Get it cleaned up and talk to an engine machiner, you will probably be surprised what they can do. That car and engine belong together

Having a 4mm rust flake is not 4mm of missing cast iron, when steel rusts it expands considerably (there must be a calculation to work it out) I would be pulling it apart and getting it hot tanked. Fit a T5 from a XF 6 cylinder, simple to fit and usually just a simple spacer plate for in front of the gearbox between the bellhousing to space the input shaft. Just call up Dellows or a gearbox swap specialist like that.

Get the block chemically cleaned and assessed, worst case scenario you may have to sleeve the bores. It’ll probably be fine.

Don’t over think it dude, I seriously doubt there’s anything wrong with that block.. that’s if you want to keep it OG. Easy rebuilder. I’ve played with much worse. Plus I still recon you should go for full rego on it.. I would for sure

+1 for this. The slant 6 core would be saveable. Strip it back and drop the block and crank into a machine shop. Hot tank will do wonders, 30tho on the bores and linish 10tho on the mains and big ends on the crank will be good as new. New set of pistons and rods, get another head with some port work. Will be sweet runner. Also I’d get a single rail 4speed to put behind it.

DJ, its a pacer man, dont give up on it! Try hard to keep it all! Drop the block and gearbox in an open top drum, fill it with diesel and let it soak for a month, you will be surprised! Worth saving mate!🇦🇺👍

The gearbox , just taking a guess, Borg Warner ??? could actually be the same box used in old holdens etc. Which would mean that you would only need the bell housing.

I put an F100 6 cyl and old 3 speed from an XY into a VE wayfarer ute. The column change linkages fitted straight on the falcon box ,( same B/W 3 speed)and I only changed one side engine mount on the cross member, cut it of and welded on a bit of box section.The Val drive shaft went straight back in. Only took a weekend to do.

My first thought was a modestly worked 225 with a refreshed three speed box like the dead one, but then I thought VG Pacer 245 with either Option 34 or Option 35 and the Pacer manual gearbox on the back of it. I feel it would be more cool with all Pacer parts than with engine and gearbox from something not Valiant.

Here is the thing with rust, it swells, that 4mm rust flake is likely to only be a mm or two of actual steel , this old engine will have plenty to spare. Go the original, and a rego rebuild.

Gearbox can be saved. Keep all the cases and source another box with good internals. Ford's used the same box. Reco kits are cheap. I hope you can save everything and keep it all matching. Good onya.

Valiant 3 speeds are dime a dozen and cheap as they’re normally ditched in favour of 4 or 5 speed. They’re not numbers matching to Pacers either. Maybe set the 225 aside and put in a 245 or 265. Touch base with Dave (Y.T channel Coopzcarz) he’s in NSW though.

Owned a VF Pacer in dark blue in 79 plus a mustard VG pacer and a VH factory 4 speed Pacer in 1980 man do I miss pacers .

VF Pacer sat a bit lower and came with 5 half inch rims . I had 7 inch alloys with TA tyres . My bother had one with 60 thou over 350 Holley and extractor split into twin 3 cylinder out one and 3 out the other man did it sound great . Sounded a bit like a hot V6 Capri 🤔. It sat low all round with 7 inch black rims . It put my other brother 307 HK to shame . RIP Scott . There is other tips to get these slants to fly.👍🏻💯🇦🇺⛽️.

a VF pacer gearbox should be pretty easy to find. if you can't find one. the ratio's were just a standard ratio. so i wouldn't be too worried about the gearbox. hopefully you can save the motor.

Soak the transmission in diesel and let it soak, Graham did the same with the tanks transmission. You could always try vinegar first to disolve the rust.

Definitely keep the 225. You might be able to do a complete rebuild in the 3 speed with all new internals, if not buy another 3 speed.

the engine will be saveable... but wont be cheap... scary dollars.. Depends what your plans are - bring it back to showroom condition or just driveable... The gearbox would be easy to find

The first Hemi came out in the VF. Code VFX. Infact 2 came out in VF Pacers station wagons. VFX 7 S 45 19 and VFX 7 S 45-20. Pity I can't post photo's.

That engine block can be resleaved, n with acid dipping it would be salvageable. Old pacers with matching number's are worth good money. Gearbox's are available n it's nicer to keep it period correct than fuck about with it. That said..it's your baby n u call the shots.

иметь кузов и двигатель на одних номерах - большой шик, помой родной двигатель кёрхером, если двигатель не дырявый то можно сделать бюджетное восстановление запчастями бывшими в употреблении, когда двигатель запустится будет понятно есть ли смысл вкладываться в новые запчасти на двигатель или вскроются скрытые изъяны и будет понятно что двигатель мёртв окончательно.

you have probably lost 1mm off the block, ie no sweat, nice hot acid bath, keep the car original if you can as long as you replace gbox with original type, no problems there crappy original cars are worth more than modded ones, hell knows why...
