other paint companies: oh man here's a cool new idea called a "wet palette" you can buy from us at an outrageous price no you can't buy these sheets of paper anywhere else vallejo: yeah so here's how to make a wet palette with stuff from your home

also, the fact that they even promote a wet palette which delays the usage time of paints ergo increasing your paint's shelf life and in turn causing you to buy less of them which in turn is non-profitable to Vallejo but to the consumer

Try Distilled water. It has all the impurities of tap water removed.

For those watching this in the US, you can find this at the grocery store as "parchment paper".

You have to be careful about the parchment paper you select. If it's treated with silicone as a non-stick product, it might not be porous. I had some with that very problem. I read in one of the forums, maybe Planet Figure, that in that case, you can boil the paper to make it more porous, but that's more effort than I chose to apply. I have been using brown packaging paper in my palette, and it works fine for me.

WOW ! Thank you very much for teaching me how to use Vallejo colors properly. I was using them totally wrong. Mixing them in small pots (packaging from the pills) and adding water drops to keep them liquid. Oh I wasted so much color .... I will definitely use this method now! Thanks again!

Just remember. If your paint shrinks when you pull it over the wet pallete, you have too much water.
@sabatheus5 жыл бұрын
Add a small amount of hydrogen peroxide to the water (preferably distilled), to prevent the water from getting moldy or smelly.

Nice and easy to make one. But sometimes after a while the baking paper (if it is not good quality) start to peel and get some flakes into our colour. So we must buy the best quality baking paper we can find or try some brands to see if this happens quickly.. Or to buy the special papers for wet palettes! Any suggestions?

Great tutorial. The thing is, in all my Vallejo Model and Model Air paints the pigment separates from the medium so fast, that after few minutes all blends and base colours need mixing up which ruins whole point of having blended paints on wet pallette.
@mantismodels12076 жыл бұрын
If Your paint is seperating then Your palette is too wet. You want it damp but not wet. The point is to keep the paint moist enough as to not dry out.

Thank you, I have been researching all night how to properly thing my paints. As I kept getting separation on my wet pallete. Driving me bonkers!

I thought I had parchment paper but it turns out I had wax paper. It doesn't work with wax paper lmao as the wax seems to repel the moisture. I'll try again with parchment.

...I'm going to be using tube acrylics - I'm used to oils - I'll need to be able to keep them 'wet' for a relatively long time as I blend, shade & highlight the colors (as I did with oils) - what kind of 'retarder' should I use??? With oils my problem was the exact opposite - I wanted them to dry 'quickly' - not in a few weeks or months - depending on the color (reds & blues were the worst of the lot) I used 'Dorland's Wax Mediumas the drying and flattening agent - Have a whole container I bought over 30 years ago that is still good and wouldda lasted me until I died (I'm now 70) - haven't picked up a brush ' in anger' sine 1986...

Do I need to thin model color if I put it on a wet pallet?
@vallejocolors Жыл бұрын
Hello Mason! Yes, you must thin your Model Color paint if needed. The wet palette only gives you the advantage of making your paint stay fresh for more time than usual but it will never change paint consistency :)

@@vallejocolors Okay cool, what would be a good paint to water ratio? Also does the clear orange color dry opaque or transparent?

Hi Mark, It's a simple tupperware. I think you can get this in you nearest local store. It's not necessary you purchase the same tupperware.

I thought baking papers were water proof ? So just use PC paper . If anyone in the UK can tell me what they use please say . Thanks . John .
@AkelisRain6 жыл бұрын
It is Parchment Paper.
@tonyja6615 жыл бұрын
Backing paper is lightly coated in wax, it is semi water resistant, but not water proof. This works by letting moisture evaporate through the paper, not soaking the whole thing in water. If you leave it on the sponge for a few weeks, it will slowly absorb water and fall apart as normal paper does.
