a ring of raised earth and stake fences, as well as a moat full of many sharpened stakes. So far so good. I decided to also build small huts right next to every burial chamber I came across, for quick respawn.

Once you get the black metal buckler a lot of the enemies become easier. You can perfect block a Lox and still get the stagger damage on them. I know, since I use that method to farm them for meat. Then the berseker can also be perfect blocked, but to do that you need to have at least lv2 (Mine is max level) on deathsiotes I just let them hit me and then attack them. Fulings again perfect block stab (Lv 4 Black Metal Sword) the shamens are a nightmare, unless you can get to them quickly.

Mosquitos - Block/Strike if melee. With bow Roll/Shoot. MUCH better to have like an iron bow as the charge speed is faster. Obviously if you see them coming they usually come straight in so you can just pop them with a bow, but if you get jumped the dodge or block is your friend.

When I first passed by a plains biome in game on a karve, my mate who was with me as a passenger got oneshotted by a deathsquito, and the last spawn point was way back. So Ihad to get her stuff and go back to pick her up again.

You can shield parry stuns Lox 2 attack modes which are easily timed, pull one of them with bow from far, let it come near and stand in front of it to shield parry then hit 3 times and parry stun it again,.2 stuns 6-7 hits and it dead, fast and save arrows. Starting to learn to shield parry the fulling berserker, have not see them much to do a 1v1 test, but the slow swings is easier to parry. Beware going out at night in plains, the fullings will spawned in group of 3-5 most of the time, and sometime 1-2 stars within them, which will be hard to fight off, especially 2 star spear thrower will 1 hit you and block stun you while losing lot of stamina. Fulling only spawn 1-3 in a group on day time which is manageable.

I hardly melee the berserkers, they have a long attack animation which makes kite/bow an easy task. I have found in melee as well you can step riiiiiiiiiight up to them slightly to the side and their big slams don't even touch you, worth knowing if in a pinch and out of stam. They do try to rotate to get you but you just run circles round them.

Tame loxes do breed (now?) - tamed three, kept them well-fed with cloudberries, now I got 11.

There's three things I like to have ready to use for when sh** hits the fan in the plains: Bonemass ability, frost arrows and medium heal potion. Even if you pull large groups of fulings you can pop Bonemass, always shoot the nearest one with a frost arrow (which will slow them down) and if things get critical pop the heal potion and you're fine.

Don't underestimate stam pots! I know I do lol With a full bar of Stan could have easily escaped many situations and out range agro of Fulings or been able to have those extra few blocks whole retreating for example. I always carry a couple now but still getting used to remembering I have them.

To me plains wasnt nearly as dangerous to settle my base in as swamp was. All you really have to take with you are supplies for a portal and all the lower level metal to make a fully upgraded forge and workbench + 10 tin for a cauldron and 10 iron for blast furnace. Everything else you can just portal back and forth. Fulings that you encounter when landing will be no more than 2 unless youre a chad and try to land at a fuling village for whatever reason. Lox arent aggressive so they wont bother you when you land and deathsquito’s... have atleast wolf armor level 2 and be topped off for food and they only do 30-40 damage if you dont block, i always carry my weapons with me including a shield and squito’s are really vulnerable if you parry and stagger them

Armor from Abomination works best for plains. Moskito doing no dmg when you have it. Just avoid goblin shaman because one shot can kill you. I was use Agitara and bow all my game and no problem with that gear on plains.

You dont need to block deathquitos when fighting them melee. You have alot longer range than it, so if you time it right, you can hit it mid air just before it stings you. This is very easy to do when they fly straight at you.

It seems a silly risk to take. Holding up your shield literally can't fail. The worst that can happen is you miss your hit and have to wait for them to attack again. Timing the hit is more fun if you have the gear/food to risk it though.

There is nothing silly about trying to be effective at a videogame. Unnecessary perhaps, but i guess that is up to the individual playstyle. They shouldnt be able to kill you in one hit anyways, so how big of a risk it is, is also debateable. But i get what you are saying, and i agree that is is not something to try out right away.

After 101 days I found two swamps and a plains and I still haven't discovered the whole island. I don't have much reference but I think my starterr island is the biggest possible so far I have 4 mountain biome on it.

Lox/Wolf cape are basically the same as each other and both provide frost resistance (which doesn't stack), so padded armor is essentially a full tier better.

For a safe barley and flax farm. Look for an island that’s on the plains coast. Then cultivate the ground there. If it’s far enough out, the deathsquitos and furlings can’t get to you. By using a lot of stone and the hoe you can always make your remote island farm bigger. Place a portal on the island so you can easily go back and forth in safety

Hubby and I landed on the plains today, and I should have known better :( I decided that we would go with nothing but troll armor, an atgeir (for me) and a bronze axe for him. He forgot his shield. I can't tell you how many times we died, and then died every freaking time we came out of the portal. I got so mad that I threw my headset at one of my monitors, and now that monitor needs to be replaced. Root chest piece turns deathsquitos into a joke. I went there with level 3 root chest, level 3 iron pants, level 3 deer cape and level 3 root mask. Deathsquito does like 12 damage to me.

Just try to do anything in the plains and they will come to you, ezpz.

Also, if you take 1-2 stacks of wooden arrows and use those to shoot deathsquitos, birds, and most nonplains stuff tbh (assuming you have maxed draugr fang), it will save you a lot of needle arrows.

@@Kysen No, I think it's an actual editing error. You went straight from shields to armor, skipping food. Then said "the three food I mentioned earlier". It's clearly sausage and the soups, but still a little jarring to have that skip in there.

Lox can also jump on your boat and crush you and the boat in a simple sweep, that is if you get too close to land. First hand experience here... Slightly annoying.
