I definitely agree with everything said in this review. My only gripe with this game is the pacing. Hell, I wouldn't even mind all the cutscenes if there were an AUTO-PLAY option! Having to press X every 5 seconds for up to a half hour at a time is a HUGE pain in the ass. If there were an auto-play option, you could start the cutscene and listen to the dialogue while going to the kitchen to get a drink or something. 9/10 as it stands right now. IF there were an auto-play feature, it'd be a 10/10

So I played the first one on steam and on a whim decided to preorder the special edition of 4. I'm so glad I did because this may be my favorite game of the year and I'm enjoying it so much! Sucks that it minor thing like the way dialog bubbles take just a little to long to let you continue and that the game keeps asking if I want to keep playing it every two minutes. But other then that its a masterful experience.

I have to admit. When i heard Valkyria Chronicles 4 was going to be released, i had tears in my eyes. When i actually played it, more tears... I really thought we'd never see another like Valkyria Chronicles 1 again after the "Valkyrian Chronicles; revolution"Urk! It makes me sick just to mention the name. I Loved the 1st, and i love the 4th. I even liked the 2nd one, though it was a PSP/PS Vita only, so it had limitations. This is My game of the year. "RDR2" and "COD; something" (whatever it is now, who can keep track) has nothing on it.

VC4 gave me so many nostalgia for the first one (which I completed with 100% achievements), it's such a good game and was worth the money! The only downside is that scouts are still op (not as much as the first one's scouts tho). And OH BOI THE MUSIC IS SO GOOD, the fact that VC1 music is used in VC4 as well was so goooooood!

I only played the first game to this series but it totally blew me away.....I loved how the squad was not just random soldiers but actually made you care about them and everyone had a friendship boost if they were paired right. Then feel bad when any soldiers are killed in action. Truly a gem of a series!

I barely made a dent in that game. Dragon Quest came out only a couple days before Spiderman, and now Valkyria Chronicles just dropped this week. I got 80% on Spiderman without beating the story, but only had a few hours on the other two due to work and class. I just wish that there were more hours in a day.

extra info for those interested. Try your hardest to A rank every mission when you do you receive weapons from HQ, only 1 or 2 of them so you do have to pick a single unit but these weapons are more powerful than the standard ones r&d gives you. Also for extra weapons take out any "ace units" you see. You'll know if it's an ace unit because they have an actual name rather than just class description. DO SKIRMISHES. Especially the second one when you unlock it, on average you'll get 5.4k exp and 8k dct(money). And you can repeat skirmishes infinitely so there's no reason not to. Pay attention to the "likes" section on character bios, if characters that like each other are nearby they have bonuses to potentials accuracy etc., but also when you do enough stuff around them you unlock character episodes of some of them. These are special missions that are usually short and only involve 2-3 characters. When completed you unlock their all important 4th character potential.

Agree 100% I think it improves in every way except the pacing. Pacing of the original was better. The interlude between chap 7-8 felt like a drag. It is necessary to know for the story, but it could've been a lot shorter.

The only problem I had with the first one was some events would trigger mid-mission leaving your team extremely vulnerable since you didn't know when or where the new threats would appear on the map. I remember the first kinda boss fight, I went in the enemy base to lower their flag and an enemy tank just spawned next to them. This happens in multiple missions.

not sure if the game is for me personally, but this is the best review delrith has done so far (at least that i've seen). it's clear that steps have been taking to improve the quality of his reviews, and the results show. comparing this to his last review (immortal: unchained), the difference was night and day. still rapid fire, showing examples of things he's talking about, letting us hear why he praises or dislikes the audio, better writing and seemingly more energy from del himself. i found this review a lot easier to watch than the last one, it is awesome to see delrith listening to constructive criticism and making an effort to improve his content. nice work dude.

Great review. Also to those curious the third game in the series was region locked to Japan. Just some info that i thought i should toss out there. There is an english patch for the third gane but to my knowledge it's not on the same level of translation as the Mother 3 fan translation that was professionally translated by the same guy who translated Dragon Ball Z.

Biggest problem i find it forces you to rush cause the score is tied to your turns and sometimes you can just sprint with a scout to the base and capture it in 2 turns where you can ignore 75%+ of the enemies.

I loved the original but i don't understand why this looks exactly the same like 9 years ago.

Because it's from Japan. I can't remember the last time a Japanese game tried to push graphics. Just look at FF14, Yakuza series, or as you said, Valkyria. The games look good, but they're not gonna require a monster PC (which I'm thankful for).

Mistermixmaster In Japan games go for a more stylistic approach to graphics most of the time and you can only improve graphics so much while keeping the theme intact. But when they want to look realistic they don’t pull any punches.

Really brilliant Rapid Review Angry Del. VC4 is a game that i really wanna pick up, there is too many games too play at the mo but i get this at some point for sure.

Since Joe is busy with his stuff (and I understand that), can we just have more and frequent RF reviews from Del? I won't mind at all if Del got 70% of the reviews and AJ can have the other 30% reviewing major titles of course.

Someone please help me with a choice: Octopath Traveler, Valkyria Chronicles 4, or Dragon Quest XI? What would you choose? I only have time for one. And yes I’m aware that Valkyria is more of a strategy game than a traditional RPG.
