The Capital and Metro lines have had many sketchy characters for years, so I can definitely imagine them migrating over to the Valley Line. I'd exercise quite a bit of caution when using transit at night.

Those are the first elevated stations on Edmonton's LRT network. I agree, they do look nice!

Thanks for bringing the special video to life to celebrate the full year of the Valley Line. Currently I am at Hollyrood, which is a station I decided to visit to celebrate the full year of the Valley Line. Cheers to the next year, where the hyndai rotem cars eventually join the great fleet.

I hope you had fun at Holyrood Station today, it sounds very cool that you went out and explored the system on it's first anniversary. Also, I'm glad you enjoyed this special video of mine and I wanted to thank you so much for the video request!

quick question: for the destination sigh at 10:33, what does it read? it looks slightly different to "Mill Woods" and the "102" st. stops.
@TransitEmperor477415 күн бұрын
That is a good question.. it doesn't look like the camera picked it up that well. I imagine it's a variation of something that's often used (e.g. Mill Woods Stop). I reckon I'll have to monitor these trains a bit more in order to understand their signs better.

Unfortunately those automatic doors at stations didn’t last and people vandalized them like heck.
@TransitEmperor47744 күн бұрын
It's true. I don't remember them lasting more than a few months which is a shame. A lot of people could have used the heated shelters with the doors but I guess that isn't happening now.

I don't ride the Valley Line often, but it seems relatively peaceful and clean during the midday hours. Probably gets a little sketchy after dark but I normally don't ride at those times for those kinds of reasons. One of my pet peeves is crowded buses and trains so you won't find me in that kind of environment without a special reason.
@EJW200313 күн бұрын
What times were these taken? Seems so empty :( Anyone have experience with the valley line during peak hours?
@TransitEmperor477412 күн бұрын
Most of these recordings were made in the off peak times where I could actually get a seat on the train. I usually don't go riding or filming when it's crowded. Some of the recordings near the end were made sometime between 11AM and 2:30PM which is what I prefer for the reasons listed above.

Nice! What's the ridership?
@TransitEmperor477415 күн бұрын
Ridership in September 2024 was reported at about 279,000, an increase from 138,000 when the line first started. Ever since the line opened last year, it has served over 2.25 million riders!

@TransitEmperor4774 that's incredible! Here in Tel Aviv our first light rail opened about a year ago as well, we're currently seeing about 100,000 daily riders but this is expected to increase to 234,000 in a few years
@TransitEmperor477415 күн бұрын
@@ErelH Well, when you design a train system the right way (LRT, MRT, Subways, etc), it can definitely attract a lot of customers. Edmonton pioneered North American light rail when we started operations on the Capital Line in 1978.
